Do it Yourself: Tiny Battery Lamp

Here’s another product which was probably designed by someone completely bored. This is what I imagine under funny but completely useless product - special Do It Yourself Battery Lamp. Yeah, it’s like LEGO, but you need an extra 9V battery here. The rest is simple - buy one of tens various designes and build your own mini lamp. Sold as “Designer Emulation Kit,” this kit consist of a series of flat pieces that you remove from the printed circuit board, assemble, and hook up to a 9-volt battery. The price is set to 26 bucks per piece, so it won’t ruin your wallet but there are also more useful things you can buy for these money…

    The only way I could see this being useful is if it could fit in a wallet.

    “The price is set to 26 bucks per piece, so it won’t ruin your wallet” - well unlike you Martin, not all of us are big shot lawyers or stock traders to be buying lamps at $26. At $26 it wont ruin your wallet? Er…. for that money they should build the lamp and send it to my house and place it on my bloody desk! If I need a lamp - I’m sure the $10 one at Wal-Mart will do just fine, not giving $26 for something I have to build myself that looked like it came from China for $1.

    I made a lamp that fits in my wallet. It cost only $0.60.

    I took a standard 3v battery (CR2032), attached a wire to one side and covered that side with tape. I then took another wire and attached it to a metallic paperclip that conducts only on one side (one side of the paperclip is also taped). The free ends of the wires are connected to a white LED. So basically what I have is when I clip the battery the right way, the light turns on.

    I used a paperclip instead of a switch because I can then use this same clip to attach the lamp to book. Its light, unobtrusive and pretty handy :)

    9v battery conector 50 cents…
    Circuit board 2 dollar…
    white powerled 1 dollar..

    3.50 total

    22.50 euro’s of development cost?

    Talking of 9V Batteries……………

    What does a 9 Volt Battery and a womans arsehole have in common???

    …..You know it’s wrong, but sooner or later you will touch it with your tongue and it will give you a nasty shock ;-)

    @SyntaxError

    That may be the case but at least the $10 will be made of proper plastic/metal, have a normal bulb, mains lead, plug, switch + flexibility/goose neck so it would be worth $10 and if it stopped working - i only lost $10. The $26 looks like it would fall over and break if you just coughed!
