As I said, my opinion is based on a tv-serie and youtube… I`m convinced now that the marines are well trained and diciplined. But what about morale? Morale comes if the soldier/marine belives in what he/she is doing. The reason why im questioning this is because you dont have to be strategic genius to see that the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq are not going too well. And its not ideal to loose those wars

There is no comparision in discipline within our Armed Forces. With the Marine Corps at the top of the list. Marine Corps Discipline has lead us to winning all of our battles we have ever been challeneged with. Even in the civilian sector you have those that will take credit for your work, or those you think are incompetent. But needless to say you make it work. Same in the Marine Corps, but that discipline is what sets it apart for everyone else. Regardless of what we think, we will get the mission done.

Awesome show.. not too sure about the realism, but certainly highlights some of the inadequacies of the command structure of the US armed forces, and the resultant effects on the guys under their command.

Please let there be a series 2!

@suntzu – These aren’t soldiers, they’re Marines. (Army has soldiers.) On the discipline issue we were trained to be a little crazy, even as a “POG” so can’t imagine what the grunts go through.

You can’t be completely sane to do some of the things Marines are asked to do. As far as discipline, it’s actually a lot better than you think, and if you watch the show closely you’ll see the easiest way to piss off the upper ranks or officers is to break discipline. You can complain all you want to your peers and your immediate command just do what you’re told and don’t jump command or break discipline.

It’s also what made the incident with the Corps Man (Navy Doctor) so funny when a few episodes back he told the Marine Captain the truth when he asked. The Marines all snickered because they would have never done that even when asked.

Probably all more than you wanted to know, but back to the point Marines might be a number of things including crazy as hell, but undisciplined is not one of them.
