Lets make an ASSUMPTION (for the sake of discussion) that the Macedonians were a distinct tribe in ancient times, like the Tracians, and not Hellenic.

Does this justify a Slavic speaking, mostly Bulgarian peoples to claim the Macedonian name and legacy as their own? Especially when this non Hellenic (remember, just an assumption) race spread the Hellenic culture and language?

Do you agree that the Macedonians have more ties with Hellas than with a group of peoples that chose the name Macedonia for themselves based solely on the fact that they live in the broader geographical area of Macedonia?

I don’t agree with your claims about the Macedonians being a distinct ethnic group… Most claims that support this are usually backed only by the fact that they had a different political structure. (actually, there were many Hellenic kingdoms rather than democracy, Epirus for example).

Also, you’re claim that ‘The Macedonians were under Greek rule for a millenia’ is completely false. They were not under Greek rule for a millenia, and if they were, under which city states? (because as we all know there was no common Hellenic state or empire at that time).

Of course if we go to the bottom line none of this is very relevant… The fact that the Macedonians IDENTIFIED AS HELLENES, the fact that they SPREAD HELLENIC CULTURE, the fact that they SPREAD THE HELLENIC LANGUAGE, this is more than enough to say that they were Greek.

50-60 yrs. ago a lot of greeks migrated to america.now there are 2nd even 3rd generation greeks to various cities in the u.s.

-again using your own arguments- should they as well claim that they are the only americans existant in those cities?weren’t there people living in those cities before the greeks’ arrival?have they lost their right to be u.s. citizents?

i really support your right to find your own ethnic/cultural character.what i don’t support is the false pretention of ancestry of a totally different culture ESPECIALLY WHEN THE TRUE GOAL -NO MATTER HOW PATHETIC THIS MAY BE- IS TO EXPAND THE NATIONAL SOVEREIGN OF A STATE.(our skopians know very well what i mean)

suppose a number of fyrom citizens migrates to a different country (say australia).does that make them eligible -after a number of years- to claim a part of australia as their own just because they migrated there?
even if the slavic tribes did come to the specific region some centuries back, that does not make them as the inheritents of that land nor the descendants of the culture which was dominant there.they were simply an ethnic minority.sad, but true.

otherwise there is a number of greek enterprenuers that has gone to fyrom.according to your logic, fyrom should be greek too since greeks “just happen” to live to your country
