FBI investigating security breaches into DHS

The FBI is investigating allegations that foreign hackers repeatedly attacked dozens of computers at the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS), two Democratic lawmakers and an aide said on Monday. Mississippi Rep. Bennie Thompson has asked for an inquiry into the data breaches and questioned work done by information systems provider Unisys Corp to protect DHS from hackers. A Thompson aide said the FBI investigation is based on a committee probe that has been going on for several months. “The results of our investigation suggest that the department is the victim not only of cyber attacks initiated by foreign entities, but of incompetent and possibly illegal activity by the contractor charged with maintaining security on its networks,” the two lawmakers said in a statement.

In a September 21 letter to DHS, Thompson and Langevin said the committee’s inquiry found that “dozens of Department of Homeland Security computers were compromised by hackers” and that hackers removed data from DHS systems to a Web hosting service connected to Chinese Web sites. The letter alleged that the data was removed “despite the Department of Homeland Security’s assertions to the contrary,” and that network protection devices were not up and running when the data breaches occurred. Time to clear your own mess guys before you start hassling with someone else…

    Interesting..
I’ve read chinese hackers supported by the government are the cause of this. How the hell does the FBI thinks they’ll be able to take them down, they should secure it better.
I don’t think the same rules apply overthere.
It’s isn’t the first time Unisys is in a bad daylight due to security holes.

DHS is a very scary thing.

liken it to a frankenstein, made up of the nsa, cia, atf and more.

all those networks and their budgets all stitched together with one man at the head.

waaaaaay too much power and information for one man to control.

also, if you are waiting for a democrat to be in office… you’ll have a long wait if the democrats throw all their weight behind a woman to win. USA is just not ready for that.

has not yet been a chick in the big chair and i will be surprised if it happens in my lifetime.

    my 2 cents.

Hmmmm maybe turn the IP addresses over to the Chinese government im sure they will track down the attackers ……. ROFL.

LOL i bet the Chinese government paid for not only the computers used but also the internet connections and salaries for the black hats.

Funny how governments like the Chinese get GINORMOUS amounts of United States federal dollars while they send the US tainted meat and toys painted with poison, and use their hackers to attack US intelligence infrastructure. All while the USA borrows HUNDREDS OF BILLIONS of dollars from the COMMUNIST government of China to fund the misguided and illegitimate war in Iraq.

Oh wait i forgot, muslim fundamentalists and Iraqi dictators are the real enemy here…… silly me.

with all the data they collect and systems they control, wouldn’t the DHS network be like a one-stop-wonderland for terrorists?
