Google PageRank update: NewTorrents = PR6
Google is performing one of its PageRank updates right now – this means that every website is re-ranked with new PageRank value. PageRank is quite a complicated system rewarding sites by their popularity and amount of links to them with points from 1 to 10, 10 is the best value. Google updates these values just a few times a year and most sites don’t notice any change, but I checked the new values for NewTorrents.info and I’m happy to say it was updated from PR5 to PR6 (nice tool to check PageRank of your website). Making a PR5 website isn’t that complicated, it takes few months of work, but getting on PR6 is quite a challenge for all webmasters. This puts NewTorrents beside such giants as ThePirateBay, Mininova or TorrentSpy, which are all marked as PR6.
The funny thing about PageRank is it may display different value to different people. This is caused by circa 70 datacentres used by Google, which have to be synchronised first to return the same values. This takes few days or weeks, so if you have Google toolbar installed, it may show you both PR5 or PR6 for NewTorrents. I’m really happy for this increasement (although it already was PR6 for some time and then dropped back to PR5) – NewTorrents.info reached about 100 000 unique visitors everyday in latest weeks and I hope this can still increase a bit. These values were reached by some SEO optimization I’ve done recently and also by faster uploads of new releases. The site you recommended in your post to check the pagerank crawled its way up from PR3 to PR4 despite having a strong, quality and Natural backlink base. My another crappy new website made PR 5 in this update with mere 20 backlinks.. what an update I’d say….
What about imdb.com? I go there quite often :p

I’m working on a hobby site and don’t know much about this pagerank stuff, or the other seo/backlink stuff mentioned but know it’s cool to have, any tips on doing good stuff like that to get pageranked, help a brother out, it would be appreciated.

When a PR update happens, it doesn’t happen all at once – Google has many ‘datacenters’, and your new PR will ‘percolate’ between those datacentres over the next few days to a week.
