Here’s some more eye candy to feed your HD-craving alter-ego. All I know about this movie is that it stars Jessica Alba and Michael Chiklis from “The Shield”, and that it’s loaded with special effects and CG. HALCYON mentions hard-subs in this release. enjoy.

Synopsis: The sequel to the 2005 blockbuster FANTASTIC FOUR, RISE OF THE SILVER SURFER finds the Marvel superhero quartet of Reed Richards (Ioan Gruffudd), Sue Storm (Jessica Alba), Johnny Storm (Chris Evans), and Ben Grimm (Michael Chiklis) facing an extraterrestrial threat in the form of the title character (played by Doug Jones and voiced by Laurence Fishburne), an enigmatic being whose presence on Earth could signal the planet’s end. Amidst the ensuing action, Reed and Sue attempt to tie the knot, and an old foe (Dr. Doom, portrayed by Julian McMahon) waits in the wings, allowing for plenty of levity and drama.

    This is one of the worst movies ever! They could have saved it by having Jessica Alba strip down to the bare minimum, but they didn’t do that either! What fools. What’s the point of jessica alba if she’s gonna be in a full body suit?

    720p/1080i/1080p HD 4ever. Hell I say skip these HDrips, and get right onto the Blu-ray REMUX bandwagon like TPB and others. This is where the future of content is at. Who the hell wants to settle for macro-blocky crappy quality when you can have the mastered digital copies that produce the highest quality video, never before available.. sometimes you n00bs are just too much!!

    The real issue, if you’d take even 5 seconds to think about it, is bandwidth. Until 24 Mb + is standard for the majority, XviD rips will remain a fact of life.

    HDRips are ace but this is an awful movie.

    Some people still think that AVI’s are the way to go for 700MB rips but MKV rips at that size are far superior so this should become the standard.

    MKV is a container, just like AVI or OGM and thus makes no difference to the quality.
    I could take the contents of any AVI and put it in to an MKV file using VirtualDubMod, would that make it any better?

    Of course taking an AVI and converting it in to an MKV isn’t going to make the quality any better, but comparing an AVI to an MKV rip from a DVD, HD-DVD or Blu-Ray, the quality of the MKV is much better.

    Should I worry about HDCP? I’m buying a new videocard with dvi-hdmi output. Will I’ll be able to play this on my lcd which hasn’t HDCP?

    I read that rips remove this security, maybe someone can confirm that…

    ps: It will be really crappy if I cant play 1080p movies…

    You dont get it, it’s down to the input source, the codec and the settings/options used by the codec, etc that make the difference not the container.
    Saying an MKV is better is pointless unless you want to use multiple audio streams and subs.
    I’ve seen plenty of MKV files with xvid streams (anime for example) so just asuming (as I think you are) that all MKV files contain h.264 video streams is silly.
    Heck, you can put h.264 streams into AVI containers if you like, it’s a very bad idea, but you can do it.

    You break it down to that one simple point. No one uses H.264 for the avi, but for the mkv container. That alone already makes mkv the better “format”. I think that’s all Number 31 “Kim” wanted to say. Nothing more, nothing less.

    I have more MKV files containing xvid streams than h.264.

    If you download many anime files from different groups your assumptions based on the container would go out the window.
    Some groups do put h.264 into AVI containers as AVI to some is the norm so they get more downloads and a better ranking.

    Others mix and match, there are no real rules to what can or cannot be put inside the common containers.

    I’ve spent too many hours fixing other peoples encoding mistakes and correcting audio/video synch to make asumptions based on the file format.
