The study of ancient societies is a fascinating, and never ending task. New discoveries are constantly reshaping and molding our views of the ancient world. In many respects, those far off times seem remarkably close to our own. To others, they appear spectacularly different. In this episode we investigate the truth behind some of the sensational aspects of ancient beliefs. We investigate the evidence of human sacrifice, including the disturbing evidence of ritual infanticide – the killing of children. We probe the widespread practice of exchanging sex for money in the temples of the gods. The evidence suggests that prostitution is indeed the oldest profession. We unearth the evidence of ancient flood myths and look at how attitudes to early beliefs are changing.

Peer into the darker side of the ancient world, where immoral acts, including prostitution and child sacrifice, were an important part of temple life.

Whats this talk about Rome and Greece? The first cities are at least 2000 years older than the greek cities. So do they talk about those in this series or is it just centered around western history?
