Formula 1: Hamilton disqualified from Australian GP

I dont usually post Off-topic/Tech news kind of stuff but i thought there would be quite a few people interested in this since the previous F1 post had a nice and positive response. Click source link below for the full story.

Lewis Hamilton has been stripped of his third place finish in the season-opening Australian Grand Prix after the world champion and his team were judged to have provided ‘misleading’ evidence during a post-race stewards’ hearing.

The British driver had finished fourth on the road, but was moved up a position when original third place finisher Jarno Trulli was handed a 25-second penalty for having overtaken Hamilton behind the safety car.

However, following the discovery of new evidence, believed to be radio transmissions from the Toyota and McLaren teams, the race stewards convened a fresh hearing in Malaysia this afternoon to discuss the matter.

It is believed the radio transmissions contradicted the original statements presented to the stewards by Hamilton and McLaren.

Sorry dot, but this is so far off from anything rlslog originally wanted to post I just thought I'd say something. Not only is Formula 1 marginally popular, posting about one very specific aspect of it on a scene release site makes no sense.

F1 is actually very popular check the comments in the F1 race from last week ;)

Thats why i posted it in the Off Topic area mate because its not about a "Scene release".

@ 1 – you don't have a clue so shouldn't comment. 55 Million people on average watch each live race, it's also the world's most expensive sport yet has survived for how long now? So, yes, no one cares about it.

As for Hamilton, this is a shame but it's all very confusing. The number of allegations in the past against him/Mclaren, I really wonder what goes on behind the scenes mclaren. Either way, it annoys me to see again see Hamilton the one worst affected.

Hamiliton was cheated, again… has Jarno been given back the points?… not seen anything about that yet on any blog or news… if he has, it stinks as he, even if Lewis, like a gentleman obeyed his teams orders and waved him past even as he knew his pass was legit as Jarno had made the error and gone of the track… the footage is on YouTube…

Thanks for the post. Why people moan when they come on this site for links to free stuff i do not and will never understand, if you don't want to read a link not to your taste… don't click on it… really easy… and why are idiots brave on the internet?… because its the only place they can be! ; )

    @Dot – thanks for the F1 update.
I can't say that I am surprised to see Hamilton punished…the feed posted here is the one that had Hammy's quote about being ordered to let Jarno pass. It seems that McLaren/Hamilton got punished for lying to the stewards, which, if true seems justified. They obstructed/misled the stewards who were trying to enforce safety rules. Jarno gets 3rd and McLaren gets a tough lesson in honesty, though I don't believe they understood the lesson…
"The Team mistakenly believed that the radio transmissions had been reviewed by the FIA on Sunday 29th March 2009, and consequently did not believe it was necessary to discuss them with the Stewards on that date."-official F1 website

I'am not the biggest fan of Lewis but you do have to admit he's a good pilot. But he's still young, alot of time to improve. I just dont understand why Maclaren tried a cheap shot, when Lewis started at 18th and "finished" 4th place. Its a great result and just to show that Ron Dennis is getting crazy by the day.

    Transcript of McLaren radio transmission
    Thursday, April 2nd 2009, 13:14 GMT

Transcript of the radio transmission between Lewis Hamilton and McLaren during the Australian Grand Prix:

Team: OK Lewis, you should need to make sure your delta is positive over the safety car line. After the safety car line the delta doesn't matter but no overtaking. No overtaking.

Lewis Hamilton: The Toyota went off in a line at the second corner, …, is this OK?

Team: Understood, Lewis. We'll confirm and get back to you.

LH: He was off the track. He went wide.

Team: Lewis, you need to allow the Toyota through. Allow the Toyota through now.

    LH: OK.

LH: He's slowed right down in front of me.

Team: OK, Lewis. Stay ahead for the time being. Stay ahead. We will get back to you. We are talking to Charlie.

LH: I let him past already.

Team: OK, Lewis. That's fine. That's fine. Hold position. Hold position.

LH: Tell Charlie I already overtook him. I just let him past.

Team: I understand Lewis. We are checking. Now can we go to yellow G 5, yellow Golf 5.

LH: I don't have to let him past I should be able to take that position back, if he made a mistake.

Team: Yes, we understand Lewis. Let's just do it by the book. We are asking Charlie now. You are in P4. If you hold this position. Just keep it together.

Team: OK Lewis, your KERS is full, your KERS is full. Just be aware. You can go back to black F2, black Foxtrot 2.

LH: Any news from Charlie whether I can take it back or not.

Team: Still waiting on a response Lewis, still waiting.

Team: Lewis, work on your brakes please. Front brakes are cold.

Team: If we are able to use one KERS that would be good. If you deploy KERS please do so now.

Team: OK, Lewis, this is the last lap of the race. At the end of the lap the safety car will come in, you just proceed over the line without overtaking, without overtaking. We are looking into the Trulli thing, but just hold position.

I'm all for added general interest stories on the site.

I read a bunch of articles about this story today and I'm still not sure what happened. It seems to come down to Trulli going off the road under the safety car, Hamilton passes unsure if he's allowed to or not since Trulli went off, then Hamilton slows way down to encourage Trulli to pass him back, the stewards punish Trulli for that and promote Hamilton.

Where the lies come in I'm not sure but it's more BS that F1 just doesn't need. Despite the success of last season the sport's organisers did everything they could to damage the reputation of the sport. Yes, someone in Mclaren was convicted of receiving Ferrari data, from someone in Ferrari, but there were several other incidents during the same season of teams, including Ferrari, having data from other teams, and yet… nothing about those.

It's well-known in F1 circles that Ferrari can do whatever they want. When I was living in England I knew a couple of engineers on the Williams team. The whole system needs shaking up, FIA and F1 management need to be changed, the whole sport is run like a dictatorship. For F1 the inconsistencies and back room dealings are making a mockery of the sport.

Seems to me though that if what one poster said that they are looking to exclude McLaren and Hamilton from the entire Championship – they will have to look at replacing the FIA – I'm not a Lewis fan – but he does seem to be getting a raw deal from the Stewards and the FIA when it comes to some decisions. And if Mr Ferrari Todt takes over from Mosley then McLaren might as well pack up and race in America as no decision will go for them.

  58. trist
    April 2nd, 2009 | 21:13

I sure hope the idiots (Ecclestone+Mosley)/FIA do not disqualify McLaren from the whole season. I see the justification in DQ from Australia for scamming the stewards as they let Trulli pass and then claimed Trulli violated the rules. Losing 6 points is not much and it sends a message to the teams that scamming the stewards for race results will not be tolerated. But throwing out the team like they did fir Stepneygate is massive overkill. Perhaps FIA should look in house and question why the stewards were not given the recordings of the Team radio feeds for the time in question as evidence, when the FIA had them in their possession??? It seems to me, FIA is equally responsible in creating this mess by preventing qualified (permanent) stewards from reviewing ALL the data before rendering a verdict. Toyota got played and McLaren + FIA were all too willing to watch until the media took notice. Chalk one up for a free press! Oops, they might be banned from the next race for questioning the authority of Ecclestone/Mosley.

Good folks @ RLSLOG, you go ahead and post whatever the fck you want to post about. This site is great and is FREE. Whoever complains can go ask their idiot cousin for release news.

Regarding Hamilton, well, he has been the center of controversy since he showed up in F1. Those of us that have followed the sport for a decade or more can't remember a driver anywhere near as dubious, whinning, or self-entitled. Sure, if you read the transcription of the radio and then what McLaren/Hamilton said, it is easy to see they lied through their teeth to steal a podium. But it doesn't matter. The list of cheats is as long as the last two championships.

All of this is an inmense pity becuase Hamilton could have become one of the greats… instead he is quickly becoming a great fraud and joke. Yes, you can blame Ron Dennis for it all. He created the monster that killed the driver.
