they always have to dumb these shows down for americans, making the jokes more obvious for example and removing allusions to things uneducated americans would not understand

xiii: Exactly which jokes weren’t allowed in the US? Since Extras plays on HBO, they can pretty much say and do whatever they like! Weird stuff.

As for the American specific jokes, they have indeed changed a few jokes around in the past, because certain slang words in British have no meaning to us Americans.

This is a slightly different episode than will be shown in UK next week. Some American specific jokes and also some jokes cut out as they are not allowed in America. Some may want to wait till next weeks UK airing.

In fairness, I think the only show that The Office resembled was a police comedy called Operation Good Guys which aired years and years before The Office.

Unfortunately I don’t think it was particularly popular, even here in the UK. It was an awesome show, and centred around a police station and a load of bumbling coppers. It was class.

As for the comment about Gervais ripping off people like Alan Partridge, well I don’t think that’s true. I can see how you might think that, but personally I’d say that those shows both come under the umbrella of “british comedy”, so they’re lkely to be quite similar.

I’ve not seen this Christmas special yet, but it’s defo an early Christmas present as far as I’m concerned. Thanks for the upload!
