No they don’t. I have studied both and they are not the same. The only thing in common they have is the Book of Mormon. Other than that, 2 totally different religions.

Is this about the wife of the guy who stuck his head into a hat to read a stone? Seems pretty plausible as a grounds for religion…….

but a man talking to a burning bush or a guy that tells you to eat his flesh and drink his blood is plausible grounds for a religion?

@5 Many religions outside of Christianity call Jesus a prophet, or at least a good leader.

@15 If you’re Christian, you’ve got an awesome sense of humor.

FLDS branched off from Mormons relatively recently because the U.S. government had laws against polygamy, so, to remain a recognised religion, they decided to do away with allowing multiple wives. The FLDS were the members of the Mormon church who refused to change their beliefs just for that reason so they left and remained the way they always were, hiding from the law, mostly all of them moved to Mexico for a while before coming back to the U.S.

Therefore, the FLDS are exactly the way the Mormons used to be. The only difference between the LDS and the FLDS is the fact that the FLDS still allows multiple wives.

I actually HAVE studied many religions and I don’t simply mean Wikipedia. Pick up a book. “Escape” by Carolyn Jessop is a decent *start* for people interested in actually knowing the truths before ranting about stuff they don’t fully understand.

Live and let live. As long as a people of a religion aren’t harming anybody, let them believe what they want to believe.

    Thorn:

You are correct on your explanation on the 2 sects. It was a U.S Government mandate that polygamy not be practiced by the Mormon church…the tax exempt helped also. But, LDS still believe in the practice polygamy even if they are not practicing it. It is in there doctrine in D&C 132. It has never been taken out of scripture. The FLDS has the same scripture as the mainstream LDS. The FLDS use the original BofM that Smith so-called translated from Gold Plates, thru the Urim and Thumim, and of course starring into a deep black hat while doing so.

This movie does an injustice to Emma Smith. She was cornered into accepting all of Smiths lies to conceive his tyrant acts. Read Doctrine and Covenants 132 in the Mormon Scripture, a link is provided. This scripture or revelation as the LDS church calls it, is completely sickening. It also explains that a non temple marriage is not valid in Gods eyes.

When Young took the polygamist mormons to UTAH, Emma stayed behind. It is funny how this movie depicts Emma as a strong, faithful, and abiding wife to Smith, BUT she never went with YOUNG and the Mormons that practiced polygamy. Emma stayed behind and help started the RLDS, another spin off of Mormonism.

Hmmm your right Thorn. FLDS do still practice polygamy & the mormons still believe in the principle but don’t practice it. The Mormons claim it is in the old testament, there are many examples of polygamy, Abraham the prophet Gen 16, Isaac & Jacob. Just that the Mormons are also commanded that the Laws of the land take presidence over the laws of god & the reason they no longer practice it. In my eyes I see that if Gods laws don’t change, then God in times has allowed man to have multiple wives to fit his purpose. If you are a christian that follows the bible, you cant disagree with the principle of polygamy, its in the bible read it.

all religions are pagan by default, created by man to explain his existence. The truth is in the stars.
