First step, make sure that the subtitle file is exactly the same as the movie title, except for the extension. If the subtitles are in IDX/SUB, make sure that they both match. Second, make sure that your player supports subtitles. Most good players do, but some don’t. Media Player Classice is supposed to support subtitles, but recent versions have a bug where subtitles often don’t work. Third, check your player’s menus to see if subtitles are enabled.

If you still can’t see the subtitles, try a different player, like GOM Player. Also, if you have ffdshow installed, you can enable subtitle support in the Video Decoder Config. Note that for this to work, ffdshow has to be used for playing that file type, or at the very least, set to the proper codec. If the ffdshow setting for that format is “Disabled” ffdshow won’t be called and it will never have a chance to load the subs.

If you’ve done all that and you still can’t see the subs, you probably had a bad set of IDX/SUB files. I’ve had that happen on occasion. The SUB file is some weird format that doesn’t always work.

The last resort is to go to;

And try and find an alternate subtitle file. Try and find one made for your particular release of the film, or the subtitles might not be in sync with the dialog. Most are in plain text .SRT format, which is practically fool-proof. You can even edit them with a text editor to fix small errors, or re-sync the entire file using Subtitle Workshop.

Also note that there are other sources of subtitles on the net. I use OpenSubTitles the most, but there are others.

Magic ISO is by far the better app despite editor’s comment. At least #10 got it right.

Luigi Auriemma’s DAA2ISO and UIF2ISO handle daa and uif. Then you can use your favourite handler for iso. IMO all daa and uif releases should included an unpacker.
