Garage 2007 DVDRip XviD-aAF

Not a lot of Irish films are released in the scene, so this should be interesting. This is a depressing one folks, so if you’re already feeling down (Not another manic monday! Working 9 to 5… what a way to make a livin’ etc.) you’ll probably want to skip this one for the time being. It has won a series of respected film festival prizes, so at some point you should whip this out of the archives to enjoy.

Quality: Excellent quality of this release as can be expected from a DVDRip by a well known scene group. 995kb/s and 192kb/s AC3 audio on 1CD is awesome. The english spoken in this film can be quite hard to understand due to the thick Irish accents of some of the characters. Subtitles are supposed to be included according to the NFO but I can’t see any :/

Tragi-comedy from the margins of contemporary Irish life. Regarded by his neighbors as a harmless misfit, eliciting idle kindness, benign tolerance and occasional abuse, Josie has spent all his adult life as the caretaker of a crumbling petrol station on the outskirts of a small town in the mid-west of Ireland. He is limited, lonely, yet relentlessly optimistic and, in his own peculiar way, happy. But then over the course of a summer, Josie’s world shifts. A teenager, David, comes to work with him. David likes him. They open up to each other and suddenly the lonely adult is drinking cans down at the railway tracks with the local kids. He is awakened to needs in himself that have never been met. And Carmel, from the local shop, who has always been kind to him, stirs feelings within him that he struggles to name. And then one thoughtless moment unravels the threads of faltering friendship. Events spiral. Josie’s life is changed, forever.

    This is a very slow and simple film, I wouldn’t recommend downloading it if you don’t like those types of films. But I found it very enjoyable, and the lead actor is actually a hilarious comedian and was in Father Ted so you might recognise him.

    Looks like I just wasted my download quota – nobody here (down under) seems to understand the bloody language. Do I have to go to Bondi Beach, find some Irish backpacker and ask him/her to translate? ReeGed, you mislead all us poor non-Irish guys by saying subtitles were included. Any Irish out there? Can you rip the subtitles for other mortals?

  67. Southside_Irish
    April 11th, 2008 | 10:42

    @67
    American born to Irish immigrants here…apparently my dual citizenship, and time spent there with cousins etc really have paid off. However, being the uber-n00b that i am, i haven’t the slightest idea as to how to rip subtitles for this. I can tell you however, that one of my sisters to this day struggles with the language in movies (she’s fine in person)…and wears out the REWIND button…persistence is key. Especially with this film, i downloaded it when it first appeared and finally sat down and watched start to finish a couple days ago. I’m a sucker for all things “character study” and to be honest haven’t stopped thinking about Josie and his story since…

    Thanks for the site, and especially this release…

    Speaking of Irish films…anyone have an idea as to when In Bruges will be released?
