EA cancels Command & Conquer: Tiberium
At the end of July, Electronic Arts announced it was delaying the launch of Tiberium on the PC, Xbox 360, and PlayStation 3. Without citing any specific issues, the publisher postponed the first-person spin-off of the Command & Conquer series until its 2010 fiscal year, meaning the earliest it would have hit retail was April 2009. Today came news that Tiberium won’t hit retail, period. This afternoon, EA confirmed to GameSpot that the title has been canceled outright, a victim of an internal quality-control audit by EA. The game was in development at EA’s Los Angeles studio, where the next installment in the C&C series, Command and Conquer Red Alert 3, remains in the works for the PC and Xbox 360.

“EA has suspended work on Tiberium effective immediately,” corporate communications spokesperson Mariam Sughayer told GameSpot. “The game was not on track to meet the high quality standards set by the team and by the EA Games Label. A lower-quality game is not in the best interest of the consumers and would not succeed in this market.” Since taking over in 2007, EA CEO John Riccitiello and EA Games president Frank Gibeau have said they are implementing a more strident quality-control system at EA’s numerous internal studios. As a result of the cancellation, an unidentified number of employees are being let go from EALA. Sughayer explained that “every effort” is being made “to place talented people on other projects.” Besides Red Alert 3, EALA is home to a number of Steven Spielberg-produced games, including a 360/PS3 sci-fi shooter. It’s also where 300 director Zack Snyder will be setting up shop to work on a trio of new IPs with EA.

Shame, I was looking forward to this game….I always thought EA Released bad games deliberately.
never heard of this. but the fact that ea trying to correct their name.. is good sign.. considering they own half of god damn market..

In other words, people got told “You suck, now get the F*** out”
i really wanted this game to come out.
fck EA
They needed more people on 3 more The Sims expansions
Honestly though, if a game is so bad EA cancels it, it was BAD

To which the yearly rehashed sports titles are obviously immune. Yeah, you’re totally convincing me there this it’s a matter of quality, not projected sales, EA…
And yet they let sucky games like Tiger woods roll on year after year with 5 year old graphics. Its a massive gaff by EA after cancelling Madden’09 for PC too. EA should change their name to Electronic Arseholes
EASUX
Court decided to charge them because uf DRM/Securom LOL
Now they are poor.
sht this sucks i was really looking forward to this game know im going to hit cnc zero hour for the next 2-456789 years fuk ea.and that drm sht know this cmon they have realeased way more shty games than this.

Oh please, give me a break! EA has no quality-control, period!
“The game was not on track to meet the high quality standards set by the team and by the EA Games Label. A lower-quality game is not in the best interest of the consumers and would not succeed in this market.”
Hahahahhahahahaha
EA… Quality controll… high quality standards… LOL
EA doesn’t have quality controll.
I meen seriously if it’s so bad EA themself decide to cancle then it must have been incredibly bad.
XYU you said a mouthful there.
EA is a business like any other. Why spend money on games you will not make money on when you can just ignore them and sell a new one. I would bet anyone that if EA sold a game for $10 (or even free)and every update was purchasable … you’d see games with a long shelf life and constant updates that not only reflect the ‘quality’ of the intended game but met consumer’s needs.
EA is probably just shelving the game until they can milk end users for cash with in-game purchases. Like with Bad Company.
Fck i was waiting for that.
Screw you EA .I.
quality????? yeah right EA has high quality standards!!!!! of course just look games like madden, it has quality standars because it´s the same F$#$%& game that they made 6 years ago!!!!! so they keep fixing it every year too bad they also charge for it…. i´m sure that the real reason why this game was canceled is because they couldn´t find a way to add “downloable extras” to milk money from their customers…. and that´s something their high quality standards can´t allow!!!!!

Are you f*cking sh*tting me?!
Ave you seen the load of cr*p coming from EA lately?!
This is NOT the real reason, it probably just took too long, and EA couldn’t make enough money with it. C*nts.
I’ll code it myself, just using the Source engine.
Copyright? Need to find me first….
no, please. let me wake up into the real world where tiberium isnt cancelled!
Seriously I was looking forward to play this game…
EA releases a lot of crap. This game must have been very bad to get cut by such low standards.
The game trailer was goodlooking. I really dont get it. A new first person it will be for C&C. Shame.
Seriously guys EA have raised their standards a lot lately, especially on consoles, just look at their latest Xbox 360 releases “Facebreaker” what a masterfull piece of gaming-making it was, actually calling it a game is doind an injustice to such a wonderful peice of art, forget Shadow of the Colossous, Mario 64, Grand Theft Auto IV… if you want real quality then buy Facebreaker!
I personally think EA ruined the franchise of C&C, others will disagree, respectively. Was kind of shocked though at the comments as to why, EA doesn’t usually make any quality games anyway. But there again, renegade was the experimental game for C&C and that failed miserably, so maybe in a way it was the best move as there are too many really good fps to contend with.
Renegade did not have any FPS programmers on staff if I remember right (or were brand new)
This one they did take guys from other FPS series for this so they had the basics covered.
I was not to impressed by WHEN they set the series, but I did hope it would have meant that after it was released, we could have seen one set in the Red Alert timeline
This really works you can get cash too

@29 Andrew McDougall
I don’t think anyone can honestly disagree with you there…
idiot.
cnc storyline won’t end
thanks to ea
Talking of EA “quality” control that’s non existant I’m not surprised that they sent a wrong edition of RA3 to me. Sent normal pre-order rsther than the Premium that I ordered.
