EA introduces easy family controls for Wii

Electronic Arts has announced the Family Play system, a choice of control method set to be introduced in the Wii versions of Madden NFL 08, NBA Live 08 and FIFA 08. The concept is to provide an optional simplified control scheme to allow players to compete against more experienced players. Using Family Play players just use the Wiimote and the console handles the more advanced aspects of controls for the player. EA describes the control scheme as having an invisible helper playing along with you. As players become more experience they can begin using the nunchuck for more advanced controls.

“EA SPORTS Family Play on the Wii creates an incredibly accessible and user-friendly experience that the whole family will enjoy,” said Dave McCarthy, Executive Producer for the three games developed at EA Canada. “While many fans love to control every piece of the action, novice players can have just as much fun jumping in to throw a touchdown pass, nail a three pointer or take a shot on goal. Family Play brings together fans of all ages to enjoy playing EA SPORTS games, and even let’s them ease in to Advanced play if they desire.”

the “simplification” is optional. I don’t see anything wrong with that.

This isn’t going to hurt “hardcore” gaming, jesus.

This is GREAT news as long as ’simplified’ controls don’t make it into online games. Or it it does make them labeled as such so that rankings aren’t skewed.

This is great feature and fits the Wii perfectly. Wii is about FUN and making it possible for everybody to enjoy the games is awesome.

I doubt that easy-mode scores are only compared to other easy-mode scores. Advanced stuff is well… advanced.

Just bought a Wii, greatest console ever. And I generally HATE consoles…

As long as these simplified controls are optional, who cares? Nintendo is the king of gameplay, and this just shows it. Yes, I know it says EA, but Nintendo did design the freakin’ thing…

Sounds like cheating to me. But console people are used to it. Auto-aim anyone ?

I like how “inept” must mean “family” according to EA. Shows how EA is changing I think.
