For me this has always been one of those must have apps and DVT has always been there with it.

Do x64 versions exist? x32 cannot be properly used by 64-bit apps.

so what do people use to watch movies if Divx is supposedly obsolete?

  15. sweetchuk
    March 13th, 2009 | 05:44

aaa .. Divx Pro is not obsolete .. it just hasn't kept pace with better, more fleshed offerings.
The pick of the pack (and has been for a long while now) would be the oft-updated K-lite Mega Pack, found at http://www.codecguide.com

    cheers.

Please, for god's sake, never use divx to encode- there are far better alternatives, and the best (xvid and x264) happen to be free.

For decoding hidef mpeg4 content, divx is now competing with corecodec (coreAVC) for those without decode hardware on newer ATI and nvidia graphics cards. However, if your CPU is fast enough, a free codec from ffdshow may get the job done.

Divx is a second rate solution at best, and used by no-one with an understanding of video encode/decode tools. The Divx company was formed when the code that eventually became xvid was 'forked', creating a superior free project and an inferior commercial product. In other words, divx and xvid evolved from the same code base.

Just use ffdshow, small, lighter and play all videos flawlessly.

Wow… It looks like none of the posters above me noticed that this now features H.264 encoding/decoding in a DivX wrapper.

The update they're getting ready to release to DivX-Certified players is going to allow them to play h.264 in both DivX and MKV containers.

Great job keeping up guys :p

Divx isnt to bad, it can use all cores as well, encodes fast with quads.

DivX-Certified players(50$) sucks ass though, just buy a WDTV Player(90-100$) plays *any* media you throw at it, can connect 1tb external drives, it rocks, have 2tb hd drives connected to it. Usually convert everything down to 80mb h264 episodes, more room for more.

WDTV best media box eva! compared to other crappy media boxes overpriced.

@20 I agree. Too many have a bad taste from long ago about DivX and have not bothered to keep up to pace with the new and improved versions. So those who wish to "mouth off" against it should try it first and then make comments. I personally have been using it for the Converter for years. When virtual dub won't open it for whatever reason, I use this to convert and they always play great. Even correcting audio sync issues. The improvements in this product far outway the past issues with it.

"Over the past few years, you’ve asked us to make some changes to Windows. We listened closely. Now it’s time to share an early look at how we’ve used your feedback."

the only thing i ever asked them to do was to make it work.

even windows 386 worked fine when all you ran was the builtin applets.

DivX is now working to play back XviD
I use this Codec a lot to view Downloaded XviD or DivX
    Movies…
I'm still loving this format giving ability if so wished
to place like 5 movies on one DVD Disc and play it back on
a Player suporting DivX….Or with this Codec playing
through PowerDVD or whatever one might use :)
Thank you for the Updated KeyMaker DVT….as I always
Download from the main Site and then use a KeyMaker. :)
And thanX Kennii for the info here.

Update? Don't you mean revision? If it's an "update", how do I get it into my Philips player? Or is everyone who currently owns a Divx certified player expected to go out and buy a new one each time they decide to update the specs?
