This documentary should be paired to be downloaded with my last one on gangs, which focuses on one with a Neo-Nazi ideology. FASCISM – A system of government marked by centralization of authority under a dictator, stringent socioeconomic controls, suppression of the opposition through terror and censorship, and typically a policy of belligerent nationalism and racism.
The United States is about as close as you can get to fascism without technically being “fascist”. The only criteria that the United States does not meet for fascism is the fact that they have a “freely elected leader” that can theoretically be removed by the US congress.
The United States meets all other criteria for a fascist state.
If anyone would like me to break the criteria down item by item and provide real world examples i will be more than happy to

Well, i’m very dissappointed. Actaully I’m not only dissappointed, I’m very irritated by this sort of docu. It messes up everything. First, communism and fascism is not the same thing. I agree that every country that followed communism was under dictatorship, but it has nothing to do with rascim. Actually, communist countries harbored refugees from the third world. And one of the main theses in idealogy was a about the equality between nations (not about the equality of classes!!!) . You can blame communism in all sins but not in rascism.

Second, when they were showing and speaking in the movie about italian rise of fascism in the background I heard the soviet song “Saint war”. It is complete stupidity. Because that song was written in several days after the Nazi Germany invaded USSR. Actually that songs encourages people to fight againt fascism and the invasion. My both grandgrandfathers died in the Second World War and they probably died listening to that song, fighting against fascism. Well, I’m very insulted. I hate when people without any knowledge put everything in one pot.

The “freely elected leader” is just an illusion of freedom/control that many people think we still have in this country.
Thanks to our campaign finance system (of legalized bribery), corporations own our politicians. And recently, the politicians changed the law so that corporations can own a larger percentage of the news media. Now, 5 corporations own 80% of the news media. So, making an informed decision is almost impossible when the information is controlled and restricted.

And well the USA are definetly not fascism. MAybe they have some problems with freedom of speech and stupid prohibitions, but in the core it is more or less democratical country. Look the powers are separated horizontaly as well as vertically. There are congress, president, high attorney, federal reserve system. Each of these institutions are independed and are not controled by another (horizontal separation). Moreover, individual states have a high degree of autonomy and presiden has no power to say what they must do (f.e. death penalty etc., economic policy etc.) – vertical separation. All in all, there is no secret police service that kills millions and there are no concentration camps.

Yes #12 i understand that fact that is why i said “technically the US is not fascist”. The office of the US President is still a freely elected office, and the US President does not have unfettered control as a dictator would; although sometimes it would appear that way.
In practicality the United States functions much like a fascist state and many, many, many parallels can be drawn between NAZI Germany before WWII and where the US is today.
The good news however is that the US presidential election is coming up in 2008 and i honestly think that Americans have learned a hard lesson over the last 7 years and more Americans will take part in the election process compared to last time; which in my opinion will likely seal the fate of the Republican party and fully remove them from power (they have already lost control of the congress). If that indeed happens and the Democrats regain power i assure you that although there may still be many things wrong with the US government the war mongering will stop; which personally i think is the most important thing right now.

The problem with your statement is that if the election in 2008 can totally reverse the “facist” course that the U.S. is supposedly on, then it was never “facist” to begin with.

The criminal justice system may have inequalities when it comes to income levels, but it is certainly not biased against ethnic background.
Regarding necessary wars vs. unjust wars, reminds me of a recent Ken Burns documentary on PBS called The War, where he even called one episode ‘A Necessary War’. But to classify any military action in such a way without the perspective of the time and situation surrounding the event is impossible. It is easy to be a “monday morning quarterback” today and say the war in Vietnam was fought poorly, or the current situation in Iraq had poor planning for the occupation, but at the time these actions were started, they were indeed considered necessary.
In 1991, had Iraq taken Saudi Arabia after Kuwait, oil supplies would have been at risk. In the Korean and Vietnam situations, the communist threat, which many today forget, was still very real.
The idea that “since America was an isolationist state before WWI and it worked well for us, we should go back to that” is just short sighted. The global economy, worldwide travel and communications, and lack of imperial powers would never allow the U.S. to prosper as isolationists.
You also make the statement that preemptive war is a poor position to take for military action, yet had countries in the late 30’s take preemptive action against Germany, millions of lives would have been spared. The idea that its “its not my problem” only works for so long.
And you never actually answered what you think should have been the U.S. response to their being attacked by Muslim radicals on September 11th. Should they have sat back and said “Gee, I wonder why the Muslim radicals hate us…I must have done something wrong to bother them, so I guess I deserve to have New York City burning today.”
And about the military bases we have in countries around the world, are you saying that the 55 countries we don’t have bases in could cause us trouble?
