Dragon Age Origins Return to Ostagar DLC-ARM

Return to the scene of a king’s downfall with the release Return to Ostagar, the latest downloadable content for Dragon Age: Origins, due out next week for the PC and Xbox 360.

Ostagar is the very first area you visit in Dragon Age: Origins once you make it through your character’s original story, though shortly after you get there the location becomes less than welcoming to continued exploration, what with the rampaging hordes of vile creatures and the chance of getting dead king on your boot soles. Return to Ostagar allows players to reclaim the secrets lost on that battlefield. The downloadable content will be available for the PC and 360 on January 5th, with the PlayStation 3 version arriving later in January.

How can I activate this quest?
It installs fine, the DLC is recognised in the folder but nothing happens within the game!
Where’s the new area or the survivor?

    @Joey

In the camp you get a new quest message and a new location appears on your map. Go there…

I did, nothing happened in the camp either. Or do I need to start a new game?

Complete waste of time and bandwith.
You have to load a save game the game made for you, you’re in camp, then you leave for the ostagar campsite, get there, kill a couple of normal, and then “special” regular mobs and open some coffers. Takes less than an hour, calling it “new” area is an insult. After playing this, reconsidering my pre-order of ME2

    January 9th, 2010 | 18:25

try to appreciate it a bit, at least you’re not paying for it and Bioware making an effort to expand the lore… still better than nothing for this underrated precious gem.

    January 9th, 2010 | 19:17

Agree with #32. Finished it in less than hour. Dialog was pretty cheap, nothing like the rest of the game, difficulty was ridiculously easy, especially if you’ve finished the game, new items suck (except the duncan’s weapons if you’re melee) and basically it’s just a cheap way to make money while offering nothing new.

    January 9th, 2010 | 19:50

#32 – Reconsidering your ME2 preorder because of a dlc of a game that has nothing at all to do with ME2 in the first place is stupid and pointless beyond belief. Bioware has never been all that good with dlc. As to be a matter of fact, most dlc for most games usually suck.

Again, reconsidering your preorder for a FULL GAME because an hour long addon for a game that has nothing to do it is stupid. Calm the hell down.

@Joey: Had no problems with that. Just loaded last savegame in camp after the original story. I have all other DLCs and patch 1.02a installed.

After installing this dlc pack, when creating a new character (mage), I got one more entropy magic line, with another drain life and 3 empty (black) slots. Anybody else is having the same thing showing up? Other than that I haven’t noticed anything strange… Tnx for the upload.

With the trend that DLC is becoming more and more common, probably we will soon see even more microtransactions in offline games etc. I would argue that my concerns, while perhaps slightly exaggurated by my disappointment, are valid.

    @ 38

Same thing here. I noticed it with Wynne and I thought that the missing spells in the chain were forbidden because of her spirit healer specialization…

    All in all:

-(for fast players) An hour of easy battles with many groups normal critters backed up by 5-6 yellow specialists and one orange boss

-two hours if you savour the ambience and play slowly and deliberately (scouting, setting/disarming traps…)

-one good (not the best) set of massive armour and some good one-handed weapons (one on par with the best in the game)

-same new Wynne-Alistair dialogue (you basically “have to” take them to Ostagar if you want to experience those 2-3 occasions)

-mini closure scene for the king

It seems to me it’s better to wait for the GOTY edition and get all the mini DLC bunched with the game “for free”.

Guys, are you sure that this is the final version?

Because oficially it hasn’t been released yet.
It may have some potential bugs on it, that’s the word about this DLC.

Are you sure this one is the PROPER DLC?

I’m not going to take that chance, I have a friend who is having problems with his game, he can’t load anything, after he installed this DLC.

I’ll wait for the oficial release to see what’s next.

Yeah~, i heard and saw the reviews about this game, it is good great story lines all, but after i’ve got the game, it totally suck! hard!.
Everything is of this game is good (not great). BUT! I hate the battle concept of of this game! auto battle can go E.A.D.!
The Elder Scrolls IV – Oblivion is still one of the best RPG game still today. Worst game; Sacred 2. 19GB game with full load of sh*t. Free Form Fighting for life! wo0T WO0T!

anyway, this game is not that bad either. I really enjot the story lines. THANK FOR YOU UPLOADING!!

About the DLC, after installed this, I got a new Drain Life spell, like a guy said above. Also, what Jack said is right, I can’t load anything, when it finishes to load, it goes back to the desktop, lol.
And the problem isn’t my rig, a i7 and a GTX285 would not cause something like that…
Anyway, the official release isn’t out yet, they said there was a potential error in the DLC, and they delayed it..
I will do what Jack said, wait the official release of the DLC, in the meantime I play Mass Effect.

The sequel is already coming this month, and I’ve even finished the first one…

    January 12th, 2010 | 07:01

This is not the full DLC. They were going to release it this week but it’s been delayed for a month as they add more content. I’d wait for the full version.

hey fellas. just a question. do the events in Return to Ostagar have any relation to the main storyline of the game? Or is it just another side quest? I mean besides getting Cailan’s pretty cool armor…..what else?

  45. Dusan2
    January 15th, 2010 | 21:09

I’ve got the Drain Life bug too, it’s definitely ’cause of the DLC.
