Directory Opus v9.1-YAG

Directory Opus is a so called “windows explorer replacement”, it have more advanced options than usual windows one… Btw, this is my last appz post in 2007. Best wishes in New Year from whole RlsLog staff! ;-)

Description:

Directory Opus is the complete File Management and Explorer Replacement Solution for Windows.

A file manager is, at its simplest, a utility program which presents lists of files and allows the user to perform actions of some kind on those files. File managers are useful for moving files between folders, making backup copies of files, viewing pictures and playing sounds, running other utility programs on lists of files, deleting unwanted files and many other “housekeeping” tasks.

Directory Opus goes beyond the simple file manager metaphor, and offers you a complete replacement for Windows Explorer and many other utility programs for handling FTP, ZIP, viewing files and images, running slideshows and more. It provides you with all this within a user-friendly and fully-configurable environment within which you can access and manage your important data with a minimum of effort. Harness the power of your computer like never before!

Total Commander is the best. Have been using it for few years now… tabs, ftp, file copy queue or copy in background (so you don’t just wait when it completes), colored file and folders (not just by extension, but by date), exe-viewer and info, seamless unpack, descript.ion support, hex-viewer, damn! I can go endlessly!!

Count me as a TC fan also. I always preferred Disk Master (similar to TC) on the Amiga over Dir Opus as well. Not to mention that TC still supports Windows 98, whereas Dir Opus seems to only support XP and above.

    Software rating: 7/10

Like Windows explorer but with more capabilities. And those extra capabilities I can live without.

Opus 4 ruled, Opus 5.0 sucked, Opus 5 Magellan grew on me (and in the end I couldn’t use my Amiga without it), but the first Opus versions in Windows I never could get used to.

Konqueror does the job these days.

I liked Powerdesk too, but had too many bugs with it after some time. I switched to Directory Opus some months ago and never regreted it. I try TC but it’s not my thing.

This is a really good explorer alternative. It has loads of features that i couldn’t live without today cause i’m just so damn used to them. XYplorer also is very good.

These two links will give you all the information, reviews and screenshots on 25 of the best explorer alternatives:

there was never a problem with 9 and neither is there any problem with this 9.1..

imo it’s better than TC but i haven’t tried powerdesk which is mentioned a previous post.. will check it out though

i highly recommend Directory Opus though.. i couldn’t possibly change back to standard explorer.. no way!

    December 31st, 2007 | 20:26

after having had a look at powerdesk webpage and taken a tour to view screenshots and whatnot i’m not gonna touch it.. there is just no way in hell that it can compete with Directory Opus..

I have tried about 5 different explorer replacements and this is the only one I have liked. Yes, I tried Total commander, but this is better imo. There are about 10 billion settings and you can configure it almost anyway you want.
The last one the crack worked fine, but it screwed up some settings.

Just a quick update. I just tried to import the key via the Load the text file and that worked fine. But when you type it in manual it does not work. Just for everyone here be aware.

TC is the best for people who work with files a lot because it’s by far the most customizable, as in mine has a completely different menu layout, not a single button visible, everything is keyboard driven, and many additional commands such as par2, mplayer, lame, and other commands added. The default TC setup is pretty bad, look for something called “TotalCommanderXP” package, it’s total commander cracked and setup by few russian hackers. It will show you just what TC really should look like, and how powerful it is.

Directory Opus is pretty good, probably the best of it’s kind, but it’s not as fast with the keyboard access. Also, it’s more of an explorer style, not NC style, which I like more.

Any way, quick question, any one know of a good Open Source commander project. I need to use something in my business, and I need to add some custom functions. Did that in TC, but I cant afford hundreds of copies of TC and I draw the line at personal use when it comes to piracy.

Version 4 of Directory Opus was already far more customizable then TC ever was, the host OS being AmigaOS helped alot though. Never liked 5 and beyond.

This may be faster than rapid share for some. At least there’s no waiting/delay for people without RS accounts.

I have used total commander now since win3.1 and it a lot of add ons and stuff. The version recomend is “TC UP3.2″ it does have it all in 90mb. Fast filebrowsing with tabs and good shortcuts. And also verry fast viewers forimages video and music. With tons of other apps.

    @x0054:

I use UltraExplorer which is an OSS project and built on Delphi and CBuilder components, and screenshots here http://www.mustangpeak.net/subdomains/ultraexplorer/ultraexplorer.gif
    http://www.mustangpeak.net/subdomains/ultraexplorer/listviewtools.gif
    http://www.mustangpeak.net/subdomains/ultraexplorer/breadcrumb.gif

Quoted from the site at http://www.mustangpeak.net/subdomains/ultraexplorer/index.html

” Some of the key features of UltraExplorer are:
    * Drop Stack Window – Drop blocks of files into the drop stack for quick access later
    * Favorites Window – Build a favorites tree with any object you like from the shell. The tree is fully aware of drag and drop and the clipboard. Use the objects in the favorites tree just like the normal treeview and listview controls.
    * Command Line Window – Can’t give up DOS and a command line? UltraExplorer has a built in command line window that stays synced with the current view of the application.
    * Filter Window – Too many files to find what you want? Use UltraExplorers Filter window. Create new filter arguments by:
o dragging and dropping objects to the window
o using the selected objects in the active listview
    * Folders Window – Ultra fast Folder treeview that is positionable anywhere in the application.
    * History Window – User defined level of previously browsed folder. Objects in this window can be used just as in the treeview or listviews, drag drop and clipboard aware.
    * Listview Window – A secondary listview window that can be used identical to the fixed listview. Allows for a dual listview display if desired.
    * Tabbed Folders – There are several ways to create a new tab
o Simply press the Control key when clicking on a folder and the folder is browsed in a new tab.
o CTRL-T creates a clone of the current tab (CTRL-W closes the current tab)
o Use the menu item in the Main Menu under “File”
o Use the right mouse click context menu while hovering over the Tabs
    * Task Window – The Task window accepts plug in DLLs to extend UltraExplorer beyond its powerful built in capablilites. The DLL can be built in Borland Delphi and distributed separately. All that is necessary is the DLL file be places in the Plug In folder within the UltraExplorer install folder and the plugin will be available to the user.
o Examples of plugins and the source code for the default plug in that come with UltraExplorer can be downloaded here.”

UltraExplorer also supports Total Commander Lister plugins in its Viewer Window. After you install a plugin, you will be able to view new file formats in the Viewer in Plugins view mode.

For some reason this installer did not create an uninstaller and I had to manually delete the files and clean the registry. Also it constantly calls home and generally behaves badly. 8===D Dopus

Is there any way i can find a working serial for this version (9.1.0.0.2893.x86) ???

I tried everything: various serials found on internet and the patch from SvensK (originally for the 8.2.2 version).
Nothing worked. I also downloaded other versions (same result).

Maybe the 8.2.2 will work with the patch but it would be nice to get the latest version ;-)

    Thanks to you all

tried speed commander, xyplorer, total commander (and ultra prime version) and salamander, some of them were decent, but nothing really comes close to dopus for sure. im back to stay.
as for TC, it has alot of features, but it can be a pain to configure and get around in. dopus however, is not.
