Dugg: you know when you do it right

I don’t really use Digg that often, but it’s a well respected site without any doubts. I guess we could easily get many of our posts on the frontpage with our 200 000 daily visitors and little bit of motivation for digging our content, but I don’t have a reason to do so: Digg’s average reader is a computer-savvy geek which would probably spend 3 to 4 seconds at our site trying to understand what’s going on here and then quickly leaving back to his funny images and dorky videos listed in Top 10. It’s a well known fact that the value of Digg traffic isn’t really high, although it can quickly bring many server to their knees.

However, I was browsing the referer stats today and noticed quite a few people coming from digg.com. That was weird - we weren’t on the frontpage and there weren’t even any articles submitted in last few weeks, neither by me nor by any of our readers. But then I saw it: Digg was offline for more than hour today and it displayed only a simple page with links to various sites, recommended by Digg employees. And here it was: link to Releaselog recommended by someone called Mark L, right next to internet giants as BBC News, Yahoo or Techcrunch. It’s moments like this when you realize you do your job right. Thanks.

Digg’s average reader actually has a decent clue as to what goes on here, just like anyone that torrents should. Slashdot readers would probably be a bit more familiar, but I think you underestimate Digg and the Digg effect; you can boost your traffic tremendously and hold onto at least 20% of that permanently.

Well, i’m a heavy digg user and i still visit your site daily. Nice to see that they posted a link there, considering the fact that there are a lot of “release log” sites around.

Other than that, you can find everything you want only a few min after pre on 0day trkrz ;) no need 2 pay for ftp access anymore.

Same here as with @4 - congrats! I visit digg 3-5 times a day to see the top 10/20, and visit here 1-10 times a day (or more). Not everyone uses digg for the pics and videos - it is a great source of upcoming news. Generally, if I see it climbing up digg’s charts, it’ll hit the MSM in 1-3 days. Oh, and I understand 95% of what is on here too! :D ………(okay, 90%) :D

I have been coming here for a long time (i am sure it has been two years or so), martin and the rest of you guys are certainly doing your jobs right. Congrats for the digg page thing, but whether or not the digg.com employee was doing his job right, linking to rlslog from digg.com is a little contraversial, especially considering that digg.com must be an american run site (i cant be bothered to look it up), i doubt that there will be many such high profile sites linking here for obvious reasons. Keep up the good work boys (and girls?!)

I’ve been reading digg daily for years and been keeping up with releaselog for about half that long.

You’re completely wrong about digg users. Just look at the comments to any story about piracy or the RIAA/MPAA and you will see that the digg usership is quite familiar with torrents and the like.

Finding this site was great, in the past I had been watching “top torrents from the last day” lists trying to find good new releases. Releaselog does does it for you in a great way. I think many digg users would love this site and tens of thousands would visit it often if you submitted it and it got to the front page. You should post and article with a link to a digg submission, I think you would get more than enough diggs.

@24; kyle, what is your first? these days (in order) mine are bbc news, rlslog, digitalspy, gizmodo (that is rubbish these days), gmail, doom9. I would use a predb for my release news, but rlslog post any release that would get my attention (usually, though it takes epguides.com for the ones they miss!). Someone a while posted a site that gave a weekly report of what and when shows air in their countries, i wish i could find that again. Anyone who could help would be a legend!

Oh and to top gear fans, the show will be back soon as BBC have started running adverts for it (i cant wait, it beats 99% of shows, though it is tied with House!)

“Digg’s average reader is a computer-savvy geek which would probably spend 3 to 4 seconds at our site trying to understand what’s going on here”

    That statement contradicts itself.

I also agree, don’t make this scene public. You guys are already doing something right, given a few glitches every now and then. You don’t need trouble from authorities when they come along, regardless of what country you’re in. I’d hate to see this site go down!

    June 13th, 2008 | 03:19

I discovered rlslog when they first started, back when they would add torrents to the mininova site from torrents already on trackers (mainly demonoid), but they would add “newtorrents” in the tag name. Then the newtorrents guy would leave a comment linking to rlslog. At first people thought it was a stupid site and a sleazy way of advertising.

Since then I’ve become the king around here.

I agree with the real Mark L. This site gets about a visit a week just to make sure one of my other release sites didn’t miss anything. A site which used to get much more frequent visits now lacks the speed or amount of reviews. Out of all the releases you might hit about 2%. Heavy recruitment for some posters might get it going pretty good again. Best of luck. For all you daily RLSLOG’ers…search…there’s much better…

At one time, some crappy ones were posted here, but now when there are some good ones out, there seem to be no posts.
No harm in posting when its a really slow day.

Posting infected software to shift other crap anti-malware software. Pushing a site selling fake watches and turning the comments off so you can’t be bashed. + A load of other things which make you both untrustworthy and completely unprofessional.

Guess what though, no one cares, neither does ‘Mark L’. He didn’t put this site next to the BBC for journalistic content believe me…

He linked to rlslog because, like us, he comes here for conveniant access to new scene releases. Your stupid comments/opinions/scams are just background noise.
