Gavin Rossdale - Wanderlust (2008)

This is the brand new album from the former lead singer of one of 1990’s most seminal bands, Bush, Gavin Rossdale. It’s hard to believe it now, but at one point, he was known as more than just Mr. Gwen Stefani. I haven’t listened to this yet, so I don’t know if it has any classics on it on par with Machine Head, Comedown, Everything Zen, etc., but I figure it’s still worth a listen. Thanks to BUTT, we are getting this over a week before it hits stores on June 3rd.

Gavin Rossdale (born Gavin McGregor Rossdale, 30 October 1967) is a British musician most famous for being the lead singer and guitarist of the former British rock band, Bush, and later the lead singer and guitarist of Institute, which broke up in 2006 after only one album. He is also currently married to Gwen Stefani, they have one son, Kingston (2006), and are expecting their second child in 2008.

Wanderlust is the debut solo album by Bush frontman Gavin Rossdale, to be released by Interscope Records in June 2008 (see 2008 in music). It is his first LP since Institute’s Distort Yourself in 2005 (see 2005 in music). The lead single “Love Remains The Same” was released digitally on April 1, 2008.

The album was produced by Bob Rock and finds Rossdale collaborating with drummer Josh Freese, guitarist Chris Traynor (also formerly of Bush), bassist Paul Bushnell and keyboardist Jamie Muhoberac.

I forgot who this guy was until i heard his voice on ellen. Its Bush man! Even though this guy was the main singer, he sounds like a douche bag without the original band.

Hey A Bundy, I think you’re thinking of Scott Stapp from Creed. Gavin is cool beans. I loved his work with Bush and Institute so this solo album has been a long time coming for him.

I was just reading an interview by Rossdale and it says that this was supposed to be a Bush album, but his bandmates (yes they are still a band) didn’t want to release anything at this time. The article is at alternativeaddiction.com

Agree with most comments here. First Bush album, Sixteen Stone, was nothing short of sensational - in the same league IMO as Nevermind and Ten. Second album was a big letdown… I’m hoping I won’t want to hunt him down and smack him after taking the time to download and listen to this one!

Yeah he is British, but to be exact he is Scottish. Its like saying a Mexican is American because its part of the Americas, it doesn’t hurt to be specific.

Hope its a good album, I liked Institute.

Nothing worse than a musician that not only names the band his name, but also shoves his face on the album. Lame. What an ego maniac.

If he had released this 12 years ago, someone might have cared. Now, the best he can hope for is the ‘Oh, that guy from Bush… Whatever…”

The comments so far aren’t very useful (what a surprise !).

Who’s actually LISTENED to this album and can provide a decent review of it (rather than the usual two-word comments like “It sucks!” or “It rocks!” etc.)

In other words, could someone who’s heard the album please post an intelligent review that clearly explains why they like or dis-like this album ?

That would be most helpful !

He’s not Scottish he’s English. Born in London. The band Bush named themselves after the Shepherd’s Bush area of London.

who are all of you people posting?

does anyone know anything about gavin rossdale?!
he’s a great singer, he was born in shepards bush, england. a suburb of london.
he was arguably the top alternative rock star of the 1990s.

    cobain = overrated.

If you’re a longtime fan of Bush’s sound and/or an admirer of Gavin Rossdale’s previous songwriting, then DO NOT LISTEN TO WANDERLUST! From the production of the music to his vocals and lyrics, the growling alt-rock wolf has been deFANGED. Thanks a lot, Gwen - you single-handedly succeeded in emasculating one of the most powerful and brilliant artists of my generation. I still, to this day, feel that Gavin was one of the best lyricists I’d ever encountered - not because he wrote about universal pap that pleased everyone, but because he could communicate in a vivid and compelling way. Some of the tripe on this album is only half a degree removed from “You’ll Be In My Heart” or “Can You Feel the Love Tonight”. That’s how bad it is.

It’s heartbreaking. I can’t tell you how much. Stay away from this album if you ever liked any of Bush’s material. Now, if you’ll pardon me, I’m going to curl up with 16 Stone and weep.
