Domain suspended - What really happened
So i have been always trying inform you about almost all stuff that regards this site, I’ll try to explain what really happened in last 12 hours. Many of you were propably a little shocked when you saw “This domain is temporary suspended” notice instead of the usual content of RLSLOG. This was the first time when something like this happened and I really hope there will be no need to repeat this in the future.
The whole problem was a mail (or two) from a copyright organization called BayTSP. This bunch of idiots gathers pretty much every bigger publisher, distributor and artist under their “company” and protects them from copyright issues. One of their clients is also the ESA, a US organization doing basically the same thing for US game developers. The whole magic of BayTSP is some bot they developed which browses the internet and collects information about products of their clients. When this bot finds something like torrent or any other form of download, it dispatches an email to administrator of that website with endless paragraphs of legal talk. What it does not is to really check the URL of the affected site, so it can easily send a message to a completely legal site like ours (well it’s a bot after all).
The obvious lack of human’s in the loop results in the fact that they usually reply to your email after 7 days or so, which is kind of long when they request “immediate” removal of some content. So our server ISP received 2 of those mails, specifically for MOH:A and Manhunt 2. No matter there was NO torrent link in the post (and if there was one, they should mail the administrator of such a torrent site offering this torrent, not us). However, people in our ISP were little inpatient and 24 hours after this mail suspended the whole domain (midnight). I was partying at some club in this moment so didn’t have a clue something like that happened. Finally, when I woke up few hours ago, I noticed the whole problem and started negotiating with the ISP about re-opening the site, which took me another few hours of a not very pleasant conversation.
Anyway, the site is running again right now and I hope this was the last issue like this. We have to decide how to prevent repetition of this whole thing, which may be either stopping to post the torrent links, rapidshare links (also in comments) or even moving the site to another hosting. I’ll inform you about the outcome of this situation later.
