Ah, here is another old-timer released on HD: Gattaca (1997). This Sci-Fi/Thriller has nice ratings and I’ve checked this out myself too. It was decent, not top-notch. If you have nothing to do for the weekend (and have a fast connection) this one might entertain you, but if you haven’t seen other thrillers *cough* 30 days of night */cough* I would recommend that one more. It’s up to you 
Vincent is one of the last “natural” babies born into a sterile, genetically-enhanced world, where life expectancy and disease likelihood are ascertained at birth. Myopic and due to die at 30, he has no chance of a career in a society that now discriminates against your genes, instead of your gender, race or religion. i do love the future look the artistic directors created for this movie, the brutal 1950’s look for future films is always good, like in Brazil, that is an awesome film too!

This is one of the best feel good movies of all time. Just like ‘Forrest Gump’ and ‘Goodwill hunting’ it shows what can be doe in the face of adversity. It is also amazing to see Jude law, Uma Thurman and Ethan Hawke showing some real acting talent before, they become ridiculously famous.

Calling a cult classic “not top notch” as if your opinion is final isn’t a great idea. It just makes you sound like you have no idea what you’re talking about when it comes to movies, especially when you compare it to a mediocre vampire action movie.
This is a brilliant film and one of my favourites!
It is possible we might be heading towards a DNA prejudice society as we uncover the secrets of human coding and performance.
One of the best movies I’ve seen.

Wow! comparing this to 30 Days of Night!? first off this is a Drama/Sci-fi/Thriller - “Drama” usualy requires acting which 30 Days of Night had NONE… that movie was a total disgrace to vampires and goes against everything they stood for, they acted like stupid animals running around the streets jumping on roofs infront of everyone. also they wouldn’t kill off an entire village in one night. noone would ever come back! so they would have to find “food” somewhere else! good plan morons! vampires that have been around for thousands of years blending/hiding from the public would never do something that stupid. they even mention it in the movie before they burn the entire place down… good coverup! dummies.
it was one of the most braindead/storyless vampire movies ever made doesn’t even hold a thread to the Blade trilogy/Interview With a Vampire/Bram Stoker’s etc.
OK so here’s some facts for you people.
1. I’m a male.
2. I have a boyfriend.
3. We are homosexuals.
4. We will be getting married. Instead of wedding rings, we will use penile rings.

I thought 30 days of night was utter rubbish. It didnt even last 30 days they sorted it in 4 so the vampires couldnta been that tough. Alot of it was just trying to remake “the thing” with the cold abandoned place away from every1 with some mysterious evil working under the cover of darkness cutting them off even further. But the thing (carpenter remake) was alot better and i doubt will ever need a further remake. 30 days of night was mainly a media hype that people got excited about and only say it is great to avoid letting every1 they talked the movie up to knowing that they were disappointed.

This is one of my favourite films I had to rake the high street shops to find a DVD of it a few years ago.
It’s not comparable to 30 days of night which is more horror/thriller and not sci-fi/drama like Gattaca. Quality is a big difference Gattaca is some of the best actors of the time and now and 30 days of night has a fairly no name cast. Gattaca is a truly awe inspiring film, thoughtful but driven its about as good as a film can get it ticks pretty much every box on the list.
Thanks for posting but try and watch the film first before commenting on it and compare it to a film which has about as much as common to it as the Hitchhikers guide to the galaxy.

just watched this for the first time and got to say this is one of the best movies ive seen in weeks. its over 10 yrs old but it feels like it was just released. this is a must have for any collector of fine films

This is defiantly a good sci-fi movie. It’s a bit more of a thinker and a bit slower compared to what ppl normally expect out of sci-fi.
