PS3 has superior cell processors than anything you can even buy on a PC. It plays games faster and at higher resolution. There is no way PC games have better graphcs. PCs are still stuck on quad cores even the i7 cant compare to PS3s 8 cores. Why do you think they use ps3 in the @home projects and as supercomputers to break encryptions? Because its far superior to any PC processor on the market. Keep playing your PC and I will enjoy PS3 in HD while you game on a moniter.
Consoles are PC's, their made from really old PC hardware and overclocked to the max.
But then again consoles have their place just like PC's.
Without a doubt, the best gaming experience is sitting in a lazy boy, with your 42inch LCD, playing PC GAMES.

Looks like you have no idea about computers at all (consoles use the same computer parts as PC's) – just admit it that you cannot afford a half decent rig and have to make due with a console.

Ok on topic now. What exactly does this update do. The nfo gives very little information. Does this include the official patch? Does it do anything for the terrible AI? Does it fix the problems with the original Razor release with out jumping through lots of hoops and adding replacement files?

Hi. I made a fresh install, cut and pasted the update.exe in my install dir now when I try to run it says stuff like "Old file not found" "File with same name found but not correct content" etc.
What should I do? I tried to reinstall twice.

I agree. Its all what looks good to you. None of them are better with graphics, just different styles and ways of displaying them. I personally think PS3 looks best to me also, sh!ts all over even the highest end PCs.
First RS Files work fine, nothing missing.
If you applied the Soundfix (e.g. from ddl-warez) you have to restore the old file first and than run the update – that works fine. Only problem for me is now, that the new crack changes the game back to english.. ^^ it works with the old (german) one too, even the sounds function (without the old soundfix) but the alt+tab-error remains.. i guess i just have to wait until a german crack releases or sth.
i'm looking forward to the update, where SEGA implies the coop campaign per lan/internet..

I did have to try a few times, but that order as i said in 46 works.
-Just delete the old folder where it were installed.
-Then install the game again.
-Copy the entire crack from the dvd1 from the razor1911 folder.
-Apply patch.
-Play

We will be rolling out the first of a series of updates later today with a variety of fixes for Empire: Total War, including:
Fixed Alt-Tab issue which prevents players from switching away from a full screen window
Fixed text rendering for certain resolutions
Fixed localized font overrun issues.
Fixed a variety of crash and memory leak issues
Fixed a variety of multiplayer client lock
Fixed trade nodes for those nations with resource in home region which caused unprofitable trade theatre routes eg: Sweden and Marathas.
I first applied the patch, then I copied the .exe into the Empire Total War folder. Does the sequence make a big difference?
I mean, when I patch the game it says it can't find a file called patch.xxx forgot the extension, but like I said I can't find the file anywhere in the data folder.

AVG went crazy after installing this , and loads of strange exe files generated , and auto install of software 3wplayer.

There are 2 .exe files:
1. The one that came with the update
2. The one that came with the first release
Which one am I supposed to paste into the empire total war directory prior to patching? The old one or the new one? After patching, am I supposed to paste in the new one?
The update came with an .exe file which confused me.

But in info say abount clear install, Razor cant even normal says whats peaple must to do before update.

Holy crap buy the game if you enjoy it and its a great game. If you a fan of the previous Total War Games you will love it. PC Gaming is slowy dying lets not kill it by giving two fingers to a fantastic game.

My opinion on graphics is PS3 becauz of the cell processor alone. It can perform over 250 gigaflops per second where even the core i7 only has 50. Yet the sorry PC gamers still wont admit a $400 console outperforms there $3000 computers. PS3 FTW.

I have put the update file into the DATA folder and when run it says 'the old file doesn't exist' for each of the files.
I also put the file into the install directory with the same result.
So does this crappy release work now or what?

The install notes are below. But, while it doesn't specify – you need to have copied over the original razor crack before running the update.
Anyone who hasn't got this working – probably downloaded the trojan. I hear you will see 'codec.exe' as well as the 'update.exe' if you are running the trojan/virus version.

This patch change nothing the game still crush and there is no patch to press on its only contain 2 folders and 1 file so don't download it because its not fix the game we should wait until CA will release offical update! i've tried to play in the first episode and when i finished the game was crush like before the patch!

I have only been playing the RTI campaign and the old saves does work. I don't know about the grand campaign though.

Hmmm… And I have only been playing grand campaign. Maybe that's the difference? My game folder is also the same size. I also noticed that crashes (when one tries to load old grand campaign save game) produce "out_of_memory_virtual_dump.tga" file. Idon't know whether this had to do anything with memory leak in the save games.
Let me get this straight, when you say 'copy the old crack before update2', do you mean the entire razor1911 folder from DVD1 or JUST the empire.exe ??

Dror, I am not sure who do you ask but I will attempt to answer.
Just copy entire crack folders contents (Razor1911 folder from DVD1) to the install folder. Then update.
This only applies to people that have used other empire.exe files or exchanged Razor1911 sound pack with another sound packs (in order to fix sound issues)
However:
I (as many others) have messed around with razors release (downloading new sound pack, episode 1 fix etc…) As nfo says the update works only on original razor1911 release. So if you have replaced sound files like I did you have to restore original "sounds_sfx.pack" file in order for update to work…
Again, I will point out that because I had memory leak in my savegames my old saves dont work in the new update2 (I think it is the reason – reading #108 post you will se why)
I am pleased to say that I have now downloaded and installed the correct update & everything seems fine so far.
The one I downloaded before did indeed have a few trojans in it.
But having located the real thing it is all good !!!.

If I may point out the update you link to appears to be similar to the razordox release (minus the sound files). The grand campaign savefiles still cannot be loaded (mine cannot).
I suspect that people that manage to use their old save files are either playing the Road to Independence campaign or have somehow managed to avoid memory leak in the save files.
For those that are considering whether to update or not, I would say to go ahead anyway. If you are unlucky as I was you may get the GC bug (I am talking about unpatched game) where faction turn phase lasts up to 45 minutes. I don't know if this bug is linked to the memory leak issue but it pretty much makes game unplayable (well, I guess those of you that are very patient wouldn't mind the bug). What's worse, the bug doesn't become apparent untill 40 to 60 turns into the grand campaign.
If there are people out there that manage to load grand campaign saves would you please post size of your savefile, the turn you are playing (or year) or anything else that may help.

I didn't follow excatly Poison's instructions. After I downloaded the following files (Em-TW-original-PSN-rar, the link is provided by poison) I was able to load the Grand Campaign save game!
However the bug with faction turn phase length remains. I have no idea what causes the issue.

As for the piracy topic, i have looked everywhere in my region for the real physical version of the game because it is the one i want. and there is none to be found…no wonder people turn to piracy….the game is not just on the shelves….
Does actually have problem with the navy ?? Sometimes when i click on a fleet (or harboured fleet), there is a 20secs lag or the game crashes completely with "ETW stopped working blablabla" I play british (now in year 1769) and it is more and more frequent – just before a while i played for two minutes

Everything went quite smoothly untill one time i had a crash to desktop. So i decided to try the update. Since the original instructions on the above adress worked fine, i followed the instructions for the update as well….
I regret doing that now, since the whole game won't start anymore
I press the empire.exe and nothing happens….

Memory leaks are not fixed by this update – at least not in my game. You can check yourself whether you have memory leak by starting a new game and saving immidiatly. Then press the end turn button and save again (do not overwrite the old file). Exit the game and compare the file sizes. Usually the original save shouldn't be over 25 mb and the second one should also not be much larger than that. If it is much larger you likely have memory leak issues and you may just as well give up on starting new campaigns for time being.
I'm having serious memory leak problems (at least I think so).
Playing on Low settings, I get ~30-40 minutes of gameplay.
Playing on High settings, I get 5-15 minutes of gameplay.
But only after I play a real-time battle. If I autoresolve everything, it works just fine, but after playing real-time battles I believe my graphics card memory runs out (on an XFX GeForce 8800GTX 768mb card), the screen goes black and then I get a BSOD. Could also be that I run out of RAM, but I've got 3gb so I think I should be fine there.
I really want my save games back. I almost had Europe with Sweden

sorry for the simplicity of the question but ive looked for it and noone seems to clarify, how do you run this update, is there an installer or something coz all I see are some files named rzr-etp2 with numbers from 1 to 33, and also an NFO setup which doesnt seem to bo big things, so thats my question, how is the proccess, or how to start the installation of the patch-update, please really bage you to answer.

1) You need to extract the archive. If you have problems, rename rzr-etp2.001 to rzr-etp2.001.rar and extract that.
2) Move the extracted file called "update.exe" to your ETW install directory and run it.
3) Copy the cracked "Empires.exe" from the Razor1911 folder to your ETW install directory.
Razor1911 should just disband. their arrogance led them to attempt to code up a loader that doesn't work. then they go off and literally make their own patch, based on tools, and I wouldn't be surprised if they stole it and recoded it to put their name on it. No, I won't download this. Razor1911=EpicFail

Here is 2 original Steam updated ( 30. march 2009.)and 1 crack file that fix some of game issues. Copy/paste to game/data dir.

Ok, I've read all the posts, and have an understanding of what to do to get the game to work. Problem is there are soundfixes and updates and personally I'm a bit confused. Just one more post, with step to step details on how to get the game working would be nice. Like are the soundfixes required, and when are they installed?

The newest patch (30.4.2009) work with RAZOR ETW Spec. Forces
+ Update 2 Razor DOX.
Still some CDT accour, but rarely.

I had working razor ETW with Update 5+6,
now I am getting CTD when trying to run the game(with revloader)
Just run the game with cracked empire exe. It will work, but
special edition units and dlc will not be recrutable.
Thath is the problem with update 6 razordox.
Revloader and other files i take from update 5 torrent and
for me its working witout CDT.

unfortunatly the update from clean install to v1.5
from post 215 doesn´t work for me.
The game starts with loading screen but immediatly crashes to desktop then.
Have also tried the hotfix from post 220 and dlc units enable mod although I don´t think it has something to do with..

No, you dont. For prophet version download skidrow 1.5 patch.
For razor version, download Empire: Total War v1.5 Update 8 and Empire: Total War v1.5 Update 8 Hotfix Proper and you ready to go.

So… If I have the stock DL of the Razor 1911 version of this game… to make it work just DL the 1.5 update 8 hotfix and the 6 1.5 update 8’s from post 239… Install the update do the hotfix… not having done the patch that came with it(Its a fresh install) ……. It should work? Arubba?

Hello.. the 44DLC4free.pack is working.. albeit on vista64.. the folder of creative assembly was under [roaming] after appdata. using the original game with latest patch ,the new units shows on multiplayer only.. dont show on the game campaign .. and also.. when u choose USS contitution ship game crash.. every other unit seems to work. but only shows in multiplayer.. if u start a new game.. should new units show its picture when u right click on the last game army building? because elite DLC units dont show there.. will like to know how to test if the new DLC units are available too in the campaign. tried loading an old game with all buildings but neither DLC units show there..
