Europe flooded by foreign spam
One of the biggest issues of current internet is still a growing threat. And the Europeans are due to new study the most common victims: Unsolicited e-mails continue to plague Europeans and account for between 50 and 80 percent of all messages sent to mail inboxes, the European Commission said Monday. EU Media Commissioner Viviane Reding called on EU governments to step up their fight against spam, spyware and other illegal online activities and implement EU rules to improve Internet safety. An EU report found that only two EU nations – the Netherlands and Finland – were making inroads in enforcing the 2002 law to crack down on spam.
“Spam is still … making up to between 50 and 80 percent of the mails that we are receiving in Europe and two-thirds of that is coming from outside the European Union,” said EU spokesman Martin Selmayr. EU officials have said they will put forward new legislation next year to make it easier to prosecute spammers. Monday’s EU report said spam cost euro39 billion ($51.1 billion) worldwide last year, according to San Francisco-based Ferris Research Institute. Selmayr said the biggest culprit of spam remains the United States, which accounts for 21.6 percent of spam coming into the 25-nation EU. China is the second-biggest producer with 13.4 percent, while EU member France is third with 6.3 percent. God bless the GMail and their perfect spam filters, although there is a rising amount of spam passing into my mail box lately…

The Netherlands, a small country. Doesn’t even have the populace of a big city like Paris or New York. Yet they’re always progressing and they have the biggest amount of people with broadband Internet connections when you look at the amount of people that life there and the percentage of them that have a broadband Internet connection. I feel so proud to life there.
I’m a dutchman too.
Man .. we should be proud here
you can tell the spam is getting worse, just llok at the forums of nTi,spam city lately….
and theres me adding to it
yeah its a problem. i have enabled some advanced registration captcha code, but dunno if that helps – there is also need of clicking at link in activation mail, and because of that is certain it’s someone’s work, not a scripted bot… and it’s hard to fight against humans on 24/7
its not that bad for me in canada on gmail i get about 45 emails a day and 30 of those is spam but i just click one thing and its all gone it doesnt make it to inbox. my isp email has yet still to receieve junk mail
I had to get rid of my favorite email account due to the spams i was recieving! Loads of shit and it just piss me off
I also use gmail and never received any spam until a few days ago. Now I get about one per day. I guess spammers learn faster than the HMM or whatever other algorithm gmail uses.
i’ve always had a special address for subscriptions and never put my real email on any mailing list… as a result i have 0 spam and life is good… i don’t know if that is the reason i am safe, but it must contribute.
safety first
Only time I had loads of spam in my yahoomail was when some new virus got mailed around.. Upto 150 mails a day for about two weeks.. But other then that I usualy never get anything I don’t want in any of the emailaccounts I have.
solution: by a mac and use the bounce feature :p
WOOOOOOOOHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO FINLAND RULES!!!!!!!!!!! WOHOOOOOO
If I buy (and not by) a mac I’m gonna have a hell of a lot bigger problems than spam :p
