Firefox 3: 8 million downloads already
Firefox 3, the recently released open source browser from Mozilla, has claimed that over 8 million copies of the software were downloaded on Download Day. The company stated early that their goal was to surpass the initial release of Firefox 2, at 1.6 million downloads in 24 hours, and hit 5 million downloads. The goal of the marketing campaign is to set a Guinness World Record for most downloaded software in a single day. A few days have passed and, barring the server downtime that plagued users for a few hours, the results look promising for Mozilla’s world record attempt. According to the official Mozilla blog, Firefox 3 easily cruised past 5 million user downloads. “We exceeded 8 million downloads in our 24 hour period,” the blog states. Downloads were tracked from 11:16am PDT on June 17th to 11:16am PDT on the following day.
The next step in the process is for Firefox 3 to be certified by Guinness World Records. To help get their audit logs in order, Mozilla has brought on two external judges: Paul Vixie, of the Internet Systems Consortium, and Corey Shields, of the University of Indiana’s University of Information Technology Services. Once the two judges and Mozilla feel confident that their download logs are in order, they will be handed over to the people at Guinness World Records for verification. If the attempt is verified, Firefox 3 will be the first recipient of the most software downloaded in a single day record. The process of having a record certified by Guinness can take two different paths. If Mozilla chooses not to expedite the service, the results will be released in four to six weeks. On the other hand, if the company opts for Fast Review, the results could be available in three days from the time the logs are submitted.

WOW nice job, i no im in that 8 mill
…AHA….its not so much better than FF2…i am 8000001
FF3 is must better then FF2!
They make software which is so popular it gets downloaded 8milllion times in 24 hours and they worry about a little record? -Which is easily gonna be broken by any software in the future since there will simply be more internet users..
guinness is a joke, and i dont mean the beer.
nice, but i still stick with my opera
Opera is much better that this lame Firefox…
@6
When did you last use firefox? Seriously.
i love microsoft internet explorer. its so cool
why use third party software when you got the security of IE, it also updates to download patches etc
you guys are all fooled by this fox thingo
actually closer to 14 millions now http://downloadcounter.sj.mozilla.com/
Unfortunately i’m thinking to switch from Safari to FF3
Shame that most of the new features in 3 just screws it up..
“IE, it also updates to download patches etc”
Firefox does the same…
guys if i install this does it keep all my old bookmarks and settings from v2? and are addons like noscript all compatible with v3?
Firefox 3 is great but mine has crashed on me 3 times, on heavy use, but i think it has something to do with flash embebedd videos.
./firefox %
@13
yes it will keep your bookmarks and addons
I switched to opera a few months back because whenever I would download a large file with firefox, it would always crash for a few minutes when it got to 100%. Firefox would also freeze up my computer and use 99% CPU when I open up too many tabs or more than 3 flash videos at once. This doesn’t happen with opera. I tried the latest version yesterday and both of those glitches still happen to me…
@13…it will keep all addons and bookmarks but some themes havent beeen updated yet.
aquatint black gloss+adblock plus+flashgot+bbcodextra= win
@7: Yesterday, used to try it. And its not worth it.
15 & 17
cheers!
Opera for me its better..
So fast
lol don’t forget to delete the ‘most visited’ tab! that could be quite embarrassing..
Nerds keeping track of all the wrong things FTW!

If there were no other third party browsers, you were stuck with a crappy version of IE. Thanks to FF, Opera, Safari, … IE became what it is today. On the other hand, i can’t find one single reason why people should use the built-in IE browser instead of FF, Opera, …
Before you upgrade export your bookmarks as a precaution.
I did show my support by downloading and installing.. but all my extensions ans themes were incompatible…
Same happened when ff2 came out, but this time the themes are incompatible just because that horrid new back/forward Frankenstein button..
i prefer Opera. Lighter on resources and does everything i want in a browser. Plus, it is easier to customize than Firefox.
besides the add ons not working (but they have already fixed a few) its no different then ff2.
I was the first downloader (H)
Omg, 8 million people downloaded a free, 7MB file on the same day? Wow, that must mean something, because obviously nobody risks wasting so much bandwidth on something they might not like these days! Hey, MicroSoft says that 120 million copies of Vista were sold the first year, that probably makes it the best OS ever made, right?
ive been using this sicne the release day and i have to say im very impressed – its a lot quicker at loading pages than 2 was! the only downside is theres a few addons and themes that arent compatable yet
Didn’t see anything new in FF3 that is not in Opera 9.5
@28
Do you know nothing? FF 3 has been completely rebuild from the ground up. Did you not even to bother to read the changes that Mozilla have made to 3.0? Read it here and THEN tell me is the same as 2:
http://www.mozilla-europe.org/en/firefox/3.0/releasenotes/
FF3[or 2]>IE[all version]
IE is the worst browser on the planet and anyone using it should be shot!
Best FF Add-On EVER = Adblock Plus. It will block almost every ad on the internet and you can block ANY images/flash/JS script you want. Get it from their home page:
http://adblockplus.org/en/
I didn’t even know that RLSLOG had ads until I reinstalled Vista and was using IE7 before I installed FF2 and Adblock.
Firefox sux
Firefox is so lame. It’s just a hype or a fashion. It’s just cool to say you have Firefox. Try Opera and see what the real browser is.
firefox 3 is great. haters face the truth.
guys, it’s really good to see freeware faring so well. myself, i’m an opera guy. using the 9.5 now and I must say that it really pleases me. the only problems are some webpages that appear to not have been well optimized for it. Also, when it comes to e-banking, i have to use IE… sad, but true.
And yes, i know how to edit opera’s preferences for a specific webpage (identify as IE) but it just isn’t working. any ideas?
long live OPERA, and Firefox too.
i have tried both, firefox and opera. i but i like firefox much more. i use it since the early betas.
for me, best things came with FF3 are
1. great memory management . ( ff2 was memory eater ) .
2. speed .
for ff2 add-on, when u install ff3 over ff2, most of your add-on will break( bookmarks are safe, tested ) , there is a faq on the net how to avoid it , google it .
FF3.0 and Opera 9.5 are amazing browsers, it’s amazing to see how much they progressed these last years.
Still need IE for certain websites, the sad thing is it’s always for supposedly very secure sites, something’s wrong here don’t you think?
These addons work for me in FF3(some are patched*, others are betas from official sites, others already work)

People complaining about FF3 chewing up there memory should upgrade there lame pc’s!
If you can’t afford it,then you shouldn’t be using a pc at all!
Firefox sucks donkey balls! You’ve all been conned!
I laugh at n00bs that use Firefox. Keep using it
” ‘cuz everyone else is ”
IE8 FTW!
Don’t bother responding, I won’t be here to care!
FF2 was a memory eater.FF3 doesn’t have leaks anymore. At least for me is as fast and light as opera.Opera is great also.Screw ie that is a piece of ….M$ should do everybody a favour and stop developing it.
after Opera 9.50, FireFox 3 suxx, but still much better than IE
FF3 rocks.
Antyhing’s better than opera!
i’m still using ff2.. stupid “awesome bar” -_-
Nice map with number of downloads by countries:
http://www.spreadfirefox.com/en-US/worldrecord/
Firefox 3 was a big improvement in my opinion, no surprise at all @50 there is an add on for FF3 which basically goes back to the old FF2 bar if you wany
Expressing Own argument is okkk, bt hating others opinion is not a good habit.
This New Opera 9.50 Is 260% faster then previous 9.20.
This New FF3 Is 200% faster then FF2.
New IE 8 Beta is just awesome, it just have lots bug, so expect a great one when final version come.
Those r not my opnion, those r test result.
Bt one thing for sure All those new version use less, noticable low memeory to run.
I myself opened 10 same page in both FF3 & Opera 9.50. Opera used less then 100MB RAM memory while FF3 just over 100MB.
Bt Opera’s problem for webmaster or blogger is it dont have any function to save form other then logins and its just like ancient. BT both FF3 n IE8 is improved. And Opera handle CSS n scripting in different way, it cant do copy to clipboard for any media content as it loads in different way. Bt Opera is really faster. So its awesome For new and normal user.
ANd still all ASP n JSP script run awesome n faster in IE8.
So all is Much Improved.
Everyone has to try it, you’ll see exactly how fast everything loads, its ridiculously fast, RSlog loads instantly now compared to in 2 – 3 seconds in Firefox 2.0.11
There are no more memory leaks either.
THE ONLY PROBLEM IS: It STILL uses alot of memory, its supposed to use less, but infact it is much more then Firefox 2.0.11 and that does not mean Firefox 2.0.11 was any better at memory management.
Such a shame they can’t sort it out.
Are you guys saying their is a newer version of Internet Explorer…! I have Internet Explorer 1.0 running on my Windows 95 operating system…Guess I should check for updates..

Nicely said.

Hey! I was there!!!!
Works just fine as it used to and as it should
I’ll stick with Internet Exploder thanks!
Antyhing’s better than opera!
http://www.runescapewin.com
OPERA!!!!!! 9.50 is even better! Alt+D now functions as access to address bar, just as F8 does… Didn’t do that before.
IE 4 FTW LMAO
FF3 FTW!
@50
Try this:

or this:
http://www.sapiensbryan.com/index.php/how-to-disable-firefox-30-smart-location-bar/
@nzb ff3 does the same with ctrl + L, it also does this in ff2
@62 same in FF F6 alt+d IE has this too.
ff3 is way too expensive! AOL rocks my inner net and parvo say if it aint broke don;t fix . AOL is KING of dial it up and rlslog.net is queen of picture shows
LOL. All of the Opera post here seemingly — all 3 of them!
Firefox FTW.

east or west…………
firefox is the BEST
Some of you with your Opera vs Firefox need to be quiet. Worse than Linux users bickering between distros…really. Who cares? At least none of us are using Internet Exploder! That’s all that matters.
★★★RLSLogKing★★★ , wow, a real rebel. If it’s software that you use and like for free why would you purposely avoid helping them set a record? It was a one time deal, its not like your avoiding a trend. I feel ya though, your just too cool for school, and are going with that flock instead.
as a true brit would say, ‘who gives a S@#!t’ [monkeys]
opera 9.50 > FF 3.0
ANY DAY seriously i was using FF 3 it took 3-4 secs to load a page on my friends pc whilst opera rendered the page in 0.5 seconds
14mil dls 5hrs ago. im not one of them. woo opera.
it’sjust a browser…lol..better than IE however..too many hackers target IE cause it’s microsuck
Last time i tested Opera it didnt allow me to use a proper adblock since Opera IS AdFriendly company so i went back to FF and never looked back.
Firefox does it all and i don’t see any reason why i should move to Opera. With the possibility to add you own functions by addons its all i need.
Opera ppl, you should give it a try
After all its free!
Firefox 3 sucks!! I already rolled back to Firefox 2.0.0.14
well i use both opera and ff2 , for some things ff2 for some opera … i dont get it why ppl bother to argue about it , its stupid , if something can improve ur surfing why not usin it
peace
#81 nothing better to do with their lives I would imagine.
@65&66 The default windows function is ALT+D for this… FF does this as well. Opera didn’t do that till now. But the rest of opera is still rocking and kicking ass. Bout Ctrl+L.. hmm.. don’t like it. Hotkeys should be all about integration and universality (real word?).
That is all!
@vampyren
I’m not sure what you’re talking about…
Opera has its own ad-block thing built in and also blocks pop-ups by default. And they got rid of their ad banner a long time ago.
Anyway, the more web sites become standards supporting and work in ANY browser, the better the world will become. Then people can choose a browser based on its quality and now which sites have been made that prefer only certain browsers.
now -> not
