Fringe S01E01 DVDSCR XviD-MEDiEVAL

MEDiEVAL brings us a DVD Screener of the upcoming new sci-fi show Fringe from FOX. This screener is fullscreen and dose not appear to have any black and white scenes or any watermarks. This show seems to be good, but almost all new American shows that I like end up getting cancelled… Jericho, New Amsterdam, Moonlight, Standoff, all great shows, hopefully this one will not suffer the same fate.

Show Summary:
In the new sci-fi FOX drama, Fringe, a research scientist named Peter Bishop and FBI agent Olivia Warren team up to investigate paranormal activity. They seek help from Bishop’s father, Walter, a brilliant (but possibly insane) scientist who is being held in a mental institution. Fringe explores mysteries of the paranormal as well as the relationships between the characters, and is steeped in mythology.

Episode Plot:
FBI agent Olivia Dunham investigates the events when all the passengers on a plane die.

I really wish we had more police and FBI shows. Maybe I can make one up! Here we go. Special Agent ________ is assigned to investigate ________ that has been causing ________ trouble for many years. His partner, _________ tries to cope with the fact that ________ happened in the past. Together, the team uncovers _________ while dodging ________ and ends up saving the day.

Created by J.J. Abrams, maker of Alias, Cloverfield, and freaking LOST (you might want to add this to the description btw). I don’t think this is getting canceled anytime soon.

There was some memo a while ago that said networks leak these s hows onto P2P networks to see how the reaction will be. On one hand I think its cool that they know we’re the target audience. On the other hand it seems like a slap in the face because they tend to sue people for filesharing. Maybe they should pick one course of action and stick with it.

Watched this on ninjavideo before it was even posted here. ‘Made of epic fail’ if you ask me. Though I realy liked the openingsscene and I honestly couldn’t wait to find out what this show would be all about, having seen it I’d describe the show as the X-files – no, make that a lame x-files ripoff – meets a lame not funny ripoff of (a town called) Eureka. This setting is then inhabited by overly cliche characters that have about the depth of sesame street puppets yet a lot less personality. Guess J.J. isn’t God after all. )=

I haven’t seen this or Whedon’s new show Dollhouse, but I can tell you now that neither will last more than one season, if that. They’re on Fox, which has cancelled every supernatural or SciFi show since The X-Files, with the exception of the Terminator show. These will be no exception.

FOX = F*** Over ‘Xtreme, It’s what they do to their shows and their viewers.

Thought it was pretty good, with amazing production quality for a pilot. I think this will really start to shine when the mythology is expanded. Some people have accused the writers of Lost of “making it up as they go along,” but I’ll bet Abrams has learned from that and got the whole thing fleshed on this one from the start.

My favorite line: “Let’s make some LSD!”

Did anyone notice this has DRM embedded in it, you are unable to transfer it to your tivo or any other media outlet, ie ipod, zune, etc…. When I try to transfer I get a warning that it will not transfer due to copyright infringments or basically its encoded with DRM….This is something I have never seen before, besided securecom and stuff on dvds….even after reencoding it to mpeg2 it retained the DRM….can anyone explain?

  45. Lukesed
    June 15th, 2008 | 06:55

@Joe – wtf are you talking about? I converted it to mp4 while watching the first ten minutes on another computer. I then copied the mp4 onto my ipod and finished watching it with my ipod through my TV. If there was any DRM I would have noticed. The whole idea of DRM on a scene .avi is stupid anyway.

  46. joe

one show i liked and was pissed that got cancelled was a treasure hunter type show on abc. if anyone can help with the name i would appreciate it. dont remember how many episodes it was. was about 3 maybe. i remember they went to antartica and found a pyramid under the ice. only thing i remember. if anyone knows which one im talking about, which most likely none of u will, can u tell me it. thanks. was on a couple of years ago so i know its a long shot.

    June 15th, 2008 | 11:24

    @ 13,

Oh do be quiet, you clearly hadn’t even had time to watch it by the time you posted so I imagine your views are probably founded from that one fact. Don’t go round talking as if you know what you’re on about.

Besides that, I do enjoy the way everyone always goes on about associating J.J Abrams with Lost. Didn’t he only do the first couple of episodes or something, and then hasn’t actually been involved with creating anymore of the show since then?

Personally, I really enjoyed this. A tad cliche in a couple of places, but overall sets a great scene for the show- and it has two former inmates from Oz! W00t for Alvarez lol!!

    June 15th, 2008 | 12:13

@58 No it was Jericho that the nuts were sent for.

Hopefully they won’t get cancelled, after the fuss made when Whedon’s Firefly got cancelled maybe Fox might give this one a proper chance. And anything with JJ Abrams behind is like a network godsend, the ratings will be through the roof so hopefully that wont be cancelled either

Worst Pilot ever… bad acting and abysmal story. If you slept at school or have an IQ of 90 you will like it. This is a stinker and it will be canceled within 4-5 episodes. I normally love this kind of shows, and the first 10 minutes had promise.. but I was very disappointed. This is TV for those of you that think “Loose Change” is a documentary….

well i liked it. im no loser film and tv show critic like some people on here like oblodo and a couple of other so maybe thats why i liked it. hopefully it doesn’t get cancelled afer a couple of episodes. there is nothing on but sh!tty shows nowadays. guess people like shows where u can vote more than these type of shows because it makes them feel like they count for something.

    June 15th, 2008 | 14:56

Well, as many people have alluded to, it is very similar to x-files in its premise. But that’s pretty much where all comparisons end. It isn’t as engaging in it character development, is filled with cliched characters and overall bad acting. At one point in time it even borrows the score from the movie “signs” to create atmosphere and it fails. J.J Abrahms is no Chris Carter. And yea, I don’t see this show having a future. Then again there is something ot be said for the longevity of certain shows on the idiot box, whose target audience i think is…err…idiots :)

    @Slyck
The music in these early pilots is always borrowed from other media, it will be changed later.

    Alright, seen it last night.

Overall it was pretty good for a TV show, although they need to work a lot more on the “scientific parts”. For me when it comes to this it’s either do it well or just don’t do it at all (come on after 17 years the guy comes out from his cell and the next afternoon he’s got the entire lab ready with the ultra neat software that he apparently had left there? That’s just silly…)

    for the cast:
Anna Torv is great! also quite hot =]
Mark Valley (seen first in Keen Eddie) is actually quite good in the bad guy suit.
Nice to see Kirk Acevedo back also :D (from Miguel Alvarez in Oz)

so i would definitely watch that show, but as long as it’s clear that it won’t take more than a dozen episodes to end. As much as i like JJ Abrams work, enough with the endless stories…

ps: please excuse my bad english

“FBI agent Olivia Dunham investigates the events when all the passengers on a plane die.” JJ Abrams seems to like planes xD

Waaaaaaay better than the X-Files, which was cheesy, main stream television. This felt more like Cinema quality in all aspects. It was actually better than many movies of the same genre.
If you haven’t seen it & you like X-files, see this.
If you haven’t seen it and you don’t like X-Files, see this.

It is true that it could be more scientific, but come on, it’s about “Fringe Science”, which as the characters themselves said, is not really a science at all.
(Although waking up after a big dose of smack and LSD and being lucid….. Well, thats a stretch)

I thought it was great. Can’t wait to see how the story-line progresses. I actually hope that this show does well and keeps the similarities to X-Files. There really is not anything on tv like this right now. As far as JJ’s shows dragging on forever…what do you think keeps people watching every week. If each episode was a self contained story arc then there would be no “Oh my god I can’t wait till next week.” moments. The shows that follow this pattern are often the most successful. X -files, Twin Peaks, Lost, Heroes, Prison Break, 24, BSG. Each episode has a smaller story arc that is dealt with in that episode, but also provide clues to the larger arc that spans the whole season or even series. The fact that this show is going to be on FOX scares me. That network is a slaughter-house for good shows.
