i hate the way some people like chooga who make comments on this show are so ignorant of what derren brown was trying to actually portray in the programme. the entire point is to show the viewers how somebody can become so convinced by a series of wins that they will go to extreme measures with that trust in the system. the fact that he ‘promised’ a fool-proof method was the bl**dy point – it wouldnt be a very good illusion if he said at the beggining ‘this plan doesnt actually work, it is a con’ would it!! you morons please come back when you have a basic understanding of either illusions or entertainment, as i hardly believe a show to which we knew the outcome of instantly would be very entertaining. the guy is a legend and funny too – i loved it when he chucked that girl in a river! try to complain about that chooga! was it really water?? hahaha douchebag.

He starts with a big lie. At the beginning of the show the lying SOG said ” …. I have developed a guaranteed system for winning at the horses. This system allows me to predicted 24 hours in advance … which horse will win …”. There is no prediction. There is no guaranteed winning. There is only guaranteed loss. Buy 1 ticket for each horse and you are guranteed to get 1 winning ticket but averall you are guaranteed to lose. The SOG is playing the audience.

Can someone tell the propability that a random release at rlslog get 10 smart, interesting, on topic comments in a row? I bet it’s more unlikely than winning 6 horse races in a row without “the system”.

You might be able to make a person believe or perceive himself as winning every race by making bet for every horse and at the end of the race give him the winning ticket. For every winning ticket there are 5 losing tickets.

There is no ’system’. With 6 horses running, for every winner there are 5 losers. So the same for those who bet (assuming equal number of person bet on each of the horse). The person who won 5 times in a row is only known after the 5th race in which there is 1 winner and 7776 ‘losers’. If you atart with about 61 million people and do the same thing, you can get 1 person who won 10 times in a row.But you cannot choose a person and make him win 10 times in a row.You cannot even choose a person and make him win any 1 race.

This scam has been around for years. I read about this “system” over 20 years ago, when the people were actually picked randomly from a phonebook.(E-mail was a foreign word.)

@57 – there are two options for how he got the last pick.

1 – he bet on every horse in the race
2 – he bet on no horses in the race – and had a self made “winning” ticket for every horse. They then payed the ticket out themselves or arranged to re-imburse the bookie.

In respect to how the 1.4 billion to one trick was done (which is btw a variation of the classical “book read” trick) – I can perhaps provide a hint. Why do you think they used Polaroids rather than regular digital prints? Perhaps it has something to do with Polaroids being thick and having a large border around them.

Actually there were two tricks in that segment – the 1,2,3,4 order which was a multi-sleeved envelope (most probably) and the photo-selection trick which was one trick presented in three different ways to make it seem more incredible.
