@ yuri
I like using this app on my Mac… It helps big time.
Other similar apps have just disappointed me.
OK so I wont pretend Im not new to Mac but hold on a minute…just he iso of this software is almost 600Mb…is it really gonna "reclaim" that much "wasted" space???
Also…doesnt OSX have a built in defrag?
Does anyone use this regularly? How essential is it if u have a mac? Should I be getting this?
@6
if u ever block your mac after experimenting with bootcamp,, multiboot or others, ull be glad to have this one yeah..
i think it is oversized too looking at similar command-line tools, but that will probably hav to do with the nice interface and the fact that its a boot cd and app…
If performance is a primary concern, optimizing the free space on an OS X drive/volume can in certain instances be beneficial. If you're using an app that utilizes large VM swap files, this can make a difference. There are also instances where recovery software (DiskWarrior, for example) cannot write a replacement directory if there's not enough contiguous free space available for it to do so.
If you're running 10.5.x (and your drive uses the GUID or APM partition table with journaling enabled), this can be accomplished using Disk Utility (which features on-the-fly repartitioning). No third-party apps required. Repartition the drive to the minimum size required to hold the data, and then create a second partition from the remaining (free) space. After the repartitioning is complete (it takes a while), delete the second (empty) partition, giving back all available space to the first (previously full) partition. Free space is now optimized (i.e. contiguous).
Obviously (or hopefully so), having a current and tested backup before attempting this (or any kind of defragmentation/optimization) is strongly recommended.

Interesting. I've always used Micromat's Techtool Pro…
Comparison, anyone? Worth downloading this or stick with what I've got?
Ta for the post anyways, Breeze. Always nice to see Mac apps.
what a nice movie!
Wow

is this to windows to?
or can i find it to windows?
Can anyone help with how to make a bootable CD for Mac? Thanks in advance!
I actually figured out a way around it. If you put the application on another hard drive running OSX and boot from that drive, it works just like the bootable CD. (or close enough for me anyway.)
"Can anyone help with how to make a bootable CD for Mac?"
It won't fit on a (700mb) CD. DVD only. But it will be bootable (provided your Mac will run 10.5.3, that is).
"I also would like to know how can I run this app direct from a disk?"
Without another hard disk (or at least a separate partition), your only other recourse is to burn the .dmg to DVD using Disk Utility.
Open Disk Utility. Drag the (unmounted) .dmg file into the left "Volumes" pane of Disk Utility. Select it and click the "Burn" button. Insert a blank DVD (if you haven't already). Burn.
You end up with a bootable (10.5.3) DVD. Restart with the DVD. When prompted, enter your name and the serial# to activate and you're good to go.
Do yourself a favor and make sure you have a current and tested backup before attempting defragmentation/optimization (or just about any other kind of major disk repair–for that matter, you should have a current and tested backup regardless).
Better safe than sorry.
Don't run a program like this off of a DVD if you're doing anything labor intensive like defragging an entire HD. OSX is designed to run off of media like a DVD – because if you run out of RAM, then you're boned. You really should run it off of a separate partition or HD. Just my 2 cents.
@jeebus/ethan
thanks for the info guys!
I actually cloned my 2yr old MacBookPro (running tiger) on to a partitioned Firewire ext hdd.. and It works! manage to boot other MBPs as well as iMacs with it, but not the unibody tho… i used a software called xupport to do the cloning. And the reason i started this 'project' is to stop the overheat problem when playing World of Warcraft, and it runs smoother! Cool Surprise!
