French Release Group CiNEFOX Busted – Three Members Arrested
After a bit of freak-age on one of my pre-db’s I decided to check it out. It’s slightly old news by now but I think it’s pretty significant. If the scene was freaking today I’m sure there’s good cause. {<\\\ANSWER.FRENCH.SITES.BUSTED.SECURITY.ISSUES-READNFO-2008-BUSTME>}
The scene is generally known to be a tough nut to crack for the copyright police, but for one group, their time may be up. A French report suggests that three members of Cinefox, a French movie release group, was recently arrested.

On the heels of the news that France is formally mulling a three strike policy for online users, one of the French movie scene releasers was busted. The French news site 01Net reported the news recently. According to the report, the arrests came when French anti-piracy outfit ALPA (Association against audiovisual piracy) made a complaint. The people that were arrested, judging by the report, were the site-ops for the group. The report also says that CineFox was the first group to release French version of X-Men 3, Jumper, 10,000 BC and Mission Impossible“This is a real case of an organized group that has global branches” he adds. Dozens of servers in France, linked to the Netherlands, contain thousands of gigabytes of counterfeit. “The group is far from being film collectors or novelty-seekers. The main purpose of these groups is clearly money. An investigator said that without [the groups], the forums and boards (such as Oleoo, which was closed by the same service, NDLR, some time ago) wouldn’t exist.”
This whole illegal underground culture generates money . . . and makes for vicious fights between the different sides [of the pirating battle]. The competition seems to be merciless on the Internet. “The Warez scene is corrupted by money with an obvious starting point, which is part of it. There are a lot of dirty tricks, and here is more proof.“Cinefox would essentially be shut down because of a document which was circulated by a competitor in August, 2007, a text file that revealed information on counterfeiters: the servers, IP addresses, and screen names behind the pirates and their accomplices. A precious document for investigators, who could now track down the leaders of the group: not a simple task, otherwise.
<A little harsh don’t you think?>
“They could always catch two or three,” explains a Warez member, “but today it’s becoming more and more complicated to find us. We lease servers overseas – in Estonia, in the U.S. with “layered” hosting, or in the Czech Republic – the information is hidden on different servers. It’s encrypted. Our connections are encrypted with SSL.”
The report also suggests that another scene release group known as Carnage have quit the scene as a result of the recent bust.

ha!
Damn that sucks….our heart goes out to those guys.

Whats with the stupid anti French cartoon?
I could only imagine that is one of the reasons that the scene has been sooo sslllloooooowwwww lately?
So another group released a document giving up names? Which group is that? They should get raped…
many more other groups that do alot better.
lol im english
That really does suck, and circulating peoples details is a real shabby thing to do, regardless of the reasons.
that aside..
No matter how many people complain, please, please leave that hilarious French cartoon up there!!!!!!!!!
Sorry about the cartoon … couldn’t find anything else relating to it.
‘Tis a shame another group ‘ratted’ out these guys. For-shame!
Damn, a sad day:(
As always, false ideas about the scene & money. Typical.
As for the image, ever since I saw it on uncyclopedia I lol’d, even though I’m french.
Who is making money off these things?
Most people download these things for free!!!
where is the money making, I must be missing out
w00t!
the only people making money off the scene is rlslog and other sites like it.
martin is obviously the leader of DIAMOND
R.I.P. France
Arr its only the french let the police have them
I’m french and i know that an other group called CarNaGe has been busted.I dunno for you guys but in France, they want vote a law to monitoring internet traffic and more, if it goes like that, we couldn’t download soon, these fu*ing bastard don’t understand that student can’t spend money for dvds and cds !!!!
It’s getting hard for us French to get a good release. Good teams get busted or quit, and the legal repression gets tougher (check out the HADOPI laws)
Pirate bases in Czech Republic? My pseudo-pirate ego had just multiplied.
Anyway. Guys, don’t give up!
doing something likes that deserves to gets you shot… best of lucks to cinefox… likes the lil comic tho…
giving out names and IPs sounds like a /b/ raid.
@ 14.
You think Martin is the leader of DiAMOND? lol
who cares
they released
1) French
2) telesyncs
they won’t be missed
shame on the copyright mafia j. lobby
here come 1984
form england to france:

“I’m french and i know that an other group called CarNaGe has been busted.I dunno for you guys but in France, they want vote a law to monitoring internet traffic and more, if it goes like that, we couldn’t download soon, these fu*ing bastard don’t understand that student can’t spend money for dvds and cds !!!!”
Interesting.. isn’t it usually the French who slap the US for it’s ‘draconian’ laws?
Suck on THAT one, froggy!
I’m going to have to thank these french guys for giving up their freedom for the freedom of the scene, and all us leechers. If it wasn’t for guys like this, there would be no scene.
Respect CiNEFOX.
Loving the picture
These Frenchies are serial downloaders man. I think they may even be number one, pro-rata to population. No doubt that French is the second language in this game! I can’t see them pushing those laws through though. They always make a big deal out of these things and then it just fizzles out. They have too many “civil liberties” people to let that type of thing really happen. Good luck to the froggies.

sc0rff:
Isn’t there a good news source from the scene?
I mean, so we can find out if these Cinefox guys were selling their releases or not, and what was the group that betrayed them.
.-
Elect a better government in next elections
Sure they were no good during WWII and no good now. Slap it up them.
Whatver happened to the good ol’ days?!
“The group is far from being film collectors or novelty-seekers. The main purpose of these groups is clearly money”
– I don’t get it. “these groups” are the ones releasing all the rips and people don’t pay to download so where do they gain from it financially?
And surely it’s not for selling ‘fake’ DVDs on the street cos if so why would they share with their group name on it??
@ 31 dev:
http://www.01net.com/editorial/382842/arrestation-de-trois-gros-pourvoyeurs-de-films-pirates/
@27 (clm): No but they are french, just like he said.
Also, I don’t think he meant that they were useless or anything like that, just that he personally didn’t download their releases because he isn’t french.
I feel the same way, but I still think it’s bad for the scene as a whole, unless they were selling.
sc0rff: Guess why they hate p2p? No money to make out of privileges access to stros/dumb and such … that’s part of why they hate us sharing it for free between us as soon as we do after it has been released
!
It’s just my opinion …
@26: You’re concerned lol i saw you’re internet traffic is already monitored in US and you have upload and download limit on your internet connection, we haven’t that (for the moment) in France !!!
They wanna catch the people who SELL warez? So why don’t they just arrest rapidshare managers and take it’s servers down??There isn’t so much warez on any server that there is on rapidshare’s….
@ bluden : I AM a bloody froggy !!!!
they released French releases so it doesnt really matter…
@41
The US doesnt have traffic limits i use my connection all day long at full speed without a problem. Most limits or monitoring is based on the ISP not our country
Carla bruni will give a blow job to anywone except those lame snitchers….that will show them…
I’m not french but I live and study close to france and every pub or public spot you go you can always spot people selling crappy telesync releases out of bags. Cops in europe must have interpreted those people on the streets as the direct accomplices of the scene people. since those releases are french and they are a group releasing french warez and seemed obvious to the law.
This group probably had a leak and got busted due to “drama”.
What did you expect ? You are “playing” with iligal material, and not onnly that, it looks like there is a war going btw all the groups.
I mean, can u believe if some otakus of anime/manga westrn comic would do that ? No nothing, just release damn games/movie/music etc…there is no need for your public war battles.
About the info, well thats what u get after those stupid war battles btw diff. groups. I pers. don´t like it, but who cares, right-
Anyone related to the scene knows that the number 1 rule is, you dont sell warez.
Period.
Doing so will get you and your crew a scene-ban!
no disrespect to the group, but if they rlly sold their releases for money, they deserved to get busted, cuz as far as i know, sharing is not a synonym for selling. But, if they didn’t, the “scene” or a group fan should find the guys that leaked their info and give them a taste of their own medicine.
You have to remember just two things:
-In any war, there are ALWAYS more than just two sides.
-Sharing is caring.
people making money off the scene huh
hmmm wonder how much martin makes everytime one of those full page ads pops up
200,000 uniques a day……
hmmmm
Anyone has the .nfo?
lol @ unknown group getting caught
servers at the oversea – Estonia, wtf is that? i live here and i dont belive that… but who knows…
man that sux i hope this guys can get out of there oor something , hey anybody knows a good web hosting and not too expensive for hosting copy right files on Czech republic or netherlands , i was trying on exmasters.com but thier support sux so any one can help please i have 2 websites with 3500 visits per day and i need webhosting because im from usa
I think carla bruni ass is hosting mates not only at the oversea – Estonia. Could she be busted for sharing?? Cmon..Are the french under some dictatorship or what?? Your lousy politics dont take care of the poor, the homeless, the hungry, the sick, they prefer the ex-models and plain travels…And got the nerve to ger some kids who share movies??? CMON THE REAL THEFT IS NOT THERE!! WAKE UP|!!!! REVOLT!!!!! VIVE LA RESISTANCE!!!! VIVE LA FRANCE LIBRE!!
They should of taken “The Scene” Security 101 in college before they tried to start a group.
HAHA
@Shad3s
“Anyone related to the scene knows that the number 1 rule is, you dont sell warez.”
Actually rule 1 is to not talk about the scene
but whatever…
Seems alot of you guys not realizing any given none .se box would cost around an average of 400+ EUROS to maintain monthly… where you think that money comes from?! Of course it’s sold for leech, but this is something that’s never talked about. And a good excuse for .se sceners to go hating anything ‘rented’ (including it’s grps)
how should they make money by releasing things for free, I don’t get it
@bouma,
you should realize that before any torrent pops up on places like this, the rls has long passed several dozens of servers in the ’scene’.
Ppl will pay to get the stuff where it’s supposed to end up instead of leeching it via p2p.
Rlslog and consorts arent ’scene’; it’s P2P.
Selling warez = Capitalism
Sharing warez = Communism
There were more French troops at the Battle of Yorktown than American, France provided 90% of the gunpowder American soldiers used and the French navy kept the British at bay the entire Revolutionary War. Terrible people those French and so deserving of our typical American idiocracy. Visit France someday and you’ll see that the only “snooty” people are the American and British tourists.
mp3ude, you wont be able to get any at CZ, its not like there are no laws.. sharing copyrighted works is prohibited, of course.
”
Scene members and groups used to get scene banned if they got found out selling releases for money…
”
kekeke, the “scene” has always been about selling releases – wether that was vcd/psx games to asia so they could be silvered (back when groups had decent suppliers, unlike now when most suppliers are kids BUYING silvs) or if it is a group selling leech on sites/letting people “donate” hardware for leech.
Or what about calling cards? plenty of groups got in on that money making opportunity – just ask max/pdx. ;p
That’s been going on for 20years, and there is even more money to be made now.
Any group that doesn’t wind itself down after it’s been narqed is seriously stupid.
I’ve been to france, and they are very un-helpful to the the english.
They also backed down in ww2 to let the germans through france to get to britain.
But to be fair they are quite liberal, and do make nice bread.
51 – im high. “people making money off the scene huh
hmmm wonder how much martin makes everytime one of those full page ads pops up. 200,000 uniques a day……”
Typically, a site with this kind of traffic and a reasonable click thru rate should be generating between GBP 450 and GBP 750 per day in advertising.
That’s why the “authorities” go after the site owners……..
The existence of a thing called a “scene” (how wanky) and its silly and ever-so-self-righteous “rules” is actually a *major vulnerability* of “our” side in the IP wars. In its way, “the scene” is as serious a detriment to free culture as the RIAA is, for two reasons: (1) RTFA – idiots playing out idiot drama, which was not created in a vacuum, it arose in an atmosphere where A and B both think “this is how things ought to be”, but differ, and at least one thinks “the other ought to do things my way”; (2) the existence of “groups” in a “scene” gives rise to an expectation that *they*, and therefore not *we*, are responsible for creating and releasing video files, and therefore *we* will not do it because *they* will.
The solution is really, really simple. Filesharing must become something that *everybody* does. Just buy or trade or rent DVDs, VCR cassettes, whatever. Record TV shows, VCR cassettes, etc to DVD. Then just rip the DVDs, including those TV shows, to some sensible and easily-watched format like AVI. (Or record directly to a file, if you have a device that will do so; there are many available.) *Actually watch* the resultant file to make sure that its graphics and sound *actually work*. Then name it in some sensible manner (and preferably not with dots in the filename!). The ideal name is “TV Show Name S00E00.avi” or “Movie Name.avi”. DO NOT attach hero tags, your name, shout-outs to your grandma, and various other wankiness, identifiers of you, and vulnerabilities, to the name. If you want to do that sort of thing, create a text file called “TV Show Name S00E00.nfo” or “Movie Name.nfo” and put all that stuff in there where those of us who do not give a damn–or wish to protect you from the danger your ego is putting you in–may delete it. Indicators of what it is, such as “DVDRip” or “HDTV”, or when it aired, what network it was on, what year it was released, what actors are in it, its IMDB URL, etc are all useful. Indicators to *you* are detrimental.
Remember, *nobody cares that it was you*. Nobody *wants* to care that it was you. You, if you have any rationality in you, do not want others to care that it was you. “Credit” cannot possibly help you in any way. Stop thinking of it as “credit” and start thinking of it as “evidence against me”. *It’s just a file.* Where’d it come from? Who knows? Isn’t it nice that *we all*, not as “warriors on the anti-IP side”, but rather as sharing human beings, create and share these files for each other, from the TV shows (and books and comics and radio and CDs) we like, rather than relying on clubs of fractious wankers to do it for kudos in the fractious wanker club?
As any reader of cyberpunk will tell you, the most insecure part of any system is the human operator, the “meatsack”. Unlike data, you cannot be copied, you cannot instantly flash from place to place. *You*, the piece with a body, are *vulnerable*. When it becomes computationally more difficult to stop people from sharing IP through computer-related means (let’s face it, from an IT systems point of view the whole kerfuffle is stupid, because “copyright” is not a computable property of data), they will switch to legal and social means, because *that* is where the meatsacks can be reached by their claws. They have done so more and more over the last ten years; this is no coincidence. The only way to protect yourself, and each other, is to remove vulnerabilities. If you love it, set it free: do not let it come back, because it is not yours.
Then upload the file somewhere (not *your* file, *the* file, you own no files – that’s *the whole point* of this, to defeat the concept of file ownership) and create a .torrent file to point to it. Share it until there are at least 10 seeders. Or otherwise anonymously distribute it, like through this new Owner-Free File System thing. Or hand it around on sneakernet with USB drives. Then move on. Rip and share another thing.
“they” backed down? The french (obviously) had a larger civilian resistance than the uk. The uk government went to war against iraq – that doesn’t mean the majority of the populace agree with it. At least the french public fought back and formed a resistance… unlike the british idea of revolution which is to stand around waving placards around (at least until they are told not to – in which case they do as the filth tell them and run off home. obviously there are some decent activists out there, but they are in very short supply sadly :/ ).
As for unhelpful to the english – most ENGLISH people are unhelpful to other english people. There have been very few countries I’ve been to (including england) where people seem to like the english. :> I’m just glad I can pretend to be from another country when abroad. =]
Close down the internet!!!!
IT’S A CONSPIRACY!
The product is “released”. We want it! The scenes then turn around and give out sources of random people to intice some cash out of Anti-Piracy Companies then the Anti-Piracy Companies prosecute random people. When they are fired or don’t want to work for them anymore they quit or get “busted”.
j/k xD
I hope all them torrent re-encoders get busted soon, people like stuffies jambo kingben ths
There complete noobs who ruin the scene for everyone else
tmpgenc express encoders lol
http://www.technutopia.com/videos/thescene/ep1.html nice video blog of a ‘fake’ scener
If they were making money by selling pirated movies they deserve it. Anyone care to disagree?
@67
I’ve been to France twice and never once been treated rudely. I have seen dozens of obnoxious Americans, pouting, complaining and being rude. I even heard one say to a tour guide “oh, you owe us for WWII”.
France had an inferior military going into WWII. They simply weren’t prepared. It has nothing to do with surrendering or “letting them through” when you are about to be crushed by King Kong (the German war machine was in full stride going into France, without the war in the east). France had more caualities in WW1 than the US, UK, Canada and Australia combined. They fight when they are prepared. In WWII they were not.
Us Americans/Brits like to pretend we “saved” France and spew that garbage out at any chance we get. In actuality, we fought German scrubs in france. The bulk of their meanest, best, most experienced soldiers were too busy in Russia, where the majority of WWII took place. The landing at Normandy was great, but Germany’s fall had already started (even with the odds against them, with the full force of the Anglo countries coming into France, the Germans were still able to mount a momumental counter-attack during the Battle of the Bulge). The Germans were one badass military and its hard to fault the French for falling to that Juggernaut .
If D-Day had never happened, the Germans would have eventually withdrawn from France to save their homeland from the Russians. If anything, Russia saved France.
yeah so they gave up, and let every one else fight.

Your post is great! I wholly agree with it’s points.
But i’m afraid you made there one, big and significant mistake.
Using “spaces” in filenames is VERY, VERY BAD suggestion!!!
Never, ever should files intended for electronic distribution be with spaces in them!
Unfortunately the way various OS filesystems are built, spaces in file names are very little supported and a lot of software (mainly network/distribution ones) cant handle them properly!
Everyone who whenever intends for their created file to be moved around through some networks, should always
– !!ALWAYS!! –
use some character to replace spaces in filenames to make the name as one piece!
@CuBe
“Of course it’s sold for leech, but this is something that’s never talked about.”
It has been that way for a very long time. More than 20 years ago, I and a couple of friends, for a small amount received every week a large box filled with floppy disks with all the Amiga warez releases that were uploaded to one of the major Amiga/PC Warez BBSes (and the WHQ/EHQ of quite some famous groups from those days. e.g. Fairlight, Paradox, Quartex, Razor 1911).
In the days of 14k4/21k6 modems this was however the only way to get that amount of warez without leaving your house or using CCs or ‘public’ university dial-outs

all those people saying bad things about France and/or the French are either jealous or incults.because they have a better way of life/food/country/people,etc…doesn’t mean they are cowards or anything.they are trying to protect what they have and are renowned for.
reading such inepties remind me of the nazis talking about the jews in the same way.
maybe the british ARE nazis in disguise ( a bad one though ).
long live France and the French and don’t give up the fight against idiots and ignorance.
the French have saved the americans from the english…the scots from the english ( the english again? )…and the english from the germans ( thanks to the resistance ) and still the english ( not all of them, thank god some are more intelligent ) have the cheek to say they have saved the french from the germans?
if it wasn’t for france and it’s involvement through it’s resistance the whole europe would be speaking german by now.i’m not saying the english were incapable or anything ( far from me saying that )with all my respects going to the soldiers who fought and gave their lives so bravely to help freeing france from their invaders.it’s just that some people don’t know what they are talking about and they give a wrong image of this country’s population.
sorry for being so long but my heart is so sad when i read all these racists comments ( because that’s what they are, let’s be honnest).
peace to all and get rid of the incults who don’t have a clue of what they are talking about and make a bad reputation of honorable people.

The subject is the french scene, and I guess French teams are not useless for example the Team CarNaGe was the first team to release a CAM the day of the launching of the last Indiana Jones. So they have provide to the us scene some video!! I mean some of the Canadian and french teams have more balls than in the US scene !
PS: Anyway the picture of your article is so funny
