Fujitsu introduces first fast 320 GB laptop drive
Fujitsu Limited today announced its new MHZ2 BJ series of 2.5″ hard disk drives that feature a rotational speed of 7200 RPM and capacities up to 320 GB. Sales of the new series will begin at the end of June 2008. The new series is designed for use in high-performance PCs, such as high-end notebook computers and compact desktops. The MHZ2 BJ series requires only 2.3 W of power for read and write operations, ranking it among the most power-efficient drives in its class.
Fujitsu has responded to these needs with hard disk drives that feature a rotational speed of 7200 RPM and capacities up to 320 GB, double the capacity of previous models. In addition, the series also supports the Serial ATA 3.0 Gb/s interface, which has been rapidly adopted throughout the industry, for high-speed data transfers. More details available in the product tech sheet.

nice
And this summer they will come with 500GB laptop-drives, nice for laptops in the near future ;)Wasn’t it Fujitsu who also plans to build in two 500GB laptop drives in one laptop this summer?! Nice to see this! Thanks for the info
oh my, the laptop world is revolutionizing.
as a laptop user myself, i can’t wait to get my hands on 500 GB lappies~
Wow i like, cant wait for it to come to SA
Correct me if im wrong but there has been a 320gb hitachi avaailable for some time also i think a 500gb somewhere….
http://www.engadget.com/2008/02/25/fujitsu-mhz2-bt-the-latest-500gb-2-5-inch-laptop-drive/
but im not sure if they are available to buy :p
I need more GB’s for my notebook. Thinkin about getting an external hard drive…not sure which i should get though for the best reliability and GB’s per price.
Nice, this means for space for PS3 games once a mod-chip is designed for it
nice for laptop users hopefully prices would drop soon enough. though when it comes to hard disks, its always been fujitsu and hitachi when it comes to “firsts” e.g. first 1TB HDD, etc. but I am a Seagate and Western Digital fanboy eversince
@Big G
Yes there are already 320gb lappy hdds out but only at 5400rmp (spin speed) (they operare slower)
This is talking about the higher performance 7200rmp drives
jt
3 out of 3 fujistu laptops I had, died after one or two years of use. that brand really sucks.
I’m on a samsung right now.
There’s also something available in laptops called RAID 0…
garbage,,,,
@8
Do not put a 7200 RPM in your Ps3, you want 5400 RPM
thanks for the post, but whats the deal with your “paid reviews” ?
blocking comments?
i just bought a 320 gb samsund hd, which is reported to be faster than its 7200rpm 250gb counterparts. so this fujitsu stuff isn’t really special.
btw samsung is also the first one to sell a 500gb 2.5 inch hd with standard height, something the others are not able to produce.
Samsung FTW as far as 2.5 inch hds are concerned…

Lenovo Y710 Laptop comes with 500GB, but you can swap out these two smaller 250GB hard drives, being how it comes with two hard drives and insert either the Hitachi or Samsung 500GiB HDD’s so you end up with 1TiB of memory storage.
Another nice feature of Lenovo IdeaPad Y710 is that you can boot via USB since the BIOS does support this directly. And it offers Boot Menu, so you can dual boot Vista (if you need it) and or XP without having to use a Vista MBR. Swapping HDD made simple…
Even the Lenovo IdeaPad Y510 is very nice, as it’s only $600 (TigerDirect) and Lenovo provides XP hardware drivers online. The VeriFace (face recognition) software works in XP too!
@5: yes, they are already out, but not at 7200
@13: garbage? please dude, you’re lame.
this toshiba laptop i have has fujitsu’s best thing on the market (200gb 2.5inch 7200rpm). its the best laptop HDD i’ve ever had, so i have no doubt the 320 will rock socks too.
on my work I have experience with lots of brands,
for DELL (inspiron + lattitude) I can say we had lot’s of problems with keyboards,
for lenovo (T61) there are loads of problems with drivers for XP
and for fujisu (E4010) we have lots of problems with laptops not wanting to boot
probably these problems can not only by brand specific, but also type specific, so I’m not saying that all these brands have big issues, but some types surely have
woohoo for for fujitsu.
(unintentional rhyme)
i cant wait for a big upswing in solid states
so they’ll be cheaper and have more demand for
technological improvements therein.
yay for the lappies and those tech savvy japanese
@20
you’ve had lots of probs @work w/latitudes & inspiron keyboards?
…just curious–what kind?
(other than typical “my dad bought me this dell and i spilled my starbucks on it, and now it doesn’t work)
