the alternative to playing with your child is to leave them to themselves and not interact in any way with them, the ball was just being thrown around between the family and just happened to hit the girl a little too hard, the mother immediately comforted her and all is going to be ok.
she is a better mum than the ones that never have any family time together, I bet a couple of minutes later they were running around throwing the ball and having fun again.
