Folkearth - Father of Victory [2007]

Here is a band I had never heard of before. Since I love metal bands that have a strong folk influence (such as Ensiferum, Falconer, Turisas) I thought I’d give this album a try. Its basically very epic “Viking Metal” with rather simplistic guitar work and a lot of focus on vocals (Even though the Gravewish NFO states the genre as simply Black Metal lol). This band is a collection of members from many folk metal bands all over Europe. Altogether 20 people were involved in the making of this album. So far there is no GRAVEWISH version of this album on a public tracker, but some rs links are bound to appear.

The main topic of Folkearth lyrical side are ancient history, beliefs and mythology, nordic mostly, but also celtic/greek. Folkearth songs are story telling and their purpose is to entertain, not to carry symbolic or personal message. Because of the complex structure, Folkearth never performed live, and it’s unlikely to happen in the future.

Another one of ‘those’ metal bands…

It’s always sad to see some lanky long haired man dressed up in armor holding a fake sword.

Thanks. Collaboration albums like these aren’t done that often, and when they are, they’re usually damn good.

Folkmetal sucks. I checked their myspace just to give them a chance, but it just made me hate this type of metal more. The production of this cd is extreme crap btw.

Can’t believe you never heard of this band, since this is already their 4th release. Not one of the best in the genre however, but still worth the download. But then again what isn’t, seeing as it’s all free anyway.

This is total crap and I usually like this stuff. “Its basically very epic “Viking Metal” with rather simplistic guitar work and a lot of focus on vocals” This is misleading since the vocals suck!

CLUTCH are the disciples of rock, spreading the word. this stuff is flotsam in comparison.

I am against the posting of album releases on rlslog but for the first time someone put up an album that is relevant to my interests.

My random band recommendation is Equilibrium for cheesy but fun keyboard driven viking metal.
