Finally: It’s Diablo III Baby!

Yes! This is happening. Thanks to Sp4rkR4t from the Forums for pointing me in the right direction. After many years, we finally get some screens and video footage of what is probably the most highly anticipated RPG of all time. Blizzard announced this new title at their World Wide Invitational in Paris. There is little info about the game so far apart from the game footage and screens, but below is an informative article. Be sure to leave a comment if you know anything we don’t ;)

Okay, that looks like fun. The exploding worm dude is nasty.

”Diablo III is first and foremost a co-operative game,” that’s the message from Blizzard. They’re not expecting you to play this on your own, so we’re looking at plenty of online options for slashing our way through those dungeons. The campaign is said to be of a similar length to that of Diablo II, with NPCs and story events taking place within the game world. The campaign will apparently feature a mixture of both randomly generated and hand-made static dungeons.

Diablo III is going to be delivered in a brand new, “real-physics” 3D engine developed by Blizzard. The game is so far confirmed for PC and Mac, and Blizzard have “no plans” at present to become console developers. It’s going to be supported by the revised version of Battlenet, which will go live with Starcraft II later this year.

PvP features are “planned” but there’s no information on them so far, and the same goes for trading items.

Barbarian and Witchdoctor classes have been seen so far, so that’s fighter and summoner-wizard-shaman-type fantasy archetypes covered.

The release date is “when it’s done”, but it’s traditional for announcement-to-release to be just under a year for Blizzard games, so we’re looking at having it in time for Christmas 2009. The title has already been in development for four years, so that’s looking like a fairly realistic guess.

    Most excellent news.

    Might I also recommend Dungeon Siege 1&2 to keep you amused till it arrives. Just finished them back to back.
    I’m sure they’re old news to a lot of RPG fans out there, but if you did miss them, you won’t be disapointed with the d/l.

    OMG!!!! Thank You for the GREAT news. I have yet to buy any game system cause they just don’t compare to my PC yet if they released D3 on any gaming system I would buy it in seconds! D2 rocked taking RPG to the level they did from D1 I can just imagine what the new engine will be like! Just another milestone for Blizzard. hahahahahhah Again TY for the info now I will be looking for new news about it daily till its relese. Wonder if Gamestop takes multiple years advance payment! hahahahahhahahaha

    Diablo III will be pretty cool. Better then WoW as long as u dont have to subscribe monthly payments like WoW. Thats one thing that throws of WoW. People cant or dont want to spend there money paying money over a time period just to play a game. Buying the $60+ game is already enough. Blizzards already rich enough i think more ppl would play their games if they didnt have a subscribtion.

    My god, They could have a multiplayer like Dota in a nice big 3D and have it backed up by a pve aventures for objects and xp.

    oh and also ik ppl are prob. going to say thats what makes diablo and i understand. but graphics. diablo II was alright. i didnt like how it was kinda zoomed out. personaly i like how WoW graphics are than Diablo II. so im hopeing that Diablo III will sort of in its own way be similar to WoW graphics by how u can zoom in and be in first person if u want. BUT in its own way somehow to make it better then WoW.

    All these people saying it won’t work on a console, please realise that the first diablo was on the PS1 as well as PC. It worked fine instead of using a mouse pointer you controlled te character directly using the pad, it even has 2 player mode on the same screen which was good.

    They should in my opinion make console versions of it, what have they got to lose. But for me I will be playing the PC version, although I did kinda like the control pad movement it worked quite well, but the mouse is better.

    As long is it isn’t a pay per second MMORPG this will be good.

    ok after watching the preview of playing the game. graphics still to me are good but not as good as it could be. all these games like WoW, metal of honor, gears of war, army of two. i like those graphics. there in person zoomed in, and the buildings arent on the ground to say. as in like in WoW. all the buildings and trees come to are there next to u not Below you when ur looking at it. i think it should be not only zoomed in but the camera should be how do i say it… more of a side view? like WoW and all the other games i mentioned. i like for the buildings to be tall and next to where i can see now below me. make it more realistic u can do it.

    Hellgate: London was so sad, I think that is part of the reason Blizzard is staying so close to the original Diablo’s graphical look and feel.

    console killer? i doubt that, just because console guys play some of the same games as pc doesnt mean we want to play pc games. nothing will take me off xbox live, playing computer games on public/private servers sucks, so many super nerds, cheaters and guys who spend 200+ hours playing a game. and rpg and mmo’s suck, cant stand any game that has me telling a group of whatever to attack someone elses what ever is to slow paced a game, i need action and the knowledge that i really did fire that bullet before the other guy. xbox/ps3=varsity sports computer games=chess team

    Just freaking awesome!

    I loved both the 1st and 2nd, now this is going to rock! I’m so glad I decided to move my game from Xbox 360 to PC, it’s getting so many good titles! can’t wait for others like Star Craft 2 and Red Alert 3!!

    I just hope that 2 ATI Radeon HD 4870’s in Crossfire will bring in the sweet graphics…

    You don’t have to be a computer geek to appreciate the news of Diablo 3. The original Diablo was revolutionary to the gaming industry and the second games was just as good if not better. No one knew if the series was dead but now hundreds of thousands of fans all over the world know now that this series is making a come back. Good for them.

    No offence, but there are more people who care about this game than don’t, you are severely outnumbered and your opinion is worthless.

    If you want nerdy, you should complain about WoW. I don’t see Release Log posting news stories about the new expansion pack, which is good as it’s not that big a deal in the gaming community, whereas Diablo 3 is.

    Do you complain when RLSLOG posts about some other news topics that you don’t care about? Or do you just pick on these games posts because you try to make yourself feel better by insulting gamers [in your own words "nerds"]? You must have really low self esteem to behave so lame.

    ALRIGHT!!! Countless hours of running around maps and portals collecting charms, armor, and weaponry only to have it hacked off you 10 minutes later by some punk-@ss. Oh well Diablo III huh?
