Google improves Chrome, new faster beta

Google has begun work on one much-requested feature of its Chrome browser, the ability to detect when a Web page offers a subscription service through RSS or Atom technology. Google programmer Finnur Thorarinsson formally marked the RSS support issue as “started” on Wednesday, though the feature is disabled for now. “The first part of this has been implemented and checked in,” Thorarinsson said, referring to the part that discovers when RSS feeds are available on a Web site. The feature is disabled for now, though, because the second part, which will produce a page that lets people actually subscribe to the feed, isn’t yet available, he said in his comment about Chrome’s RSS support. When Chrome debuted in September, many often basic features available in rival browsers were missing. Google has been working feverishly to add them, though. A total of 250 people flagged RSS support as being an issue of interest, second only to the Chrome extensions, which 725 people flagged.

Google is working on extensions, too, which will let people customize the browser with features such as ad blocking. Extensions are a popular selling point with Firefox, the second most popular browser after Microsoft’s Internet Explorer. The new Chrome beta is designated 2.0.169.1. “The best thing about this new beta is speed — it’s 25% faster on our V8 benchmark and 35% faster on the Sunspider benchmark than the current stable channel version and almost twice as fast when compared to our original beta version,” says Google Chrome product manager Brian Rakowski in a blog post.

Speed is only one element of internet browser.
Add-on also plays a big role.
There are still many things for Chrome to improve.

Chrome is great, it's way faster then the other browsers and I can't wait until extensions is added, which is the reason why i havn't changed from FF.

Remember: Google is after every information they can geht about you. If you don't trust Microsoft, you as sure as hell shouldn't trust Google. Use their browser and give them every info they need about you.

    1. Adblock for Chrome means $0 in Google income (that's how they make 95% of their money).

    2. Spying is part of Google's core philosophy. Search and Privacy are diametrically opposed to each other – Search is the opposite of Privacy.

Well, I'm with everyone else that the add-ons have really made the difference in Firefox and I see that ABP seems to be the most common one.

However when you try the acid tests the latest Chrome actually does the best job on them beating firefox, which I though was pretty surprising.

The most common complaint is there is no adblock for chrome, actually there is you just don't know about it, it's called AdMuncher

  31. the bad thing
    March 21st, 2009 | 19:54

If you have $30 to waste, AdMuncher is great.

It doesn't work with my AdBlock filters.
    It is not open source.
    It only works on windows.
    It doesn't do element hiding.

And worst of all (again) it isn't free.

Chrome is a pretty decent browser, but I'm still using Firefox, sure Chrome may be faster but its not that big a deal as web pages load up almost instantly on Firefox for me, its a mere technicality. The add ons on Firefox are great, plus its open source and generally this means there is better "customer support" out there, than you would get from large corporations such as google or ms.
