Google Maps Superhack: Get Super Zoom
One Australian blogger found an interesting way how to get an extra feature in popular Google Maps. This service offers also satelite picture of almost whole world, which can be zoomed very close to the Earth. The thing is, there are pictures which offer even more details, but you must do this little trick to see them.
Select a location and switch to satellite view. Zoom in as far as you can, and click ‘link to this page’ at the top right. Now replace the ‘z’ parameter in the URL with a higher value, e.g. 20, 22, or 23, and wait. Some locations will now show more detailed imagery.
You can see a big difference of this Super Zoom hack on these two pictures: they are both from Google Maps, taking a detail view of Googleplex in Mountain View, California. I am wondering if you could really see someone swimming in this pool when they update it next time :).

Next time the satellite takes a pic of the google head quarters, they should have all the staff in the parking lot waving up at the sky

that photo is amazing quality, you can even see one of the guys looking up at the sky.
HEhe i agree with Lee.. That would be cool
It’s actually the same level of detail that you can get with Google Earth. Certain spots in Africa like this one have super-high detail for some reason too. I would guess that they let the Google maps slider get to “only” zoom level 19 because so few areas have detail at 20+.
Wow, I hope that google does NOT fix this bug/feature !
News has spread across the internet over the last day or two of a “hack” that allows you much more zooming on Google Maps.
Unfortunately for all the people who’ve wasted hours scanning the earth, this is really nothing new. There are no methods for seeing higher resolution images of your favourite area than you can see today in Google Maps and Google Earth.
The confusion has developed from the recent Australia flyover and the far-from recent Africa flyover project. The result of both projects was images of a much higher resolution than elsewhere in the world - meaning there’s an extra zoom level or two in these areas and these areas only1.
A lot of folk have been suggesting that we feature these “new” sights, and even though we’ve highlighted a few before I thought I’d have another look…
The 500 different Megaflyover photographs included in Google Maps and Earth were selected by Mike Fay from his library of almost 92,000 images, taken from a small plane flying at low altitude.

Wow! I wonder if I can see my X -wife in her mansion in Sarasota FL? This is very cool for an old geographer like me!
“geographer” he says, i hear “stalking”
not to state the obvious fact that just about every male pigout there is thinking this..
are there high detail maps of any beaches or other places where any adult female’s like to sunbathe topless? :p
amsterdam at the dam u can go from z=19 to z=20, not that much different but it can
Now if they would turn my location into something other than a green and brown blob, I’d be happy.
