Well, it seems like LOL is trying to “sell” this app. I’m using XP and it didn’t work for me.

there is an update out for this app that corrects some vista users slow downs. bugs are to be expected when ever a new version of the same app comes out.

Ok, so in theory I like the program… Had been using Ashampoo Magical Defrag 2 for its abilty to background defrag. Great feature, and does a WONDERFUL job of defragging a hd very quickly. After uninstalling Magical Defrag, and installing this program, it found a very minimal amount of fragmented files. After reading the ENTIRE manual, I decided to use the File/Folder option on strict sorting w/ Respect ini and move directories next to MFT. High Priority sorted with Windows first then Program files, then the rest. Respect Archive also set, at 50% unused option. After a few hours of sorting, it was done. The computer really seemed to be running about the same — possibly a bit slower. After leaving the computer on over night and then coming back to it this afternoon it was running incredibly SLOW!!! I cleaned my comp (Ashampoo One-Click-Optimizer followed by Privacy Eraser Pro — as I have always done) and then defragged my ram. Still no noticable change. Any clues as to whats going on??? The computer was running great prior to this program…

keep in mind that this is new version not an update so i assume that there will be some bugs they have to fix.

for the people that think it takes to long to defrag, think about which setting you are going to use and try to stick with it. after several defrags using the same settings (such as: auto, volatility, folder/filename etc.) you should see things speed up as far as doing the same type of defrag. if you jump arround testing all the different settings….of course its going to take longer, it has to sort the whole hdd again. it is not the time that it takes to defrag that i am after…….it is the end result of my pc performance.

so if you looking for quick defrag and nothing else then look elsewhere, but if you like being able to choose what goes where on the hdd then look no further because there is no other defrag app out there that can do what this app does.

if you got all the time in the world then try to use your favorite defragger and this one and try some bench mark test of the end result and let us know how you do.

It seems like every critical comment, this app receives, results in an “inexperienced user” insult.
Instead, why not describe the success you had with this app and the system(s) you’re using.
I’m not a noob, know how to read help files, and this app did NOT work for me.
I’ve used several versions of Perfect Disk and Diskeeper. I prefer PD, but after about one year of use, it froze during the “Analyze” procedure (Raxco is aware of this problem) and could therefore not defrag. DK seems faster, but my HD also seems to get defragmented faster (does not consolidate free space well). So it needs to be run more often (every 2 to 5 days).

FYI: I’m using Windows XP SP2, 100 GB 2.5″ 7200 RPM drive which is about 27% free, 64 GB used with about 126,000 files. I average 1 or 2 GB of downloads every day or two. And I run anti-virus, anti-spyware, Registry Mechanic, and CC cleaner about once or twice a week.

This has to be the worst defrag program I have ever used. It’s very slow in defragging and the funny part is that after you run it and it claims it’s done and there are no fragmented files, run it again and wow…there’s hundreds of megabytes more of fragmented files supposedly. Keep running it and every new time you open it even after you just ran it, the program will find fragmented files.

I do not recommend this software at all.

prime example of someone who does not know how to read help files. 200hours lol that might be a bug or the hdd is so active that it has no priority on giving real-time estimate.

make sure that you have nothing mounted on a virtual drive, sometimes that causes problems, as it will try to defrag something that isnt even there.

like i said above, give it about a month to learn how to use it to your needs before you pass judgement. another good way to use this app is for external hdd that have alot of music, pictures, movies and you only want to access your music quite quickly…..you can set it up to push all the unneeded stuff to the inner tracks and out of the way and all the music on the quicker outter tracks of your hdd platter. seek time is almost instant.

i wont put down diskeeper because i like it too so to each its own. but dont be so closed minded and make room for new things.

I just tried this. Had high hopes…very disappointed instead.
It just kept going and going, at one point the estimated completion time was 200 hours! Even after I choose the “quicker” options.
So after about 10+ hours and no significant / noticeable difference, I ran Diskeeper to fix the increased fragmentation from this app.
Thanks, but no thanks.

LOL been using ultimatedefrag for several years and almost sounded like an adware when mentioning how good it was. i was a diskeeper fan for awhile, then tried ultimatedefrag and never looked back because of what it can do and is very light not bloated.

noticed this new version had removed boot-time defrag, maybe they will bring it back with new updates.

this thing is awsome for putting your games on outer track of hdd as well as the OS for quicker responce an loading of game-time.

heh check their website and notice that they are bold enough to put all other deraggers down …….all except one because of its I-FAAST technology.

hope this helps you non-believers to at least give it a month to figure out how to use it properly to your needs.

O&O IMO is the better of the defraggers out there. It has background defragging that can be done while you work and has less of a system load (trying seeding your torrents with other defraggers). Plus you have access to a host of other O&O utilities.

Though I may just have to D/L this one as the GUI is cool looking.:)
