Derren Brown The System PROPER WS PDTV XViD-PVR

Update: PVR just released the proper version of this program. REMAX sucked so bad on this one, with missing dialogue, horrible oos troubles and everything else. Good thing I waited for a proper version. As of now the two private sites that have it 1, 2.
I have posted a few of Derren’s shows, and I enjoyed them a great deal. One of those episodes I posted in 2007 had clips of Derren coaching a random track spectator on how to use the power of conviction to win on a ticket that clearly did not win. In The System, Derren uses his own system of his unique combination of skills to create guaranteed horse racing wins. Beyond that, he explains how to do this ‘at home’. The show follows an average member of the public that Derren chose to run experiment on, in order to prove his amazing abilities. News article to read first here. Once again, another interesting rls by remax. Get ready to become GobSmacked!

Derren Brown has a system for winning at the horses. In this one-hour special, the maestro of mind control anonymously tells a single mum from London which horse will win at the next day’s races - again and again - culminating in a final, massive bet.

Proper Reason: Jesus, did you watch it? REMAX didn’t. Out of sync for more or
less the whole episode, signal breakups galore, and a pile of
missing dialogue.

I nearly threw my laptop out of the window, it was unwatchable
so here’s a proper.

there is no secret system - it’s plainly obvious - if there was, there would be no bookies in the world anymore. what he does do is quite clever though, and very sneaky, and worth a watch.

Not much of a gambler myself, but anyone into that sort of stuff could find it a good program to watch :D

They would be following more than one person and film different outcomes until one of them won. In other words they had a person betting on every horse in the final race who they’d followed for weeks.

Derren Brown is an illusionists and you believed the simple illusion.

  23. B0B
    February 2nd, 2008 | 12:26

Derren Brown picks “random” people from the audience. They might be “random” but the fact that they are in the audience in the first place means they are gullible tw*ts that will believe anything he says.

He is an illusionist…aka it’s not reaaal. Not a miracle worker.

  24. dciple
    February 2nd, 2008 | 12:39

I beg to differ, he’s not an illusionist, douchebag David Copperfield is an illusionist, Derren Brown is a mentalist, he plays tricks with your mind. Nothing fake about that, read the books he wrote to understand how some of his tricks work. They are usually very simple in concept but very hard to perform. Plus he’s a charming bloke.

  25. WandL
    February 2nd, 2008 | 12:46

24: Derren Brown calls himself an illusionist on just about every intro to one of his shows.
I am a big fan of his shows, got most of them, but I was really disappointed in this, figured it out when he had all those photos in that room, personally I think this is one of the worst shows he has ever done.

  26. dciple
    February 2nd, 2008 | 13:08

indeed, he is a “psychological” illusionist (check wiki), I really don’t think he sees himself as a spitting image of David Blaine/Copperfield

  27. devnull
    February 2nd, 2008 | 13:32

@ 16 (lanemeyer) - No he didn’t pick the last horse. He bet on every horse in the last race. This is why he placed the bet. He then switched tickets after the race completes - after noting how nice and crumpled the womens ticket was so his matched. You also seem him fold the ticket when he presents it to her to dissuade her from looking at it.

Maybe it is just me, but this show seemed very obvious from the outset. It is any extended version of the magicians gambit.

I’m surprised they showed the room full of Polaroids as this really gave “system” away.

    @27

How do you suppose he pulled off the 1.4 Billion chance trick with the 4 people and the polaroids then?

And I very much doubt they bet £4000 on every horse in the last race. If they did it would have came out, if not before the show, but definitely after.

People feel let down by this show because they actually believed that a mircale system would be revealed to them, and change their lives forever…

    @20 mropinion

“The bloke is a tw@t and anybody who believes any of the tricks he performs are even bigger tw@ts”

Why would you say that. He tells you how he does most of his stuff and never pretends to be anything other than a trickster. The joy of watching his programs is partly working out how he did it before the reveal and also watching someone with skill do his stuff.

I also like how he often takes apart classic scams and cons to show how they are done. The funniest thing by far i’ve ever seen him do was make that women see her own death as a practical joke.

And yes most of the people on his show are gullible, but what would be the point if they weren’t.

  32. shane
    February 2nd, 2008 | 17:13

He’s got way more integrity than most religious leaders, fortune tellers, astrologists and so on.

If you want to know more about what he does, look into cold reading and Neuro linguistic programming. It’s clever stuff.

  33. motionfx
    February 2nd, 2008 | 17:58

The cold reading part is correct, however he only uses a small amount of NLP.

The secret is to mix up a few genuine psychological tricks with ridiculously blatant trickster style tricks.

People perceive the tricks to be genuine.

A big part of mentalism is about developing a persona that people can believe too.

    I’ve said enough =P

  37. motionfx
    February 2nd, 2008 | 20:53

    @36, 35 is just jealous =P

His tricks work because he uses the guise of NLP/psychology to make his blatant tricks seem genuine.

The tenent mentalists rely on is 95% showmanship (ie acting), the rest is just doing the trick right.

Anyone released the torrent yet? I still cannot find it on mainstream torrent sites. Please someone release one =D

  38. John Beagrie
    February 2nd, 2008 | 21:08

He claimed to have a fool proof system to beat the bookies. Putting thousands of bets on i a pyramid system is hardly what I would call “beating the bookies”.

I have no doubt he is a phoney, he showed himself up for what he was last night.

Thanks for the release though, although Im most dissapointed. I had planned on getting rich quick on the horses this weekend. Back to work on Monday for me it is then.

  39. lanemeyer
    February 2nd, 2008 | 21:17

so saying he did have a bet on every horse in the final race (which i doubt, because it WOULD have come out in the press plus it would have messed up the number of people in the scam) how did he get the pundits to pick the exact polariods & envelopes and stand in the exact spot…

didnt see any switching of tickers at the end myself.

also in his previous show he made the bookies pay out when the ticket was a dud….how did he do that?

  40. Zleet
    February 2nd, 2008 | 21:36

Why are people saying he’s a phoney.

I’ve watched his shows for years and never heard him once claim he has any kind of special power. The only claims he’s ever made are that he uses trickery and misdirection combined with suggestion to do his “shows”.

He said on the show he had a way of making a person win all those horse races in a row and did just that, only he used trickery to pull it off (which is kind of his job). And in an fun way showed how some sports tips scams work. Then he did the final horse bit which was probably slight of hand as i’ve seen him lift watches by shaking hands in another show.

I wish I could find the torrent as well… or even a youtube or rapidshare link…

However, from what I gather from people’s reports, I hope this is not that start with x people, tell each one a different horse is going to win, repeat with the winners. Because if it is then it’s been done a loooooong time ago (I remember it being on “Ed” http://imdb.com/title/tt0247091/), so Derren has better have mixed up something else in it :)

hey guys, you missed the whole point of this programme! If you read his book, you’ll see that Derren is opposed to all Alternative Medicine. This elaborate show was to try and convince us all that if we think we have been cured by an ‘alternative’ therapy, then it must have been all in our head

I wish he explained how he got that last pick

  57. devnull
    February 4th, 2008 | 12:28

@57 - there are two options for how he got the last pick.

1 - he bet on every horse in the race
2 - he bet on no horses in the race - and had a self made “winning” ticket for every horse. They then payed the ticket out themselves or arranged to re-imburse the bookie.

In respect to how the 1.4 billion to one trick was done (which is btw a variation of the classical “book read” trick) - I can perhaps provide a hint. Why do you think they used Polaroids rather than regular digital prints? Perhaps it has something to do with Polaroids being thick and having a large border around them.

Actually there were two tricks in that segment - the 1,2,3,4 order which was a multi-sleeved envelope (most probably) and the photo-selection trick which was one trick presented in three different ways to make it seem more incredible.

  61. sumner
    February 5th, 2008 | 05:58

This scam has been around for years. I read about this “system” over 20 years ago, when the people were actually picked randomly from a phonebook.(E-mail was a foreign word.)

  62. cempaka
    February 6th, 2008 | 12:29

There is no ’system’. With 6 horses running, for every winner there are 5 losers. So the same for those who bet (assuming equal number of person bet on each of the horse). The person who won 5 times in a row is only known after the 5th race in which there is 1 winner and 7776 ‘losers’. If you atart with about 61 million people and do the same thing, you can get 1 person who won 10 times in a row.But you cannot choose a person and make him win 10 times in a row.You cannot even choose a person and make him win any 1 race.

  63. cempaka
    February 6th, 2008 | 13:21

You might be able to make a person believe or perceive himself as winning every race by making bet for every horse and at the end of the race give him the winning ticket. For every winning ticket there are 5 losing tickets.

  64. bello
    February 6th, 2008 | 18:31

@63 cempaka: Thanks for explaining that, for those who didn’t watch the show.

Can someone tell the propability that a random release at rlslog get 10 smart, interesting, on topic comments in a row? I bet it’s more unlikely than winning 6 horse races in a row without “the system”.

  65. chooga
    February 8th, 2008 | 11:41

He starts with a big lie. At the beginning of the show the lying SOG said ” …. I have developed a guaranteed system for winning at the horses. This system allows me to predicted 24 hours in advance … which horse will win …”. There is no prediction. There is no guaranteed winning. There is only guaranteed loss. Buy 1 ticket for each horse and you are guranteed to get 1 winning ticket but averall you are guaranteed to lose. The SOG is playing the audience.
