Face Off 1997 HDDVD 720p x264 DTS-ES-H2
And another x264 release is here. This time it’s the crime movie from 1997: Face Off. With actors like John Travolta and Nicolas Cage. When you are a movie fan, you have to see this one. And this is a nice opportunity to watch it in great quality!
Sean Archer is a government agent who for six years has been trying to apprehend terrorist, Caster Troy, who tried to kill him but ended up killing Archer’s son instead. When Archer corners Troy, Troy tells Archer that he has planted a bomb that will go off, unless he lets him go but Archer thinks that Troy is bluffing so a fight erupts that leaves Troy comatose. But later when they go through some of his brother, Pollux’s things, they discover that Troy was telling the truth. All what they need now is to find out where it is and the only person who knows is Pollux. And the only person that he will talk to about it, is his brother, Caster but unfortunately he is a vegetable. A government official then suggests to Archer that he assume Caster’s identity and ask Pollux about the bomb.

So she brings him to a doctor who has perfected a method wherein the face of one individual is removed from him and placed on another. Archer agrees. The operation is a success so Archer as Troy goes to the prison where Pollux is being held and successfully gets him to tell him where the bomb is. Meanwhile, Troy who was believed to be comatose awakens and forces the doctor who operated on Archer to place Archer’s face on him. He then goes to the prison as Archer and taunts Archer by telling him that he has destroyed all documentation of the operation and eliminated everyone who knew about it. He then takes his brother out and leaves Archer in prison. But Archer somehow manages to escape and is now trying to find someone who will believe and help him, while Troy is plotting something.

Cool
Ill be getting this
ok, this I just have to download. Love this movie.
amazing film
Pardon the rant, but I’m curious if the market (and scene) is going to end up flooding old titles on HD/BR. These re-releases don’t seem very logical. Some might say this is everyone buying the Beatles on CD, but do you really see DVD players being obsolete in 5 years? You have to actually decide to film movie in such a way that takes advantage of HD/BlueRay’s full capabilities when it gets published to consumers, and DVD seems to be still very good at keeping up with 95% of what’s being put out there. HD/BR is awesome for the few flicks like Transformers which were actually intended for this type of media eventually.
But for this title? they just pass it through a filter, stamp it on new media, and expect people to shell out bucks for the pleasure of keeping old titles on new hardware. The only reason I can think of to recommend this practice would be if the original work truly benefited from the transfer, aka: digitally shot work, or films with extensive re-mastering, and if it was a sure thing that one format or the other was going to be the de facto standard for all releases in the future. But that hasn’t happened yet, and doesn’t appear to be going to be decided soon.
There won’t be a winner yet between HD and Blue Ray.. especially when DVD is still very suitable and more affordable then ever.
I somewhat agree with #4, judging from the samples, it doesn’t look that great.
DSX, kudos for actually using punctuation and proper lower- and uppercase, not seen often around here
But, watch the HD release of Casablanca and be amazed what can be done with filters and some (or lots of) work. I agree that newer movies, especially pure CGI movies, make the most sense for HD releases. But if you do a HD telecine (the actual process of digitalizing film rolls) you can still get a lot more detail than when you just do a NTSC or PAL resolution TC. Even resizing a DVD on the computer, for example with ffdshow, provides a absolutely noticable improvement in quality.
Why I shouldn’t be happy with the BluRay-Rip version from PROGRESS is another matter…
John Woo baby John Woo
Quite a lot non-scene releases posted here lately, from private tracker (you know which one OP), even if that is against the rules, from the mentioned tracker…

funny?
Erm, most old movies are filmed in 35mm, more than enough to take advantage of the new HD media. Its not that they show DVDs in cinemas.
