Free Skype for iPhone with WiFi calls tomorrow
Skype, the popular voice, video, and instant messaging chat software parented by eBay is reportedly coming to the iPhone App Store tomorrow as a free download. When a user’s iPhone is connected to a Wi-Fi network, they will be able to use their Skype account to make free Skype-to-Skype voice calls, send instant messages, and make outbound calls to other mobile devices or landlines for a fee. Just a week ago, Skype 3.0 launched in beta for Windows Mobile. A version for BlackBerry will be released as well in May, and versions for Symbian and Android are expected to follow.
These versions will differ from the commonly-found Skype Lite client, which allows Skype voice calls — and little else — to be placed over regular cellular networks. This version has already found its way onto most mobile operating systems. The Skype for iPhone interface offers five tabs along the bottom of the screen for open chats, chat history, a dialer, “my info,” and contact information. The software automatically integrates the phone’s address book into its contact list for SkypeOut calls. Skype will be competing against Truphone, which has been available for the iPhone since last year and offers similar functionality.

I've got iphone YAY!
too bad for you
wow, apple is years ahead of their time, NOT. This is like their *NEW* copy-paste function, welcome to 2009 iphone users.
Finally!!!!
we are be able to make free phone calls so,there will be no money for phone company, are they gonna argee with it?
Sweet, now if they would do the same for Palm.
Hey, anyone knows in wich country the iphone is the cheapest?
(the sim-free version of course)
the big question is if using skype will still use minutes. many SIP services work, but still require a functional cell function. if this skype client only needs an ethernet connection, than ipod touch owners will be able to make calls and unlocked iphone users will be able to purchase a min minutes SIM card.
skype has a worldwide flat rate of $8 USD per month… its on baby if this client does not need a cell carrier to function.
WITH SUBSCRIPTION YOU CAN USE SKYPE TO GO
use fring for chat over wifi it rules works superb on my N95 http://www.fring.com/
LOL, my KRZR automatically connects to WiFi hotspots and I make free local calls. No need for Skype unless I want to call LD, but thats already cracked app for my HTC Smartphone anyway; have been able to do that for 2 years now.
With A&W having WiFi within reach of my home, all my calls from home are free.
Thanks Apple for changing the world! LOL, too baaaaaad, one day they'll catch up with the rest of the world and thier minions will follow like good little sheeple.
LOL at Applesauce for living that close to an A&W.
Fring is the best, forget the Skype.
@8 Sorry to sound dumb, but how does the Ipod Touch make calls? Where is the mic? Do you have to buy the headphones with mic?
I found this mic at target that works with my ipod touch 2g and it only costs $10. It's called Philips iphone microphone adapter.

You have to plug your headset on top of the adapter to make phone calls. The headset itself servers as a mic. I used it with recording softwares which works great.
The problem is fring's skype sound quality is not that good, so I was not able to really use it to make phone calls.
I notice it doesn't mention the iPod touch. I'm assuming it'll work (with a headphone mic)?
What's interesting is WiFi skype phones are in the $100+ range, but if i can just use a touch, it's so much better than carrying an extra device when out of the house.
Im gonna be pissed if this is only from the USA.
