Thirty years ago, aliens made first contact with Earth. Humans waited for the hostile attack, or the giant advances in technology. Neither came. Instead, the aliens were refugees, the last survivors of their home world. The creatures were set up in a makeshift home in South Africa’s District 9 as the world’s nations argued over what to do with them.
Now, patience over the alien situation has run out. Control over the aliens has been contracted out to Multi-National United (MNU), a private company uninterested in the aliens’ welfare — they will receive tremendous profits if they can make the aliens’ awesome weaponry work. So far, they have failed; activation of the weaponry requires alien DNA. The tension between the aliens and the humans comes to a head.

One of the best, if not the best, sci-fi movie in my opinion. A mix of Cloverfield, Independence Day and Transformers. Who thought you could politicise aliens? I certainly didn’t. South Africa wasn't an accidental coincidence for the set of the film, but infact a brilliant setting reflecting the core of the movie plot. The years of apartheid, captivity and poverty are beautifully intertwined into an alien situation. Notice how it took the leading alien in the ripped red-shirt 20 years of confinement to escape the racial segregation and free his people (other aliens), reminded me of Nelson Mandela. Other Alien movies lead us to believe that aliens are a more superior creature and most often destructive. This film put this trend on its head and came out spectacular. I can’t wait for the sequel!
Kamera's repack seems to have far better audio judging from that sample..

Why would you hardcode stuff that's already hardcoded in the film like the hours of "exposure"?
Sux cuz the this seems like the best audio/video combo but the proper subs are what makes this film.

The NFO mentions DEViSE as the English audio source. So how can it be better than their release? Did they apply some filters or something?
Yup, gotta agree quidnunc. Thought it might just be me since I use sennheiser headphones and they pick up distortions more than most PC speakers.
Will be ditching this release in favour of Kamera (just had to edit the sub files to fix the horrible spelling)

Dude, Transformers and especially, Transformers 2 are some of the worst pieces of garbage I have ever seen. I would have walked out of Transformers 2 if I had the chance. It was a god damn stinking pile of filth. Same with the first one. If you consider either of the Transformers films good sci-fi, then you sir, should go watch G.I. Joe or something.
I haven't seen Tranny 2, but the first one was a mediocre movie that was somewhat entertaining and looked good. Part 2 is supposed to be clearly inferior.
Soto has a point: none of the three movies mentioned is great, although all of them were (IMO) fun to watch.
If D9 is going to be compared to other films, then it should be listed alongside GOOD ones like Blade Runner, Matrix, etc.

well i might be way out here but putting them (vision and devise ) side by side they look the same and the vision sample has the exact info ,video and audio, as devise in vlc, the only thing i do see different isthe subs font….

I love both Transformers 1 & 2 – Cloverfield was an okay movie, and Independence day was a good action flick

It was good because it left OUT what made those 3 films rubbish. i.e "Family sticks together", "stupid teen romance", "Stupid talking robots trying to be funny".
So you went to see Transformers, thought it sucked, then went to see transformer2……why? All I can say he must have been worth it afterwards….
The audio on Kamera's release is much better imo. – the audio on this one doesn't sound so clear.

whats good about this movie thats its not the usual american based movie as peter jackson hates americans with a passion its original and a good movie.
I swear the God that there's a slight sync error within audio & video.
The audio in this is terrible compared to Kamera's audio, and that's it!

@26 Soto – Lots of people liked those movies. Yeah they may not be masterpieces of modern cinema but they did what they were made to do, entertain. ID4 is a modern B movie classic.
One of the best movie i have ever seen in my 27 years of existence, truly a Sci-Fi masterpiece IMO.
watched noirs release.very good copy.audio decent enuff.bit muddy in places or could be south african accents.

The video is EXACTLY the same as DEViSE. I'm not sure what the comparison posted is supposed to show … it would be much more effective if it compared this to the DEViSE version. But, then again, it would show that videowise, the two are identical.
And if DEViSE's release is out of sync (and it is … go to 00:40:20, for example) … then so is this. ViSiON sourced from DEViSE.
Reencoding the audio to AAC isn't going to fix any OOS issues.
This is basically DEViSE's R5 with reencoded AAC audio and hardcoded subs.

Whoever says that this film is rubbish, obviously wasnt watching it properly, or just judged it before finishing it. I think this was one of the best sci-fi films i have seen in a long time, to have some great action sequences alongside addressing key issues within our society like racism and greed so well was impressive. Jacksons produced a gem here, cant wait for the sequel!

If you were concerned with the audio in the previous releases, then do check out the samples before downloading.. Trust me.
Everyone who disagrees with me that this is one of the best sci-fi, if not the best, movie ever needs to SHUT UP.
I said this is a mix of Cloverfield, Independence Day and Transformers because it took the best things out of these movies and turned it into something spectacular. Cloverfield for the camera which made us feel like we were in the middle of the action and very personal with the characters, Transformers because of the robot and that fantastic action scene, some bits of independence day too, like flying into the spaceship etc.
And not only that, like Rp(157) said, this movie also managed to addeess key issues in our societies like racism and greed.
This movie made you look at yourself and question yourself. Not many alien movies do that!

District 9 director, Neill Blomkamp says in an interview that this movie is not about the past but about the NEW South Africa the way it is now.
I have seen this movie twice now (at the cinema) and all I can say is wow! You have to give it 40 or so mins to get start but when it does wow!

pretty damn pathetic that I had to wait til comment 152 to find out it's out of sync, and 152 is correct, it's the exact same release video wise, and the audio is still out of sync after 40 mins and gets worse as it goes.
