I got to know this Welsh singer through her single “Mercy”. After listening to this song, I got attracted to her voice. Then I search and download the MV of this song right away. “Rockferry” is the debut studio album by Duffy, first released on March 3, 2008 by A&M Records. According to Duffy, the album title “Rockferry” is loosely based on Rock Ferry, a suburb of Birkenhead, on the Wirral Peninsula and approximately 10 miles from the Welsh border and 3 miles from Liverpool. The album has earned a nomination for the 2008 MOJO Awards in the category of Album of The Year. In addition “Mercy” has been nominated for Song of the Year. Raised in Wales, on the Llŷn Peninsula, with her twin sister, Katy, and older sister Kelly, Aimee Anne Duffy’s parents divorced when she was 10, and she moved to Pembrokeshire with her mother and sisters, while her father remained in Nefyn. She dropped her first name at the age of 19, calling herself Duffy professionally and personally. She is the only female from the Llŷn Peninsula to ever top the UK music singles charts. Her early interest in singing was apparently inspired by her father John Duffy’s videotape of the 1960s television rock show Ready Steady Go! . Duffy started singing at age 6 and at that age carried around a notebook in which she scribbled lyrics. She was booted from the school choir because her voice was “too big; I didn’t fit in”.

Lol what is this a geography lesson lol. Rock Ferry is part of Birkenhead, and Birkenhead is Liverpools twin..over the water.. or across the River Mersey for all you woolybacks. And the name Wirral is a corruption of Walsea - Wirheal, the same Walsea which the name Wales derives from.
In the early 1900’s Liverpool England had more Welsh living there than in Cardiff the capital of Wales. Duffy is a Scots name I believe lol
