Released to coincide with the tenth anniversary of Frank Sinatra’s passing (May 14, 1998), Nothing But The Best salutes “The Voice” with an essential single-disc compilation of hits. It features 21 legendary songs from “The Chairman Of The Board,” plus a previously unissued version of “Body And Soul.” The collection is part of an international initiative between the newly created Frank Sinatra Enterprises (FSE), Warner Home Video, MGM Home Entertainment, Turner Classic Movies, and the United States Postal Service to honor Frank Sinatra, whose music and movies had an everlasting impact on popular culture. For a limited time, Nothing But The Best will contain a collectible, commemorative Sinatra stamp with official USPS first-day issue cancellation.
Francis Albert Sinatra (December 12, 1915 – May 14, 1998) was an American jazz-oriented popular singer and Academy Award-winning actor. Beginning his musical career in the swing era with Harry James and Tommy Dorsey, Sinatra became a solo artist with great success in the early to mid-1940s, being the idol of the “bobby soxers”. His professional career had stalled by the 1950s, but it was reborn in 1954 after he won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor.

A lot of male singers careers stalled in the early 1950s, at the time when female singers became the mode for fronting swing bands. Dinah Washington, Ella Fitzgerald, Sarah Vaughn and others first made their names during that time. I wasn’t aware that Sinatra got caught up in the sweep too, probably because the time gap was so short thanks to the launch of his movie career.
