When it comes to google I will have to say yes. I would let them store my personal files on their drives. In that case they would be protected from sudden harddrive failure and viruses. Google are so big and so serious that when they say it's of critical importance that the files are protected they I bet they will be.

So what have higher odds?
1. My hardrive crashing.
2. A hacker accessing my harddrive and copies my files.
3. A hacker accessing Googles hard drives.

I would say 1 and 2...

Such thing as gdrive already exists for a few years. you can find setup here http://www.viksoe.dk/code/gmail.htm

On the topic of XDRIVE, I once stored a personal movie on the site. i had to delete it from my desktop at the request of my then girlfriend. i figured i could rename it and hide it somewhere on my pc, but the thought of her finding it and killing me was unsettling. so i created a free account, and threw it on xdrive, where I also started storing my installs and drivers for when i reformat my pc. I went back a while later-- and movie was gone-- BUT all the other files were still there!!!! unfreakin beleivable...

Montreal case first test of new anti-piracy law
Updated Tue. Nov. 27 2007 9:56 PM ET

CTV.ca News Staff

The first charges ever laid under Canada's new anti-piracy law have been filed in Montreal, CTV News has learned.

The city is known among police and Hollywood studios as a hotbed of film piracy, where movie premieres are routinely recorded using digital camcorders and later sold on the black market or shared on the Internet.

At Guzzo Cinemas in the east-end of the city, management only keeps a single copy of each film they screen. During a recent premiere of "Dan in Real Life," police arrested an audience member allegedly recording the movie.

One of the theatre's owners, Vince Guzzo, claimed the suspect was caught with a camcorder in plain sight.

"Yeah, he just put it on the floor and had a tripod, and the neck would lift up long enough to be over the seats," Guzzo said in amazement.

The suspect, 23-year-old Louis-Rene Hache, would not speak to CTV News.

Police allege he was copying the film without permission, and prosecutor Maryse Trudel claims he intended to sell it.

This past year, Hollywood studios threatened to delay film premieres in Canada because of perceived piracy issues, especially in Montreal and Calgary.

Ottawa responded with legislation that made the actual act of recording a film in a theatre illegal, whereas prior to the new law it was only illegal to copy a film for commercial use.

Under the new law, anyone convicted of pirating a movie for sale or rental could be sentenced up to five years in prison.

Douglas Frith, of the Canadian Motion Pictures Distributors Association, applauded the first use of the law.

"It's a big step, especially in a market like Montreal where there's so much piracy going on," he said.

Hollywood's own piracy investigators were sent to Guzzo Cinemas, considered to be one of the most pirated multiplexes in North America.

They used high-tech tools to scour the theatre for any camcorders.

"It's almost like it can actually detect the noise that camcorder makes," said Guzzo. "Even though you and I can't hear it."

Hollywood studios say they are not aware of a single case of film piracy inside a Montreal theatre since Hache was arrested. But none of the charges against him have been proven in court
iKNOW this is off topic but i thought it needed to be posted somewhere an i dont know rlslog e mail addy to have them do an offical post

I personally think this is a good idea.

I have lost 20gb worth of photos and stuff in the past.
while I now have a 2tb back up haddrive... all it takes is a housefire to loose it all.

sure I am not going to put any "questionable" content on gdrive, like movies, or personal documents...
but things like photos... I dont really give a crap if 'someone' wants to look at them. those people really must have no life looking at photos from partys of a bunch of people who they dont know.

I will be taking the 'school locker' approach to this

#1, noob comments get flamed the most. ever heard of file encryption? and since this is your first time using this site as well as rapidshare, you should realize that rapidshare has limitations, big limitations, and to remove them costs money. Consider gdrive a better alternative thats free.
