Here is the first cracked update for the PC version of Gears Of War released by the group BAT. Basically the update only fixes various performance issues as well as some fixes to do with the LIVE online service. So get this if you want to make your game to run better it wont take much of your time as it is only 4.25 MB.

The licensed / genuine / uncracked version did nothing for the original game, so don’t bother.

do you use official ati driver? (if you have an ati card)
it does only work with official drivers
could not get it to start either when i had installed some cracked drivers.it always crashed

Only working for me is the exe named ‘hamachi fix’ - it doesn’t crash at all.
@12,duberryboy1: a way of solving the save problem is by simply disconnecting your internet cable. Its windows Live that deletes your saves.

disconnecting before starting the game? coz i had saved my checkpoints file..then i downgraded to xp..copied the folder back, it recognized my previous profile, but deleted the checkpoints.

I am so underwhelmed with GOW on PC. For something that 360 owners were leg humping all last Christmas its not THAT great a game and is rather repetitive.
can anyone confirm that this does work? instead of all the argumentative useless comments?
I never really got what the big buzz and all the glowing reviews was about either. It is an ok FSP but nothing spectacular. A bit repetitive and the gameplay feels pretty slow, just hunker down behund something and take shots until you killed everything and then walk to the next savepoint and repeat…

Update works fine here, I didnt have any problems with the original version either though.
i manage to update the game and done the crack, but i was getting a runtime error, did the “warengine” files thingy and then instead of runtime error i get a message “please double click Startup.exe to play the game” and the game closes itself after the intros, tried what @26:indogamemaniacs said and it worked, basically i used the crack from version 1.0 (instead of v1.1) and i get no errors, so i guess this new crack isn’t working

Simple answer this game is amazing. Better than 360 version only cause of moddability and the fact that you actually get to fight the brumak this time instead of just run away. UT3 was crap only if you have played the others as there all the dam same.

This is a boring ass kid’s game. It is a cartoon. Silly looking blood splatters. You don’t have to aim just fire like mad.
This game is just absurd in terms of buggyness, but i still want to play it. In the gamespot foruns theres like more than 500 oficial bugs reported… 4mb patch… yeah, right.

@38 see u talk before u think, i played the game on Hardcore level, taking cover has nothing to do with thinking cuz u thats no tactics Assshole, every level is the same u run take cover, shooot them, move again ,take cover again, shoot again move again,……….. and so on nothing special, but As i said The Graphics are sick
if you get errors..and it happened to me..you should uninstall fully and reinstall it then use the crack..works perfect!

A tactical shooter is when u can choose when to attack, from where, maybe to ambush someone or to just sneak by them. this game is more shoot-em-up

i never said cover is the only tactic that there is. he denies that its even a PART of tactic.
its not a deep tactical shooter like Raven Shield but its not meant to be either. but there definitely is certain depth of tactics involved. taking cover is part of a tactic you say and gears of war perfects the cover taking system. if you dont see that, then sorry to disappoint you but your style of play sucks then.
Sorry if this is the wrong place to ask this Q if it is please direct me to the right place, ta! downloaded a couple of games seem to have installed ok, when I try to play black sreen apperarin about a third of the screen then back to desk top, the other game flashes up on the screen the disappears, would greatly appreciate any help. XP Pro, dual core processor, big ass graphics card,all other games are playing fine.

anyway, i got a problem with live. i take it the only way to save the game is to og into live right? when i try to make a new profile in-game an error message pops up saying it can’t log me in. if i try to use an existing profile, i need to input a serial key (which i don’t have).
anyone know how to fix this?

…Uhmm… why would it need more space? A patch is a patch, and it can weigh as much as the game’s code needs… Naturaly only content-enhancing patches are heavyer on the megabytes… If the changes are some small(but vital) mistakes in the code, the wtf should it be bigger?
Perfroamnce\optimizations are not automaticly relevant too size increase of the game.
nevermind, i reinstalled the game and it works fine now.
I did my solution by upgrading to Vista. Dunno why it works but it dose :S. Damn Microsoft can’t make Gears of wars working with XP… PR for Vista upgrade maybe… :’(

i got the game to work under xp, but laggy as hell. played c0d4 fine, and even crysis played better than this. does this patch solve performance problem or not?
To stop the lag/stuttering, turn the texture option down as its on v.high by default. The patch does address the stuttering problem I read somewhere. This worked for me even with a 512MB g.card ( ati 1900XT) without the patch. Im thinking that the textures are not compressed or similar.

and when i open game it shows me black screen and goes back to desktop….

There is a new crack for the new patch of GOW just search it in torrents. ^_^
In regard to the startup.exe patch..Try opening the game not from the CD but through the microsoft games folder in your program files..hope that helps…Save problem still seems to be rampant like a disease as i have been following this game for weeks and seems like no new progress..Kinda curious about this patch for the crack tho..might search for it.. ;)>
Microsoft deserves a swift kick in the ass for releasing this game to the PC platform..
wow every time i start up the start up thing it says run time error
and when i run the startup it shuts down after 50 seconds of game play….. i dont get it!

After the install the game is in spanish and when i edit the lang txt file it crashes the game only runs in spanish for me

the game has runtime error whitch occours in unreal engine the aplication cannot be fixed it should be skipped somehow i have runtime error when i kill berserker in 1 lvl it craches , dont know how to skip reinstalled with all help from internet and still no use . Halo 3 is way better when this . found the solution. go to http://www.gamecopyworld.com and search for gears of war. then download the NO-CD v1.2 crack and the startup problem will be fixed :).
There is second patch already, but it hasn’t been cracked yet, hope I’d find it here…

We’re having trouble with GOW…it’s been reinstalled, all the specs are good, but it won’t run, we just get “Software Update” and nothing happens (no processes, nothing running). Anyone know a fix for this? (And apologies if this is a dumb question…I’m not tech savvy, just trying to find a solution for my son.)
It works fine on my pc but for all of the people with problems, 1st if u hate gears of war or think its boring why post. why not just chuck out your disc. 2nd for the people who like the game go get an xbox 360 and play. no bugs or anything. well my disc fell down and broke andfter 2 years but hey in november guess what, Gears of War 2 is coming out. why not just get that.( and if u want a “tactical” shooter where u can sneak and stuff get crysis. or even stupid splintercell)
