Torq Conectiv only costs around £150 ($300), used to have direct drives record players but had to get rid of them – might have to take it up again.

this is definately a piece of software to try and then to buy, because it really is the industries standard. I’ve been working with Pro Tools for about 5 years and it IS the best there is, starting from the numerous add-ons, vst’s and other plug-ins and it connects with virtually every other piece of professional audio-editing/sampling software. loving it totally. :)

The M-Powered still isn’t the same as the full version of Pro Tools. The M-Powered has limited features so it’s still not what the pro’s use. You have to get the Digidesign hardware to get the “real” Pro Tools.

yes if you have the updates to the vista driver for the m box or what ever you are running. But as for the updates for vista usesser that a matter of the companys playing cechup and coming out with the drivers. some have , but for a long time when the vista first most did not.

This software will work with hardware less than $500 dollars. I have the 1010LT and I’m sure its compatible.. all maudio stuff should be really.

And yes, this won’t be the top of the line stuff. I learned pro tools LONG time ago, and got to work with it on ProControl when I took audio school. Although some would prefer Cubase for all around sound quality, Pro Tools is far and away the best for Post Production and SFX. Music production I may still stick with Cubase..

You guys that said “NOT what the pros use” are SO uneducated. Pro Tools M-Powered is *NOT* a stripped down version of Pro Tools. It just simply means it will work with M-Audio interfaces, whereas Pro Tools LE requires a Digidesign interface. The software is the same, just different hardware requirements.

  34. men
    January 27th, 2008 | 16:41

it actually *is* a stripped down version of protools as is LE (stands for LIGHT EDITION genius) The full version being HD etc.

Oh, and did I mention I’m a professional, doing soundtrack work for major film studios, along producing several label released works be some of the leading lights in the rock underground?

You should try the demo….then buy it!!!!…. the main reason this software is so expensive for the people who actually buy it….. the only way for the developers to keep making quality products and evolving sound production is too charge a fortune because it’s so easy to STEAL….. if you like the product, buy it!

Can the people who have downloaded this program, and have it operating correctly, stop saying how easy it is to do and just explain how to freakin do it? The directions dont make since. Someone please just give us some directions that make since?

M-Audio and DigiDesign are both part of Avid. Its the only reason why M-Audio interfaces got a compatible version of Pro Tools. I saw that some people were asking if this makes beats. This is a software based DAW, not a sequencer. Pro Tools comes with MIDI built into the software, but its not great. Digital Performer(DP), Reason, and cubase are sequencers and are probably what you’re looking for.

To clarify some things on the different versions…
M-Powered, LE, HD and TDM are all the same Pro Tools! There is no light edition, or crap edition. The only difference between the versions is that certain plug-ins are available for certain versions. If you track a session on an HD or TDM system, you would still be able to open that session in M-powered or LE and edit, mix down, and bounce it to disk.

as for iLok authorization…if it doesn’t work, try to find another iLok authorization. If its too hard to do that, buy an mbox. if you already have one, buy pro tools. If recording/engineering is your passion, the price is worth the end result of your mix.

if anyone decides to purchase M-powered or LE(not HD ar TDM since they start close to $10,000 and only come with the HD/TDM hardware) get the Elastic Time plug in and the Celemony Melodyne Plug in. Melodyne is amazing.

…in answer to the iLok problems…you have to “copy & paste” the patches…”drag & drop” will not work…

  50. grimmlord
    May 19th, 2008 | 09:48

    @ BRandoramo

Pro Tools, DP, and Cubase are all DAWs that do essentially the same thing. MIDI is standard on at least PT and Cubase, not entirely sure on DP. Reason is a “virtual studio,” meaning it replaces (or can) all the outboard gear so many people cannot afford.

Second, there’s no such thing as a “TDM” version of Pro Tools. There’s LE, M-Powered, and HD. TDM refers to Time Division Multiplexing: a feature in HD that allows processing to be done on the DSP chips you need to run HD. You may also recognize TDM due to the fact that when you’re on an HD system and inserting a plug-in on a channel, aux, etc it will give you the option to insert either an RTAS or TDM plugin.

Third, the differences between versions like HD and LE are track counts, voicing, DSP, and stuff like multi-track Beat Detective. It’s just not what type of plugins are available for what. The price for a starting HD system is around $13,000 USD. Add another $10k if you want the Control 24, and even more for any of the ICONs.

Lastly, this program does not “make beats.” If you’re that stupid that you need to ask that question, stick to Fruity Loops or whatever you’re currently using to “make beats.”

i’ve went throught the installation of the program and now i’m opening it (on vista) and it’s telling me that it requires iLok authorization but can’t find iLok. about 10 people have already asked this question and some guy told u to copy and past the patches… what patches and paste them where? all i have is a notepad file called Debug-128576765196070000 and README. it won’t let me past any of the debug files because they are just text.

CAn I ask (por state) this needs Maudio hardware I am guessing it does not dupe the system by installing a dummy driver to fool protools into thinking MAudio or Protools interface is connected?

Re Cubase 4 (*Cabal*) I have grabbed every version released so far. It may install and loads…but dude it is not at all functional, not even the portable version.

Lets us know (usual place ;) ) if anything new crops up…thanks

if you want to know the difference between the versions f pro tools then read a book n it. that way you may even actually learn about the software and not say stupid things like "m-powered is a crappy strip down version" or "can i mix beats on this". m-powered, le, and hd are the same program but with different features. like grimmlord said, there are differences between the track count and such between le and hd. m-powered doesn't include all the plugins that le includes but it is still the same DAW. it works fine and you can even use your m-audio hardware with it. now stop making stupid little comments.
