GFX Competition Results!
Choosing a winner to this competition was EXTREMELY difficult (which is the reason for the delay), and I’m not just saying that. I got almost 400 entries to this competition, and I narrowed that down to the absolute best and most fitting (find link to where you can see these below).

In the end, I went with the above banner for the following reasons: It was simple, yet effective and stood out among the other entries as well as in the forum environment. When viewed in action, it makes the forums look like no other. I want to congratulate Manuel on winning one year of Premium Rapidshare. To the rest of you, Thank you so much for entering this competition, it was a lot of fun. Some of the other entries were so great that I’m very likely to put them on the forums at some point perhaps as “weekly banners”.

I like it. I will say that if you want that banner to work a bit better, adjust the bluish greens on the forum.
And as well, guys. It was a banner contest. All this means is the forum may have to be adjusted here and there to fit with the banner. That’s how it works, sometimes.

1980 power ! rainbow style : ( can’t beleive they choose this one. There’s a lot of good ones in the top ten, this is not the best one for sure lets vote for fun. BAD CHOICE !!!

Sorry, but that logo really isn’t a good choice. You can’t just read what it says you have to look closely which is a bad sign. Actually I don’t mind the rainbow effect but the text just doesn’t work.
excellent choice, nice to see somrthing different with a bit of imagination gone into it, rather than the same old “photoshop tutorial” type designs.
as mentioned above, the logo doesnt really match the colour scheme of the forum, but that only makes it stand out more.. which is the purpose of a banner. Unique, Stands Out, Simple and Easy On The Eyes. Congratulations Manuel, excellent work.

Hmmmm, the comments are full of of so many cheery responses thesedays. The staff must float around basking in all the gratitude they receive for their efforts.
Bum liking aside, the choosen logo works best if you have a dark theme set on Firefox. I don’t, most other people probably don’t but hey at least it looks nice on ReeGed’s browser.

Having just perused some of the comp entries I noticed that the forums have a much nicer and more modern looking favicon than here. Any chance of duping it over to the main site ???

I don’t like it, It’s way too busy looking and annoys me. If I saw that logo somewhere else I wouldn’t want to look at it more than once and I would probably leave the site.

I think you should do a public vote to see what us the visitors like. You can keep the winner you picked, but it would be interesting to see what the public would have picked.

It is an AWFUL choice indeed. I can see why ReeGeed chose this one, though. He’s trying to duplicate the feedback Rlslog got from the results of their previous contest, when they chose to go with the “most simple, yet effective” entry. The winning entry from the birthday contest was, hands down, “simple, but the best.” This one? It SUCKS! The quality of the graphic isn’t even as smooth as it’s supposed to be (come on, it’s a logo for a forum. How many forum logos/banners do you see that are pixelated?). Just look at the box of the letter “O.” The quality is baaad.
Having a unique forum “look” is great…but TRYING to have a unique forum banner is just sad. Never try. Just pick the best out of all the entries, and be proud of yourself.
I agree with the majority on this one. I never visit the forums, but if I did, that logo would be one hell of an eyesore.

The letters being all off center is annoying, it looks like a jumbled mess.
By a wide margin the most lame, so it’s no wonder it’s the one chosen. In a word, hideous.

MEH is all i got to say. I would have went with the second one out of the four.
I cant understand what is so unique about this banner, except it’s the worst you shown this far… Neither can I understand how you can call other banners “photoshop tutorial” types; this is ridiculous. Many other banners are imaginative and unique and fits a hell of a lot more the dark theme of the forums.
Well I have one positive mention: very good choice for display color calibration!!!
I think its awesome, contrast is a good thing. Might have to touch up the G to make it more G like though.

There is no other way to describe this banner. Other banners looked great (with the black color scheme), but this one is too colorfull and chaotic. It has a certain retro aspect to it, but this is a site about technology for christ sake!

ima graphic designer, so i have to say youre pretty stupid for picking such a horrible “graphic” seeing as how its just a font (one of the most unpopular ones) with different colors.
Typography is not that good.

Thanks for the support for my banner (exept from rlslog staff, joke). Im a graphic designer too and im a really sad right now from the result, only 5% of the people who likes your website likes your final choice. I have nothing personnal against Manuel, idk is graphic background…but you should at least have choose another that suit more your theme, you had some great banners. Youshould choose with more objectivity and less personnals opinions next time. I think it’s my last participation on your competitions, it’s not taken seriously enough. But i will be on your site for a long time, great job on the releases

And I have to agree with #53 – I’m no Photoshop pro, but I reckon I could knock this one up in under a day! It’s lame, low quality, looks unprofessional and doesn’t suit the dark forum theme. What on earth were you thinking?

99% of you guys never go to the damn boring lame azz forum anyways. Besides, the only descent forum is forumw.org because they specialize in posting rs links. rlslog + forumW excellent combination.

This is coming from an artist. There were some real works of art in the competition, but you sure picked the most ‘Swedish’ one. The “winner” would be a fitting choice IF the site layout was a bit more colorful otherwise. Now it only seems out of place. In some cases, a dark monochromic site layout and then a few colorful bits help in contrast and bring the layout alive, but that doesn’t work with a simple banner.

I think the winning banner looks fine – but not for this site. A different color scheme (dark – like suggested in the entry rules) and this banner would definitely look a lot better.
Anyways – I’m happy to of made the top choices. I wish I would have taken more time but there were far superior choices in the top entries anyways.
It has to be said that the new logo is an order of magnitude worse that the old one.

No hard feelings but I feel there were much better logos than this.If so to speak,any 3D logo would have been a first consideration let alone the color scheme.In future let the public decide.

The comp was a fine idea.. The thing is that the winner was kind of a “SH1T” for a lot of ppl..designers-participants an not.. Anyway not the worst design..neither the best..
BUT..When someone found its the same as ELSPA logo… well.

That logo is not bad, but it definitly doesn’t fit with the theme.

It was 6 am, couldn’t sleep, turned on my iPod and – New Email from ReeGed!
The new logo isn’t as bad as people have complained about. It’s far more contemporary than the previous, which was a relic from the earlier days of the internet. However, it does invoke the thought of those rainbow stickers you see now and again on the bumpers of peoples’ cars (rainbow warrior coalition).

Complete rip-off, s and l are placed in exactly the same position as on that ELSPA logo, not mentioningthe overral design (squares, rainbow and sh!t), changed font, created gaps between the squares, added gradient instead of solid colors.

Besides that – bad color choice, the teal just ruins it.

Ehhh.. That’s not a logo. Manuel used just a font to write it. Maybe he changed the kerning a bit (the space between letters) but otherwise there’s zero work and imagination there.
HE JUST TYPED RLSLOG using the font and then put a gradient fill on it. Wow. Some DESIGN that.. Hahah.

I think what was intended was to introduce new color to the banner. The scheme was off blue, and various shades of white to black. What was required to make this stand out was a complementary color for the ‘off blue’ to be used. (you use a color wheel)Or…change the whole page… This ‘Iconic/Ironic’ banner breaks every rule of title display and merely comes off as being an eyesore in its intended use. The concept was good but doesn’t belong where it is. I saw a lot of really great entries in the comments and forums…? But, the decision has been made, it announces the originator(Releaselog), and the place(Forums). Live with it!
