Google launches ad-supported video

Web publishers that participate in Google Inc.’s AdSense ad distribution network will now be able to make money by offering ad-supported video clips from Google’s YouTube video sharing site. For advertisers, the program opens their video-based ads for distribution across the AdSense network, instead of being limited to the YouTube site. Meanwhile, video producers get a chance to generate revenue from their clips. The video clips will be delivered within “a customized, embedded player that’s ad supported,” Google announced on Tuesday.

Not all YouTube videos are fodder for the program. Google is working with specific video producers that have agreed to participate, including TV Guide Broadband, Expert Village and Ford Models, the company said. Google will deliver ads that are related to both the content of the clip and of the Web site. Ads will appear as banners on top of the video window, as well as in text format on the bottom of the clip. Google will share revenue from the ads with the video owners and with the site publishers. The ads are available now in the U.S. for English-language Web sites. By eMarketer’s count, video ad spending will account for 3.5% of the $21.7 billion projected to be spent on online ads this year, up from 2.4% of online ad spending last year. Ads are simply everywhere these days…

That’s exactly what people need to improve their YouTube experience… More SPAM. Great move! Let’s hope AdBlock Plus will stop all this unwanted content.

I dont think adblock will be able to remove them. Because they say the ads are embedded in the video.

@GaMeR: You were ironic, right? ;) Those redirecting ads are really irritating. :( I’m sure Adblock might stop that, by I haven’t got around to install that yet. :)

You think many ppl will enjoy watching a 30sec commercial just to be able to watch a 9sec clip about some skateboarder who rails his nuts?

I think it’s a dumb move…The reason YouTube is so popular has to do with the no embeded ads…

But I’m sure someone will devise a way around it…And YouTube isn’t to quick at plugging holes.

Jesus, ads are getting more and more common.

Luckily there are those willing to program ways to get around them. (maybe not for google video but for other things…)

Starting to hate YouTube, the quality of vids is shocking, wish they would make a higher quality version.

As it said in the post, not all videos will have ads:
“Not all YouTube videos are fodder for the program”.

This whole YouTube is a copyright holders worst nightmare, the damn thing should be declared illegal and shut down already.

All it does is provide a forum for stolen workz.

well, well, well and they wonder why we all end up turning to the “illegal” sites. I feel sorry for the people who have small amounts of downloads, In australia some people pay AU$30 a month and get less than a gig download so like #7 Jeunas said are these people going to waste 30s worth of download for a 9s video.
