Veteran game scene group VACE released this night the standalone expansion Twilight of the Arnor for the great turn-based strategy game Galactic Civilizations II. If you like strategy games, this game, it’s the best of last months in the genere, a must-have game for any strategy lover! Ripped music and movies, but you can download the addons and you will have the complete game.

Galactic Civilizations II: Twilight of the Arnor is the final act in the epic Dread Lords saga. The game includes a massive payload of new content and features requested by the series’ devout fanbase. In addition to a new campaign that ties up the Dread Lords saga, Twilight of the Arnor adds civilization-specific technology trees and planetary improvements that add even more flavor to each alien race, while greatly expanding the strategic depth of the game. A vast array of new ships, weapons, starbases and ship components will be available to players, including the devastating Terror Star, which can annihilate entire star systems. Galactic Civilizations II: Twilight of the Arnor requires GC2: Gold Edition or GC2: Dark Avatar.

    Don’t be diverted by clueless kids. There are few 4X games available today, and it’s a good one. The only thing I dislike about it is that it’s single-player only. I actually bought a copy of Gal Civ II: Dread Lords to support the developers.

    I bought this along with galciv 2 and dreadlords before it, if you like turn based strategy, it doesn’t get any better. I’m not even into space games normally but this is awesome.

    This and Sins of a Solar Empire….stardock rocks.

    “Galactic Civilizations II: Twilight of the Arnor requires GC2: Gold Edition or GC2: Dark Avatar.” so it isn’t really a standalone game? Standalone would imply not needing anything else. Which is it?

    Because it is today’s kids who regularly suffer from ADD (Attention Deficit Disorder) and because every mature gamer who knows what a 4X game is would never diss or dismiss Gal Civ or any other game of the genre for being slow-paced.

    Also, X-com and Jagged Alliance have little to do in common with this particular game or even the whole genre. If you want to name similar games, think Civilization, Master of Orion, Imperium Galactica, or Alpha Centauri.

    It’s STANDALONE because it already includes the original game and the first expansion. “Twilight of the Arnor requires GC2: Gold Edition or GC2: Dark Avatar” doesn’t refer to this release. The game unpacks into 1.40GB and Kaspersky doesn’t detect any threats. The expansion is only available directly from Stardock and there’s no demo, so I’ll be treating this as such. If anyone from Stardock is reading this: if I like what I see, I’ll buy it from you. Next time release a demo.

    I’d suspect alone in the dark isn’t out because its not as big a release as mass effect and it uses the same copy protection as that which took a while to crack properley.
    It may even go uncracked forever!

    What the hell is this?! I love this game, so I download the 3 v-gcta files, which decompress into 53 5meg zip files, which decompress into 53 5meg rar files, which 7zip is unable to decompress properly, so I use WinRAR which works. My question is: what is the deal with compressed files inside compressed files inside compressed files? Do people in “the scene” think we got a bunch of floppies lying about for this stuff or something? Or maybe they split the files like that so it’s easier to re-upload a corrupted part, but that doesn’t explain the redundant compression. Anyone care to explain?

    Not sure if this is rip, since Stardock actually releases its downloads in parts like the main game, music, etc.

    Anyway, this is a great game. Been looking for this add-on forever. Anyone who enjoyed games like Civ and Master of Orion will love this game.

    Stardock doesn’t put copy protection on, so VACE is just a lame group who didn’t have to crack this. Kinda like skidrow who is always “releasing” games that have no copy protection lol.

    Plus, stardock gives a TON of extra content to people with valid serial numbers. This is one game thats definately worth buying if you like it.

    Just to conclude this: I’ll be keeping my promise and most certainly buy the Ultimate Bundle later this week. Haven’t played Gal Civ in a long time and it just felt great to try out the new campaign. Anyone who plays this on a decent machine, be sure to force high level antialiasing and anisotropic filtering through the video driver control panel: the game look much better with Supersampling AA 4×4 and AF 16x turned on.

    Well it’s good that SKIDROW and VACE are releasing these games such as Twilight and Supreme Ruler, as otherwise these games are impossible to get! So what that they don’t need cracks? Without these groups the games would be unavailable. Don’t talk to me about paying for them as I don’t have a credit card and can’t get these damn games in country Australian town anyway!

    I did exactly i was supposed to , Run MOVIES.EXE (it has to be located in the root of the game directory!). Overwrite files when asked. and none of the movies are working they are blank in game.

    Good game: Most places will take paypal, and you can set that up with a bank account instead of a credit card.

    wingcmdr: I think rips suck. Whats the point of getting a game without sound/music or without cut scenes? Part of the reason I play games is for the cut scenes. Unless you have a crappy ISP that limits your GB per month to some crappy low level.

    This is a half a22ed crappy rip. Full game as 1 ISO or a single install or don’t bother next time. A bat file does not count as an install. Also much of the content is missing from the gold package, not to mention this release does not appear compatible with my previous install of the gold edition which I have purchased. Just plan sloppy.

    There is no ISO, since game is only relased by digital distribution.

    Plus, it has add-ons that add the ripped content (music and movies).

    And is marked STANDALONE, so it has both basic game and first expanion included.

    Word of warning:
    Galactic_Civilizations_II_Twilight_of_the_Arnor_Movie_Addon-VACE
    does not restore all movies that are ripped!!!
    Tutorials, Intro, Victory and several other movies are NOT restored with this release.

    What a shame. This add-on to ripped release should really be NUKED.

    P.S.
    On plus side, music add-on seems complete.

    Thing is that Twilight or Arnor (short: TA) is not supposed to be installable if having not at least 1.80c version of Dark Avatar (only available through Stardock online service).

    What the “l337″ VACE group did is that just changed few registries to make new expansion think it has 1.80c DA installed, but that can pretty much lead to problems in future since TA is dependent on files used by both basic game and DA.

    If they where able to obtain TA (also only available only with legit serial, of course), they should’ve at least patched Dark Avatar..

    Currently, using GalCiv2 Gold (from ISO or original disc), plus P2P rips of 1.80g patch and Twilight of Arnor floating on piratebay seem to be only way to get complete game (with TA patched to 1.95).

    Unfortunatly the “outlaws” version is only TA version 1.91 so a lot older than the 1.95 you can obtain and play without any trouble. [not this useless vace-rips]
    You can still install the outlaws version and then overwrite it with the 1.95 full rip though

    Now is time to wait for a release of a ripped 1.96 version ^^

    Stardock is one of the good guys. I know i sound like a tool saying this but I urge any of you that can afford it to buy this if you like it. Its an indie studio that goes above and beyond to support their product, release tons of free content and nurture a great community around their products. They’ve spoken out against the big publishing companies, about draconian DRM models etc.

    The only difference is that they don’t protect retail releases.

    But anything else (including patches), must go through through their Stardock Impulse service (similar to Steam).
