Diary of the Dead 2007 LiMiTED DVDRiP XviD-SUNSPOT

I previously posted about the CAM of this movie which was released by group TRG, but now we get not a TS, R5 or DVDScr, but jump directly to a DVDRip from SUNSPOT. Great news for Zombie lovers (does that sound wrong?). This is a film by the classic Horror/Zombie director George. A Romero, which should mean a lot to you even if you’ve only dabbled in horror. There is an aspect of this film which I personally will enjoy, which is the fact that its shot similarly to films like Cloverfield and .REC (i.e “Amateurishly”). It gives a horror film such an authentic feel which feels fresh compared to all the other stuff out there. Enjoy the gore.

Quality: The quality of this release is very good for a 1CD DVDRip. Unfortunately it seems that less and less 2 CD releases are being released by the major scene groups these days. Image quality looks crisp (a slight sepia look, which I find quite annoying, but thats just post-production on the film) and the audio sounds very good as well.

Legendary director George A. Romero proves that his career isn’t one foot in the grave with this fifth entry in his zombie series. For DIARY OF THE DEAD, Romero goes back to the indie roots of NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD as he focuses on a young team of filmmakers as they try to fend off zombie attacks.

Looking forward to seeing this. Regardless of what anyone thinks about slow, shambling zombies, (which makes sense since they are um… f-ing dead!), Romero movies always remain watchable. Sometimes what they lack in scares they make up for in compelling authentic characters or just plain viewability. If that makes any sense.

Also I think the reason RLSLOG doesn’t post info about DVDRs release is because many people just download the DVDRip XviDs. There are so many DVD players and consoles that play XviD (or DivX) files that people just don’t bother with the DVDRs anymore.

“I already downloaded the cam version but quality ws pooooor”

No, it wasn’t. The cam was very good.

“worst horror film ever. waste of time!!!!”

Obviously some people have no taste in horror films. The only thing that is a waste of time is your opinion, which is backed by absolutely no reason at all.

This movie is a true classic. Storyline, acting, effects, are all way above average. Not too much gore/zombie action compared to Romero’s previous outings, but this has none of the overdone studio crap that ruined land of the dead. Keep in mind that this is another of the “handheld camcorder” type flicks. So you might want to take your dramamine before watching it if you’re already prone to dizziness.

Thanks for posting, really looking forward to this. George is the master at zombie movies. @1 get banned.

Seriously though, are scene groups getting lazy, what’s with the crappy 1CD releases? Nobody burns to CD anymore anyway, this is the era of BluRay, where’s my 50GB release?

    April 24th, 2008 | 03:44

    @60

You may like to burn to blurays/dvds and what not, but are you willing to download such a large amount? I, for one, don’t live in such a fortunate country where you get truely unlimited downloads.

Thus, I really appreciate that scene groups are still considering people like me (whether directly or indirectly) and will continue to appreciate them until we all are able to experience what you seemingly already have.

Im down with the DVDR’s too. They are more of a pain in the “bottom” than the xvids. For someone like me with a big LCD HDTV; I only go for the DVDR’s unless the DVDR isn’t on pb.org, then in that case I get a 2CD. I watched REPLICA’s DVDR of CLOVERFIELD and it was REAL NICE for a DVDR. Yah I too wish too see more DVDR’s, but thats a lot of work on the other end. It took me 2 months to get the DVDR of SUNSHINE and by that time it was already out… Anyways thanks for the xvid version anyways. .pc.

2 CD rips are dieing for a reason… for movies of average length a 1 cd rip seems to be pleasing to the average person… Don’t agree? go to any torrent search site and see what percentage of movie rips are 700 mb…

maybe you should do a poll about it ;)

  66. bojangles
    April 24th, 2008 | 04:58

I have thought about the whole ‘1 CD’ vs ‘2 CD’ thing before, and the reality is that most people are either using these files on single layer DVDs, Hard Drives, or flash drives, and that CDs have been a much less commonly used format and size needed for at least a couple of years now that DVD media is so common and priced similarly to CD media. My suggestion would be neither a ‘1 CD’ or ‘2 CD’ standard, I’d rather see a new standard that was either about 746MB or about 896MB, the reason being that DVDs are likely used very commonly and a DVD holds about 4480MB of data, therefore 746MB x 6 = 4476MB, and 896MB x 5 = 4480MB. I’d much prefer 746MB or 896MB, choose one or the other and then the quality will see a small improvement and the size will be optimized for a more current standard, DVD media instead of CD media. And if it is a particularly long film and 746/896MB isn’t sufficient, then don’t double the size, just add 50% to the size, aka 1119MB or 1344MB for very long films. So you could have 5 or 6 standard files to one DVD, or you could have 2 standard (896) + 2 larger (1344) files to a DVD, or 3 standard (746) + 2 larger (1119) files to a single DVD.

I know that sounds a bit complicated, but it would actually be quite easy and would make sense in practice. Bottom line, if you’re going to have a standard size, at least have the standard fit current media constraints, not the now far less commonly used CD constraints. Have a new standard designed to fit multiples of the 4480MB size of DVDs that are much more commonly used. And the other common alternative of Hard Drives, obviously fitting to a particular file size is not relevant in those cases.

Why do people keep going on about 2 cd’s they are crap who wants a movie split into two parts?! I am glad that they are releasing 1cd more often as 2cd is bigger and 1cd is easily enough good quality. The diffrence in quality is minimal if a 1cd rip is done right.

I am a huge Romero fan and I hated this movie. Romero was way in your face about technology and how people misuse it. It was a poorly written script from someone who has no idea on how the world works. Maybe he would like to live during simpler times instead, I don’t know, if just came off like that. As far as the gore is concerned the Amish guy was great and couple of scenes here and there. It’s the worst one out of all the dead films. Don’t get me wrong, I still enjoyed it cause I worshiped the guy, but, I have to admit it when he f’s up and he did.

Maaaaaaan what a horrible movie. The whole “First Person” idea is pretty crap in my opinion, and only thing it can actually contribute is to give a more “realistic” or “genuine” feeling to the movie.
But the thing is, acting is so bad, people behave so unrealistically, and dialogues are so incredibly unrealistic that the “realistic” feeling is totally lost and you end up with a crap, cheap movie with anoying camerawork.
Leave the First Person to fake amateur porn.

    Just watched it.

Entertaining whilst sitting on a coach, but certainly not the most entertaining 90 minutes of my life.

For all it’s moition sickness, I think REC did a much better job of getting that first person, claustrophobic feel to it. They succeeded because they keep the action confined to one building and a few characters which is what the original dawn of the dead / Night of the living dead did.

The problem with this one was that they seemed to drive from one set-piece disaster to another. I didn’t care if any of them got home or not. At least Scobby Do has a begining, middle and end.

The “social commentary” was brutally rammed down your throat.

Hats off to GR for making the effort, but (for me at least) it didn’t work.

I have to agree with sybull
REC was an awesome movie compared to this. Again it’s a first person zombie movie( spanish) but was beautifully done with a more realistic feel to it.Actually scary i recommend it. I also that the U.S. is gonna try to remake it for release later this fall under the title Quarantine…

I was trying to refine why I did not enjoy this film as much as REC, I it dawned on me…the narrative followed that of a game pretty much, when you blasted your way through one level after another. The levels were like this

    Prologue. Lots of FMV’s & pre-rendered scenes

Level 1 - Driving down highway, dodging & running over zombies. Acquire pistol

Level 2- Hospital. Get from A to B. Acquire 2nd camera

Level 3- Farmhouse. Escape using variety of farm equipment (scyth, dynamite etc)

Level 4- Warehouse. Hunt & Find rogue zombie. Acquire loads of weapons and health packs

Level 5 - What’s-her-face parents house. Hunt & Kill parents.

Level 6- The Mansion. Navigate the grounds and try and locate the hidden panic room

Congratulations You have completed the game.

sybull now that you mentioned it it did follow a game like level of survival format. where as you mentioned REC was more confined to a building where the camera crew had an initial realistic purpose kinda similar to authentic vibe you got from Blair witch…. Romero is a god but the first person camera action he created reallyhas no no real purpose……….. Wow zombies are takin over lemme find my camera to document it……….lol

I watched Diary and I took it as a modern day version of Night. As for opinions, this is one of those films that either you like it or you don’t, there is no middle ground on this one.

As for the promotional aspect of Diary, it seems that the Wienstien Company didn’t want the same situation as they did with GRINDHOUSE so they decided to quiet let this one die without much support by them.

And for all those people who say “Don’t download this because this movie is (bad, terrible, sh*t, or other inane quality reason)”, the only reason you should tell a person not to download a file is if there is something technically wrong with a file, not with the quality of the film itself.

In my place of work, I can’t tell customers not to buy a film because it’s bad, I can only tell them what I thought of a film and it’s ultimately their decision whether to spend their well earned money on the product. I can tell customers that they should buy one thing over another, if it is a better value, but it’s totally up to them in the end.

Remember, give people your thoughts about what they should watch, but don’t give people your opinion about what they WILL watch. It’s improper behaviour on RLSLog.
