Four Months Three Weeks and Two Days 2007 DVDRip XviD-RHD

A Romanian movie Four Months Three Weeks and Two Days with outstanding rating at IMDB has been released in a new dvdrip by (most likely non-scene) group RHD. The original name of this drama is “4 luni, 3 saptamani si 2 zile” and it can boast with a spectacular numbers: 1 nomination for Grammy, 10 film awards (including The best film of Cannes) and 3 other nominations. The audio of this 2 CD release is Romanian and there are no English subtitles so it’s not too useful but I believe someone will translate it pretty soon.

Otilia and Gabita share the same room in a student dormitory. They are colleagues at the University in this small town in Romania, during the last years of communism. Otilia rents a room in a cheap hotel. In the afternoon, they are going to meet a certain Mr. Bebe. Gabita is pregnant, abortion is illegal and neither of them have passed through something like this before. 4 months, 3 weeks & 2 days belongs to a larger project called: Tales from the Golden Age - a subjective history of communism in Romania told through its urban legends. The project’s aim is to talk about that period with no direct reference to communism but only through different stories focused on personal options in a time of misfortunes that people had to live like normal times.

Quote from the comments section of Newtorrents.info:
“CD2 is undersized (629 mb) and no subtitles included
Video Encoding quality is bad.I’m not complaining, because it’s free & all, but let’s hope a proper release comes around.”
May be a scene group will release PROPER DVDRip tomorrow. This movie deserves to be watched in better quality.

    @ Florin

Sorry but there is no such thing as beautiful Romanian cinema. I watched ‘Second Hand’. So hyped up and the biggest pile of cr@p ever. ‘California Dreamin’ is a cheap ‘quirky’ movie that tries to imitate Kosturica but is pathetic. This one is just a commie bashing, abortion idealising snoozefest, talk, talk and more talk. So what that it got many awards? They were by Europeans that usually love these turgid small scale movies where nothing really happens.

Don’t get me wrong, I enjoy these types occasionally but they have to be on a more interesting subject and better written than this.

Proud to be Romanian right here and would rather be Romanian than American any day. I live in Canada and not ashamed of telling anyone where I’m from. Considering that if you say you’re American outside American chances are you’re gonna get shot anyways.

So, don’t be hating on a culture rich with awesome traditions (especially Christmas traditions), amazing food, and beautiful women, just because your American Christmas consists of getting the best deals on Boxing Day, because your Christmas food consists of McDonalds and because your women are fat and ugly.

Anyways, the movie is great. This and California Dreamin’ have helped Romanian Cinema gain some respect, especially in this world where the Hollywood factory is pulling out mostly garbage.

I’m living in Galati at the moment, been here for a year so I am qualified to know what a sh-thole Romania is! The people are fine, but the country is not!Precisely the government of thieves and scum and the corruption at every level where you have to bribe everyone for anything.

    EDUCATION LESSON HERE
Listen people - Some people might not know where Romania is but I guarentee everyone has heard of Transylvania - And that is located in Romanin - I have visited Romania before - And althugh it is still recovering from it’s long and sad communist period which ended it in 1989 it is really a beautiful place.

I assume this movie takes place during the time right before Nicolae Ceauşescu reign ended where he forced women to have babies and live in slums - When he made abortion illegal and the orphanages were overcrowded - Children were living in sewers and the country refused to reconized the existance of their AIDs epidemic - He also drained the national economy building the world’s second largest build behind the Pentagon “Palace of the Parliament” (which is very beautiful, ive been inside it)

His own guards turned against him on Christmas Day 1989 and they held a trial and then put him to death. It was broadcast on TV and the country celebrated. I think to this day still every year on TV they rebroadcast his execution on Christmas Day.

So when we read in the original post…
“The project’s aim is to talk about that period with no direct reference to communism but only through different stories focused on personal options in a time of misfortunes that people had to live like normal times”

I think it would make watching this movie a little more thought provoking to know what I just typed above since most people do not have a clue about the history of Romania.

    December 17th, 2007 | 20:02

@ But that doesn’t make the people like that. Some scumbags don’t make a country. Even though I must agree with the fact that Romania is waaaaaaaaay far from a so called “civilization” I must say every time I leave my home, which is in ROMANIA, I can’t wait to go back.

So…even though you’re Romanian or some other “species” don’t talk like that just because thing look this way. If you’re smart enough, watch behind the glass mate, there’s so much out there that’ real and human, unlike other so called great countries like the US.

And….do you REAAAAAALLY think that in the U.S …or U.K … governants are doing good things to their people? /:) YEAH RIGHT…

  60. Johns
    December 17th, 2007 | 20:18

    Another new lesson about Romania:
Some of the romanian youth believes that it was better when Ceausescu ruled.
Most are proud of their own stupidity(it’s not a metaphore,it’s the truth)
Recent national tests were catastrophic failure.School education is at it’s lowest.
Even though our economy has the potential to grow, the idiots in power are not taking advantage of it.
We have brilliant doctors bot horrific hospitals.
As a matter of fact it is said that the second spoken language in Microsoft is Romanian meaning Romania cannot give proper paid jobs to it’s people.(80% of the salary is too f*ing much).
Bribary is something normal. If you don’t bribe someone he probably will try to hurt you(Ex:At the national tests, there were schools that did not bribe the inspectors and the result was that 12% of the pupils passed the tests)
And many, many more reasons that make Romania a deplorable country.Blame the politicians, blame the people, blame yourself but don’t hate some1 simply because he says the truth as he sees it.!

  61. jb
    December 17th, 2007 | 20:33

@61: This applies to any post-communist country anyways… The big thing is that, even almost 20 years after communism ended, theres still a lot of people who think that life was better in the old days. Seems like half the population is still trying to live like they used to before revolution, which sucks, cos they all are easy to be fooled by various leftist populists and another bastards, offering easy but non-working solutions. Guess that this is the biggest difference between east and west.

Well said, and I have to say that my nick I used is just to wind up all those Romanian ‘patriots’ that come here gloating how great Romania is while here in Galati all I see is everyone aping the US and complaining how the country sucks and how they can’t wait to flee! I think ‘Death to this Romanian mentality’ most of all, not to the peasants themselves. Though seeing all those rich scum that bribed their way to wealth or through ex-securitate etc. connections and who are driving round their Cadillacs and Hummers round here, I say Death to them!

    @jb
Well I’m from Poland and it was a much milder form of communism that was actually quite liberal and not that bad.Don’t believe the propaganda. We emigrated legally in 1982 at a time when it was said that noone could legally leave etc cause of martial law, repression etc. This is all bull.Biggest problem in Poland was having to send much of the goods to the USSR as they were really running the nation into the ground, thus leaving shortages in Polish shop. There was much good under communism that they unnecessarily got rid of along with the bad, Poland and other Eastern European countries were fooled by the Western thieves that wanted to buy up and strip the nations of all they had for a few pennies and the corrupt leaders like the ‘hero’ Walesa and Havel etc. let them. Eastern europe should have turned into socialist democracies like the Nordic countries, not throw everyone to the wolves where those in power monopolised everything.

The biggest thing about socialist democracies is that they either have a big, specific source of income (such as gas/oil in norway), or they are simply eating through the savings of previous, non-socialist governments. Our problem is, that we in the post-commie parts of europe simply have neither any savings from before nor any external source of wealth. Talking generally, only thing that could rise the national income is (at least by now) cheap labor…
About the old regimes, im not quite sure about how was it in poland, but here in czech republic, there was only a little chance to get anywhere for most of people. My parents were decided *antiregime* and they even couldnt travel to another east-block countries. As you said, there were shortages of everything, only culture was the one approved by the party(so we did not have led zepp, we had dean reed instead:), life basically sucked if you though just a bit differently than those in power. Communism never brought anything good to my country…
Of course, there is a lot of countries that underwent bad transition and ended up unstable and possibly worst off than before (take Russia…), but i still kinda think that this is caused by the commie leftovers deep in peoples minds

True to an extent but look at Finland and Sweden for example, not much natural resources and the boom times for these countries continue with socialist benefits. I can see that you inherited your parents’ anti-communist ideals, but you have to see that the ideal of communism is actually very noble and workable if you shake off the western propaganda that it isnt. It only isn’t workable if you follow the market economy model, which clearly you wouldn’t. It wouldn’t conform to those rules.

As for not being able to say and do anything, at least in Poland according to my grandparents, they said that they never were restricted in what they could do or say, so long as you didnt really agitate for overthrowing the government(but then such a thing is banned in the west if it goes too far too). Their biggest gripe was the difficulty in spending money they earnt. Everyone had a lot of money, but there was bugger all to buy in shops because of the corruption at the top and the export to Soviet Union. Corrupt officials would hoard the goods meant for consumer shops and sell them themselves on black market for profit. I believe that it was the unnacountability of the rulers that really screwed up any chance communism may have had, the way it was modelled on Stalinist lines(meaning the party could not be questioned or infallible) meant that those at top were corrupted easily and really didn’tgive a toss bout communism or creating a better society. It was just to line their pockets.

To Chris Hartgraves: Transylvania was broken up between Romania and Hungary by the imperialist victors after WWI. It had previously been part of the Austro-Hungarian Empire, in whose army my grandpa served before coming to the States. Later, the Jews were turned over to the Nazis. There was nothing left of my family there.

Please don’t confuse Stalinism, especially the demented form practiced in Romania, with communism; i.e., learn some history.

Its not true that every former communist state is now totally corrupted. There are expection to that rule for example Estonia, Slovenia, DDR etc. In Croatia things also worked well in general.

Here’s a tip for you Europeans:

The STUPIDEST Americans are also usually the LOUDEST Americans.

So, if you have some douchebag slagging off other countries on the internet, or on TV, or wherever - don’t think he represents most Americans. He represents the biggest idiots among Americans.

I’m sick of feeling embarrassed because of the stupidity of my neighbors. I truly wish they’d just shut up.

Capitalism and Communism are both failed systems. We need to get over the idea of economic determinism and create a new system based on something other than capital.

Im from Finland so thanks to our grandfathers we didnt have experience communism. We saw it very close anyway happening to our neighbours.

People who judge other countries are ignorant and stupid. There are good and bad sides in every country. Each person should be judgeg only by his/hers own deeds not by some stereotypes.

Romanians for example are not slavic people but they are same ethnic “root” that the French people are. Nobody would call France a country with no civilization. Maybe some neo-cons but thats a different story.

Anyway will watch that movie and I personally have only good experiences from Romanian people, I know one artist family from there. Maybe travel there someday also.

There are also ways to live between total capitalism and socialism. Its called socialdemocracy and wellfare state.

“The STUPIDEST Americans are also usually the LOUDEST Americans.”

On the other hand, I am emberrassed by the people who generalize people Americans like that. Also people who are saying that people from the US should know all the countries from Europe, I ask them: Do you know all the states from the US? I think not. Do you know all Asian, Middle eastern OR Latin America countries? I’m very sure you do not.
So please stop judging people, especially when you’re not any better yourself. You’re only making a fool out of yourself.

    Thanks.

It wasn’t thanks to your grandfathers that Finland didn’t become communist, but Cold War diplomacy. Your grandfathers’ were defeated by the Soviets: marginally in 1939 and decisively in 1944, so particularly after 1944, Stalin could have imposed anything he wanted on Finland.

I guess we wont agree on this one… Basic idea of communism surely sounds nice, but it was proven not to work. Ideas of system based on something else than market and money have always been wrong, simply because it is in human nature to always demand more. Democratic capitalism is the only working system, because it puts these demand of each person into market, making the people try harder to get more. By that, the whole society moves forwards…

    Dear iNCQRiT:

    stupidest

    1. Superlative of stupid; most stupid.

    http://www.thefreedictionary.com/stupidest

Languages simplify over time, and this superlative form of ’stupid’ is now commonly accepted. But, if we’re going to be petty, you should note that it’s spelled “embarrassed.” (Nothing personal).

And I know my geography pretty well, as I believe most Americans (and people of other nationalities) should.

The point I’m making is (for those dumb enough to judge an entire culture by the few examples they come into contact with) one is far more likely to encounter the stupidest American - because they’re the loudest, and the most likely to voice their opinons in public forums. I hope that the majority of people are aware that Americans aren’t some monolithic monoculture, but I’m also aware the majority of people from ANY culture are going to be idiots. Stupidity is the way of the world.

Frankly, I’d be in favor of doing away with nationality entirely. But, if you have very little to be proud of personally, you’re going to be much quicker to loudly proclaim the superiority of your country/religion/ideology.

  99. DeathtoRomanians(irony)
    December 18th, 2007 | 00:46

    @ jb
Depends what you believe is human nature. It’s just capitalists, ruling elites, along with organised religion that tries to suggest that human nature is greed, evil, getting ahead at the expense of others etc, for it justifies and legitimises their own existance and continuation of their own agendas. I don’t believe that that is man’s inherent nature as it certainly isn’t mine and I’ve been bombarded with capitalism and protestant work ethic propaganda from school and society since the age of 6 and I certainly haven’t had any desire to advance myself at the expense of my fellow man.

Society doesn’t move forward through capitalism as capitalism promotes instant gratification for its adherents but when you see one person with a billion dollars and many more with 20 000 a year from a hard working job even with a degree etc. it fails to deliver for the vast majority the same benefits. Capitalism could only flourish by linking it to the protestant work ethic, which encourages abstinence from gratification and hard work for which the person is rewarded in some unspecified time in the future. Capitalism thus is a fraud, an unstable entitiy that only exists by perpetuating certain myths that benefit it and which uses various western ideologies to prop up its inherent unfairness.

Finally, the laws of finite resources contradict capitalism, as capitalism envisions eternal growth in a finite world, a pure fallacy. Eventually the resources will run out and the markets for goods will be saturated, and then what?
